To let my son try a fizzy drink?

We were just messing about having a laugh and he had a mouthful of my fizzy drink. He just wanted to try it and I thought why not. His reaction was hilarious and we had a laugh. He's 5 and a half for context. He's not going to be having it again until he's older obviously but all of a sudden I feel bad about ting him try it 🙈 He'll no doubt tell his dad he drinks Coke Zero now and I'll get a judgmental earful off him 😬😳

I'm aware this is a very minor matter, much worse things going on in the world etc
Just interested to know what others think!

And not even the zero sugar kind.

Sadly true. Just shy of a third of the kids in my child's primary school are obese.

I sincerely doubt that. And how do you know? Are you weighing and measuring them?

I'm prepared to believe a third are overweight. Not obese though.

NerrSnerr · 31/05/2022 21:45

@steff13 full fat coke is just what some people say meaning full sugar coke. You must have heard it before?

My toddler tried diet lemonade once. Jsut a tiny sip doesn't hurt. He wasn't keen and jsut went back to water/squash/milk. I didn't see any harm in it!

You've weighed them all yourself, have you?

Most 5 year olds drink fizzy drinks quite regularly. It's perfectly healthy in moderation.

TrufflesForBreakfast · 01/06/2022 06:57

Some of my most treasured memories are of playing in pub beer gardens with a bag of crisps and a lemonade (it was usually flat though, so perhaps it wouldn't count 😄)

I would also drain all the beery dregs out of the parents' glasses before going home 😷

Ridiculous

AtomicBlondeRose · 01/06/2022 07:09

I actually agree that if you let them try it really early they think fizzy drinks are “spicy” and don’t like them!

If you think that’s bad, my 10yo DS is obsessed with asking to be allowed to try sips of wine - he’s been allowed maybe twice (and I mean a sip) and I sometimes let him smell it 😂 - this extensive experience has meant he swans around the place professing that he “prefers Chardonnay to Sauvignon blanc” like some little Oz Clarke.

MoodyTwo · 01/06/2022 07:37

Your only downfall was that it was coke and not Pepsi ... I mean at least give them the good stuff 😂

Ringmaster27 · 01/06/2022 07:39

Mine are 7, 5 and 2, and all had a sip of Coke Zero at Nando’s the other week. None of them liked it - said it made their tongue itchy from the bubbles 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
Not like they are going to be chugging it by the pint.

I wouldn’t have done that personally

Why? It's a taste of lemonade, not crack!!

WoofWoofWoofMudToys · 10/01/2023 20:15

This bloody 'other threads you might like is a sodding zombie nightmare!!

@ MNHQ if youre going to persist with this bad dream, could you have a zombie back ground at least.

Well my 2 year old drank my mcdonalds diet coke that was on the table whilst I was doing the dishes the other day. Parenting fail to the max 🤣

When my god son was little, we were at a restaurant, I went into my handbag for something and when I looked up the little delight was chugging down my smirnoff ice 😳 he was 5 😅

To be fair Coke Zero is essentially child cruelty. Surely you should go full fat - like with milk?

I agree.

My DDad once accidentally gave DS (3) a sip of beer 😬 We were at a restaurant and he had DS on his knee. He had a beer and DS had been given a glass of water in an identical pint glass. DDad was helping DS with his water and, on one occasion, accidentally picked up the wrong glass. DS complained and spat it out. He survived.
