To take 7 month old puppy to air bnb for 2 nights, tomorrow!

Posted on doghouse but reposting here for traffic as would love some thoughts/advice, asap!

Found a cheap dog friendly air bnb by the sea last minute, looks perfect.
Would be going tomorrow, for 2 nights.

It's about a 2 hr drive from us.
We have a Lab pup 7 months old, and DD 8 yrs old.

We are super keen as never got away in half term and havent been anywhere for AGES. No significant holidays since Covid.

But i am worried about taking a young pup (who is a bit of a chewer!) to an air b n b.

Worried about what she may do to the air bnb, how/where she'll sleep (would take crate), the journey (she's not done that long in the car) and just all the faff of packing everything last minute for pup, and us etc.

Am I over thinking (usually I am!!)
Should we just go and be spontaneous and not worry? If we didnt have pup we would go for sure.

BnB said 'furry friends welcome'

I clean air B&B's!! We accept ddogs and I would be happy if you at least cleaned up any mishaps!!
Enjoy your trip!!

han01uk · 09/06/2022 16:03

We always take our 2 with us, they love a holiday as much as we do! Change of scenery and all that. Go, it'll be fine!

AryaStarkWolf · 09/06/2022 16:05

I mean if it says it's dog friendly then great however I'm not sure dog friendly means they're happy for your dog to chew up their furniture etc so maybe bring him plenty of his own chewy stuff and keep an eye on him!

traintraveller · 09/06/2022 16:08

I would check the T&Cs as in my experience dog friendly comes with a list of rules. Usually that dogs cannot be left alone, not allowed on furniture, not allowed upstairs and sometimes confined to 1 room etc. I think I'd be on high alert for any accidents and no way would I take a puppy that chews things to someone else's house. I can't see it being very relaxing but you know your dog.

ShandaLear · 09/06/2022 16:09

I can’t believe you posted this without including a photo of said pup. YABVVVVVVVU.

PinkSyCo · 09/06/2022 16:09

As long as you stop off a couple of times for a pee break on the way, and are not planning on leaving her alone for too long once there, I can’t see a problem. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Leypt1 · 09/06/2022 16:09

The packing etc. will be over with soon! Knowing my dog the question I'd be asking is - would he enjoy it once we got there? Or would he be stressed, which would make us stressed? Is there enough for us to do together once we got there?

Only you know your puppy OP and how confident they are/how easily they settle into new situations. If you think they'll have fun, then go ahead and enjoy your holiday!!

Oh I am always armed with a mountain of all sorts of dried animal parts that she loves to chew on!
I think we'll just have to keep a very close eye on her as we wont have the facility to close off areas like we do at home, and it wont be puppy proofed in the same way.

AgathaBrazen · 09/06/2022 16:19

It's fine. We took our dog when she was 5 months. We took her crate and kept an eye on her. All was fine.

motogirl · 09/06/2022 16:29

I've always taken my ddog but he's not a chewer (even as a pup) and loves hotels (pubs with rooms are his favourite as they let dogs in the pub for breakfast in my experience as well as in the evening!)

Maraa · 09/06/2022 16:30

We took our puppy to an air bnb when he was little! I too worried but it was fine, he loved it and we all had a great time! Just be organised, plenty of chew toys or distractions, lots of toys out. Some brain puzzler treat games too. Our pup was fine in the crate over night.

liveforsummer · 09/06/2022 16:32

We took ours camping at 6 months and it was a total success. Mine isn't a chewer though, you'll have to be prepared to be very vigilant at all times they are out the crate otherwise go for it

mumto2teenagers · 09/06/2022 16:36

If he is crate trained he will be fine.

We found that the first holiday we took our puppy on, he was so busy when we were out exploring new places that he was really tired when we got back to the accommodation.

At this time of year I would check that there are some dog friendly beaches in the area though.

Mindymomo · 09/06/2022 16:38

We took our dog away to a cottage when he was 1 year old, he was crate trained, but he absolutely hated the crate in a different house, so we had to have him in with us and he slept on the floor, but other than that he loved it and he didn’t do any damage in cottage. I take a sheet to put on bed, as he tends to jump on bed after being in the garden to say hello.

Saucery · 09/06/2022 16:42

We took our Lab away at 6 months for 4 nights. Crate trained, although someone was sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs in the same room as her. She wasn’t left unsupervised to have chance to chew things and the only breakage was from her enthusiastic waggy Lab tail knocking a cup off a table (we told them about it and they didn’t charge us).
I’d say go for it and see how she does. We regularly have cottage / Air BnB breaks and it’s always fine. You’ll soon get a little Doggy Travel Bag together you can just check and pick up if you go often.

Saucery · 09/06/2022 16:57

Also, is there somewhere you can stop off halfway? We build a break of about 45 mins - an hour into our 2 hour journeys for her to have a bit of a walk, sniff and wee break. She was a terrible traveller when she was younger though, so that’s a habit we got into.

Hahahahaaaa! Here she is, passed out on the kitchen floor after her walk, hopefully that's how she'll be for the majority of the time in the air bnb!

Just be aware that some beaches are No Dogs Allowed from May to September. They are near me anyhow. You might need to research the beaches nearby.

Saucery · 09/06/2022 17:05

Oh look at her! How could she ever be any bother at all? Grin

N'awwwwwwwwwwww <3

squareframe · 09/06/2022 17:33

You might find she will be so knackered from being outdoors most of the day she won't have the energy for chewing 😂

Yamyam13 · 09/06/2022 18:39

Thanks to all for the suggestions and moral support/encouragement!

Turns out genius me misunderstood Air BnB and it's only available for one night which makes it pretty expensive for less than 24 hours.
So we are going to go for the day instead and get up super early.

BUT thank you as I feel so much more confident for going away now, which we are doing in the Summer.
