So, in case you haven't heard, there's a confidence vote tonight for Boris Johnson.

There need to be at least 180 votes of no confidence to force him to stand down.

So far, Conservative MPs have shown surprisingly little backbone and tolerated outrage after outrage - and, of course, that means we have.

It has to stop.

I'm a Labour supporter. In theory, having Johnson stay on, dragging an increasingly fractured Party further and further down, is great.

More chance of a Labour government every day he's there.

But - here's the thing - I can't stand it any more. I can't bear what he's doing to us.

He needs to go.

Let's list what Johnson has led us to - actually, no, here is a letter from a Conservative MP that spells out just what Johnson is responsible for, and why he must go, now:

twitter.com/Jesse_Norman/status/1533699235417403393?s=20&t=9WUHqmHsvNjarF699i8wFw

If you have a Conservative MP, email them, today. Cut and Paste this letter if you are too busy to write much - the letter says it all, eloquently.

Your Conservative MP needs your help to show a little backbone - give them that help.

Honestly.

It's time.

No more.

Mine is Nadine Dorries so there's no point!

She'll be continuing to stand by her man as usual.

The image of her dressed in rhinestone, with big country hair and crooning into a microphone in a dusty interior state in the US is now firmly planted in my head.

DowningStreetParty · 06/06/2022 15:23

SafeMove you could C&P from Jesse Norman MP’s letter today: www.herefordtimes.com/news/20188865.full-herefordshire-mps-explosive-letter-boris-johnson/

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/06/2022 15:24

Sent mine this morning. Doubt he’ll listen but he might vote against Johnson if he thinks it’s in his own interest.

Etinoxaurus · 06/06/2022 15:29

SafeMove · 06/06/2022 15:19

Has anyone got the copy and paste as I really need to write a work report?

I am with you OP - I wish we had a functional tory government, rather than the 'Tories are scum' partisan Labour supporter I have been previously. I would just like the electorate to be respected more then anything instead of treated with contempt (I can even admit that Rory Stewart would have been a great PM!).

Robbie Moore is my MP. He is as flippy floppy as Johnson but I will certainly give it a go!

Anyone got a c&p?
my mps labour thank God, but would share on sm

Chanel05 · 06/06/2022 15:32

I highly suspect that all emails will be filed for a while to see what happens and then you'll receive an email/letter in due course advising that your views have been noted!

DowningStreetParty · 06/06/2022 15:23

SafeMove you could C&P from Jesse Norman MP’s letter today: www.herefordtimes.com/news/20188865.full-herefordshire-mps-explosive-letter-boris-johnson/

Done. Thanks ever so much!

SafeMove · 06/06/2022 15:35

@Etinoxaurus Feel free to C&P

'Please vote no confidence in Johnson' in the subject line and the following in email body:

Dear Mr XXXX,
As your constituent I would like you to vote in the interests of your constituents. I will quote the letter of one of your colleagues, Jesse Norman, for my reasoning as it is coherent, true and eloquent. Please see below.

"Dear Boris,
As you know, I have supported you throughout your career in politics: for Mayor of London in 2007-8 and 2012 and for Leader in 2016 and 2019.
As Prime Minister you have been dealt a very difficult hand with Covid and Ukraine, and you deserve great credit for much of the way in which the Government has handled these twin crises. Your recent visit to Kyiv was a conspicuous act of leadership. When I stepped down from the Treasury last September, you raised the topic of the next reshuffle, and we discussed the potential for me to run a department of state.
I have always been deeply committed to public service. But recent events have served to clarify the position this country is in under your leadership, beyond any doubt; and I am afraid I can see no circumstance in which I could serve in a government led by you.
First, as Sue Gray's report underlines, you have presided over a culture of casual law-breaking at 10 Downing Street in relation to Covid. To describe yourself as "vindicated" by the report is grotesque.
Secondly, both in the Queen's Speech and elsewhere, your current policy priorities are deeply questionable. Breach of the Northern Ireland Protocol would be economically very damaging, politically foolhardy, and almost certainly illegal.
You are the leader of the Conservative and Unionist party, yet you are putting the Union itself gravely at risk.
The Rwanda policy is ugly, likely to be counterproductive and of doubtful legality. Privatisation of Channel 4 is an unnecessary and provocative attempt to address a political non-issue during a time of crisis, at significant cost to the independent UK film and TV industry.
No genuinely Conservative government should have supported the recent ban on noisy protest - least of all when basic human freedoms are facing the threat of extinction in Ukraine.
Thirdly, under you the Government seems to lack a sense of mission. It has a large majority, but no long-term plan. There is no sign, for example, that it has even begun to get to grips with the need for greater security and resilience in a range of policy areas.
Rather, you are simply seeking to campaign, to keep changing the subject and to create political and cultural dividing lines mainly for your advantage, at a time when the economy is struggling, inflation is soaring and growth is anaemic at best.
Sensible planning has been replaced by empty rhetoric. As a former Energy Minister I can tell you that there is, for example, zero chance that this or any government will be able to build a nuclear power station a year at any point in the next decade.
Worse still: you are apparently trying to import elements of a presidential system of government that is entirely foreign to our constitution and law.
But you are not a president, and you have no mandate other that as an MP, and from the confidence of your colleagues. Attempts to centralise powers in 10 Downing Street are not merely yet another ill-advised political distraction, but almost certain to compound and accelerate the problems listed above. In my judgement, all these things are at odds with a decent, proper conservatism: with effective teamwork, careful reform, a sense of integrity, respect for the rule of law and a long-term focus on the public good.
Neither the Conservative party nor this country can afford to squander the next two years adrift and distracted by endless debate about you and your leadership.
For you to prolong this charade by remaining in office not only insults the electorate, and the tens of thousands of people who support, volunteer, represent, and campaign for our party; it makes a decisive change of government at the next election much more likely. This is potentially catastrophic for the country.
For these reasons, and with great sadness, I am withdrawing my support for you as leader, and I have notified this to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee.
I leave it to our colleagues to decide where they stand in relation to these concerns. For the avoidance of doubt, however, this is not a leadership bid.
As ever, Jesse"

Yes!!

Please do email, even if your MP is Dorries or other Boris stooge.

It is JUST possible that a weight of emails might make them think their self interest is best served by pushing him out. Slim chance I grant you but might make a difference, if not for the vote today then at least over the coming months.

thecatfromjapan

but if Tory’s get another leader and they hypothetically got another term due to that change, how would you feel then?

Honestly, I think it's worth risking that to get Johnson replaced.

He's just so, so damaging.

I would say to Labour supporters who are calculating it's better to keep Johnson in place, please read that Letter I posted earlier. It outlines just what we are losing with Johnson in charge.

SafeMove · 06/06/2022 15:39

Also don't forget to put your home address in your emails to prove you are their constituent, otherwise they will just ignore you.

thecatfromjapan · 06/06/2022 15:39

For those of you asking for a C and P letter:

I'm out right now but will try and write something and post it here as soon as I'm home.

balalake · 06/06/2022 15:40

My MP is sadly deluded and will support Mr Johnson.

I don't want any Conservative government, but one led by someone other than Mr Johnson will be an improvement. As I have mentioned before, I have opposed the death penalty all my life, but if I supported it, I would be OK with Mr Johnson being hung.

bellabasset · 06/06/2022 15:40

My MP - Cornwall - is supporting Boris, despite a large number of voters saying they'll no longer vote Tory

CornishPorsche · 06/06/2022 15:41

Yep, emailed my incompetent Tory MP.

She's already tweeted that she's standing by Johnson.

I don't expect her to bother to reply to me.

Don't bother with a C&P email just write a couple of lines about asking your MP to do the right thing thing and vote with their constituents and the weight of public feeling, not with party lines.

You can contact any MP here - www.writetothem.com/

HavfrueDenizKisi · 06/06/2022 15:42

Thankfully mine sent a letter of no confidence in a week or two ago.

I'm hoping for a miracle and Johnson gets kicked out.

DowningStreetParty · 06/06/2022 15:42

You’re welcome.
I’m so relieved that so many of us are contacting our MPs. Whatever happens, at least more MPs will know that a huge swathe of public opinion wants them to step up tonight.

thecatfromjapan · 06/06/2022 15:42

For starters:

Dear ....

I am writing to urge you to vote 'no confidence' this evening.

I have been your constituent X years (& if you normally vote Conservative, tell them!!) and I am writing to tell you, in the strongest terms, I will not vote for you whilst Boris Johnson is your Leader.

And then just give a list of what has outraged you most about his Premiership.

Your name + email.

Short, sweet, to the point.

I emailed my MP last Monday, he hasn't replied. He bites for/with Boris on everything and will also be afraid of loosing his job so won't hold my breath that he'll suddenly acquire some morals and do the right thing.

I see your Nadine Dorries and raise you a Jacob Rees Mogg! 🙄

Did you see Mad Nad on Sky News at lunchtime? She practically admitted that the party does what the party donors want.

I reckon she's stopped taking her meds or something.

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2022 15:48

Dorries seems to be particularly crazy today. I don’t know who she thinks she’s helping with all this ranting.

WaitroseWoman · 06/06/2022 15:48

Here is the Led By Donkeys video about Boris. It has already has one million views:
