Animal cruelty urgent

Namechangestimes10 · 07/06/2022 16:41

Posted for traffic, sorry in advance!

just saw a man kicking and hitting his dog with a stick. I’m with my 2 young children so couldnt confort him. Took pictures he saw me and then started shouting obscenities so he seemed quite volatile. I don’t know his name but I’ve got pics of him and his dog.

who can I call how can I report this?

ive been on hold to 101 for 30 mins in this time hes long gone. Also called council (off my work phone simultaneously tsk tsk naught me lol) but they said without a name and address they can’t do anything.

can I report this or is he going to get away with it … hate animal cruelty

Awful, what about RSPCA?

TigerCrumpet · 07/06/2022 16:43

You report it to the police, give them the photos, they investigate and decide what to do next.

SeriousAlligator · 07/06/2022 16:44

Very little without his identity op, do you know whereabouts he may live due to location/direction etc? could you bump into him again? I'd hate to have seen this.

He must be local to the park as he walked through it one way and then walked back the other way, so he must live close but that’s all I know and his pics and the dog breed (v common one)

Yeah I’m still on hold I didn’t get pics of the incident itself though… would that matter?

This is about the only time I'd post something on FB

poppyflower1803 · 07/06/2022 16:49

Definitely still pass the pics over, I believe you can report an incident online? I have done before and I think there is the option for attachments. The police can log it and build a profile, if anymore reports of something like this it could help build a case so definitely worth doing!

MattoMatto · 07/06/2022 16:49

If there is a chance a car could catch up with him, I’d call 999. I did this when I saw a man seriously verbally abusing a much older man he got into a car with. Looked like elder abuse. Was asked for the direction they went off in, numberplate, description, etc., and was told they’d get a patrol to see if they could locate them. I’d have done the same if it was an animal being mistreated.

^hit send too soon, afraid of fall out because it will be very apparent I took the pics and he was really quite aggressive shouting at me

OP posts:
Moosake · 07/06/2022 17:06

Don't put it on the neighborhood group. Go to the rspca or the police

AskingforaBaskin · 07/06/2022 17:24

I wouldn't put yourself in any danger atvthe end of the day you and your kids live there.

Report to the police and RSPCA but don't have any expectations of anything at all being done

DamageInc · 07/06/2022 17:31

I could have written this saturday night...

Driving home I see a woman smacking a beautiful springer with an extremely heavy walking stick. She hit it so hard around the head and then continued the assault on the dogs side. DH pulled up and dove out of the car, she claimed she was controlling it as it was 'aggressive'. Told her that didn't come as a shock if thats how she treated it. She marched off, basically not at all bothered by the whole encounter.

I realised at that point I had the entire thing on my dash cam. Came home and downloaded the very clear footage and sent it to local Police. Within an hour I'd had a reply, basically saying 'not interested, send it to the RSPCA'. Sunday morning I did just that. I'm still waiting for any form of acknowledgement.

So don't get your hopes up because it seems it's perfectly fine to abuse an animal in public and none of the organisations there to protect actually give a shit.

How awful!

i finally got through to the police and they basically said don’t bother we aren’t going to pursue this… heartbreaking

the poor animal, and it was still wagging its tail at its owner, poor little thing. If he’ll do that when people can see, what’s he like behind closed doors

OP posts:
JogOnJimmy · 07/06/2022 21:46

Then you mustn’t put yourself in danger I agree
absolutely awful though

FlissyPaps · 07/06/2022 22:01

That must have been awful to witness 💐

Definitely the police! Give them all evidence you have. Photos, descriptions, time of day, which direction he was waking in, what type/description of dog.

Im sure for the RSPCA you need to have an address of the person you’re reporting.

DO NOT post on any Facebook groups. This could backfire if you report to the police and there is an investigation.

(I once posted something similar on a local Facebook group re: animal cruelty. And the amount of awful comments I received was crazy. People accusing me of “moaning” and “having nothing better to do with my life” when all I wanted was safety for the animal in question).

Keep at it with 101. Resources are stretched right now but you’re doing the right thing.

Poor dog😪💔

Ihatethenewlook · 07/06/2022 22:04

The police won’t give a shiny shite. Even if it was caught on cctv they’re too busy to investigate crimes like this, they need at least a name and hopefully an address to go on. This would be all over social media by now if it were me. Depending on the area there’s still a good chance no one will come forward with a name

treesurgeonsarefemaletoo · 07/06/2022 22:05

I would post on social media, someone will identify him.

treesurgeonsarefemaletoo · 07/06/2022 22:06

It’s not true that it will affect a police investigation. I have no idea where this comes from. You can take it down after identifying him.

I wanted to say this but couldn’t be bothered for the argument. A huge percentage of rspca prosecutions come from awareness from social media posts (just look at the recent cat kicking footballers). It’s not a sensitive case like a sexual crime or something involving a minor where social media posts are discouraged or even illegal.

Dunnoburt · 07/06/2022 22:12

Was it well fed? Etc. speaking from experience, police and RSPCA won't give a shit, sad as it is....

treesurgeonsarefemaletoo · 07/06/2022 22:12

I can be tonight. It’s absolute nonsense. It would affect a trial but that’s totally different.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 07/06/2022 22:16

You can post anonymously on social media groups, or set up a throwaway account.

The police and RSPCA can't do anything without any proof or ID - otherwise it's just a wild goose chase and for all they know, you could have made up a story about this man to get him into trouble.

AnotherForumUser · 07/06/2022 22:18

If the police etc won't do anything and you are worried about reprisals with social media email your pics to the local newspaper. See if they will publish. It may prod the police into action.

DamageInc · 07/06/2022 22:56

After posting a comment publicly on our local RSPCA Facebook wall (not the video) it finally elicited a response from them.

call the cruelty hotline.

that’s all, nothing more, no thanks for reporting this, no mention of the video. Just call this number.

I’d always heard the RSPCA were a shit show but now I believe it.
