To not be bothered about the jubilee weekend?

lazybutch · 01/06/2022 01:24

Don't get me wrong I love our Queen and all she has does and I think 70 years is amazing.
But I'm working Friday and Sunday for my usual minimum wage.. so it's really just another weekend other than a hog roast on Saturday night.
Is anyone else really not feeling that bothered about the jubilee weekend?

XenoBitch · 01/06/2022 01:28

It is not on my radar at all. Just normal days to me.

MrsEricBana · 01/06/2022 01:28

Me neither. I definitely admire the Queen herself but otherwise not bothered about celebrating though I can see it's a good excuse for communities to get together.

Ladywiddio · 01/06/2022 01:37

Not interested in the slightest.

Vikinga · 01/06/2022 01:43

I just like that we're having a street party

Scienceteacher1986 · 01/06/2022 06:48

It's my birthday weekend so I am really excited and looking forward to the extra days with my kids but I'm not doing anything jubilee related, I'll probably look at some pictures of the queen celebrations online at some point

Mashinga · 01/06/2022 06:50

Not bothered. No events to attend here. Just another day except family are able to come for lunch on Friday because we’re all off.

FourChimneys · 01/06/2022 07:00

Not bothered at all. I'm sure the Queen doesn't need me to celebrate her milestones any more than I need her to celebrate mine.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 01/06/2022 07:01

YABU to start another thread about it.

RaisedbyFerrets · 01/06/2022 07:02

Im just chuffed I will be able to watch more tennis.
Hurrah!
Do people really go out to party in the street ?
😬

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 01/06/2022 07:04

I booked two days annual leave from my supermarket job because I didn't want to miss out on our village BBQ and barn dance. I'm also looking forward to watching the TV coverage of the concert on Saturday.

Momicrone · 01/06/2022 07:21

I'm not interested in the Royals and am working some of it but I love a local event

Yerroblemom1923 · 01/06/2022 07:28

She's a good egg but I'm working thurs and fri so not really in my radar. No bunting at our house.

Ragwort · 01/06/2022 07:32

Genuine question, why do you need to start a thread about it? Especially when there are already countless threads about the Jubilee Bank Holiday.

I don't acknowledge Halloween, but wouldn't start a thread about it.

But to answer your question, yes, I am looking forward to it, by fortunate coincidence by usual days off are Thursday and Friday (I will work Saturday), our small town has arranged a lot of (free) community events, I am baking cakes for an old folks tea party and will be enjoying watching events on tv plus joining in a special church service and concert, and small street party. Smile.

MagicTurtle · 01/06/2022 07:34

There's a small fete on the village green (cakes and sausages and a bouncy castle) but they do that every year anyway. Nice to have the extra day off work though.

WildFlowerBees · 01/06/2022 07:36

Christ not another thread on the sodding jubilee. Just live and let live, lots of people will be using this time to simply enjoy being with people who matter to them. Who cares if you're bothered or not!

OverEggedPudding · 01/06/2022 07:36

Same here. I am working 3 out of the 4 days. I think a BH should mean a BH for everyone except emergency services (who should get paid extra). It's shite to work and everyone is off.

As for Jubilee. Thanks for the days off, but I give no sh!ts about a bunch of massively entitled people who the credit crunch is not affecting.

UrsulaPandress · 01/06/2022 07:37

So?

Mindymomo · 01/06/2022 07:40

It feels like we should be doing something, but in my village there is only a couple of events organised, one on the small village green and another whereby an estate agent is giving out drinks. I’ve only seen one road saying they are having a street party. We are doing walks, lunches out and cinema booked. We will also be watching tennis, my adult son loves it, so is pleased he’s off to watch some. My other son is doing overtime as most people have booked the whole week off.

SpindleSheWrote · 01/06/2022 07:45

I’m no longer an admirer of the queen post Andrew; and I won’t be looking to ‘celebrate’ this hereditary monarchy, no.

I will be unable to avoid the coverage of it all, I expect. Might be fun to see if Meghan and Harry avoid Andrew or William or Camilla and all that malarkey I suppose - the new ‘positioning wars’. I’m not totally devoid of a sense of the absurd.

oopsfellover · 01/06/2022 07:46

Am quite interested in it as a momentous historical occasion, but not bothered about actually celebrating it and fairly relieved there’s no party on our road.

KangarooKenny · 01/06/2022 07:49

I think it’s great for those that are having street parties, like others have done in the past, and I admire the queen, but other than that I’m not interested.

Darbs76 · 01/06/2022 07:53

I’m taking my daughter up to london Saturday to enjoy the buzz of london on these occasions as it’s fabulous. I’ve been up in town for the golden jubilee and Kate & Wills wedding, all such a fab atmosphere. I want my daughter to remember this special occasion which will be in history books for a long time. But if you don’t want to participate in anyway then you don’t have to, no big deal. Sure you’re not the only one

JustDanceAddict · 01/06/2022 07:54

Not really doing much.
Seeing friends/family a bit, no specific jubilee stuff. Not massively on my radar as ds is doing his A levels and my mind has been in that more. I wish the Queen all the best - it’s a great achievement and historical moment.

PriamFarrl · 01/06/2022 07:58

If you are working the Friday are you having a day off in lieu?

As for the rest of it, if you aren’t interested then don’t bother.
Why are there so many threads about people carrying on like they are being forced to wave flags and watch the coverage. It’s easy to ignore.

LindaEllen · 01/06/2022 08:08

I really love the Queen, and I'm happy that we have 4 days off work, but I'm in a brass band which means we're super busy with concerts and parties over the weekend.. and we're performing so we can't relax and enjoy them!
