To think that £17k for a patio is quite a lot?

It’s about 26m2, we want it done in porcelain. Quote excludes VAT. Is this this going rate for a patio atm or aibu this seems a lot? We’re in west Yorkshire. Previous patio has been dug up and removed so just rubble left atm. Thanks for any advice!

I live in a council house and got my old patio relaid and extended. Nothing special, only normal grey pavers. Including the skips, crush run, slabs, etc and minimal Labour ( my teen sons helped) it came to 2.4K. That was last year and for a L shaped patio that is 6x4 m with an extra 3x3 bit. The skips were £600 on their own!

We've just been quoted £3000 for the groundwork, labour and materials for 25sq metres, excluding tiles, which will be £800-£1000 on top of this. North East England, fairly nice area

4.5k for Indian sandstone, retaining wall and render to the wall. We are north east near Durham on a newish build estate

That’s really quite rude, you can give your head a wobble.

It’s also (a) not dirty, (b) gorgeous and (c) dirt is irrelevant cos it’s a patio in a garden, where dirt is sort of part of the DNA. Expect you’re one of those who hoovers your astroturf.

Well @BlueKaftan had already been rude to the op by suggesting that porcelain wasn't a good patio to get because it would look dirty. And yet then posted a picture of their own red patio which is very obviously dirty too, it's a tad hypocritical. A patio is going to get dirty, it's outside. Its ops choice to get porcelain, not hers. But if you're going to say something else will be dirty and your option is better, I'd expect a pristine patio, not a very dirty one.

Just gone through this process with DS who bought a house last year.
Landscapers seem to have work booked months ahead so most won't even quote.
Quotes for Indian sanstone varied from £2.5k to £6k but a smaller area than yours.
The biggest part of the cost by far is the ground preparation. You can cut the cost slightly by choosing cheaper slabs but it's marginal.
Use Mybuilder for more quotes, I have had a lot of success with them.
Make sure you ask for exactly the same from each company so you are comparing like with like.
