As someone from the US I think the uk has the perfect mix of all different kinds of weather

im not sure if it’s just me but I recently visited the uk and I was amazed at how the weather is just a mix of everything. It actually made me think that England is one of the best climates to live in, it obviously rains a lot and is cold but at the same time it’s very sunny a lot of the time and quite humid in my opinion. To me it’s not too hot or too cold it was just the right amount of everything. Does anyone else who lives/visited there think this too or am I insane???

Well we have certainly had all kinds of weather today. Welcome to the British summer.

BackToTheTop · 31/05/2022 17:42

I agree completely, I love the complete difference and changes in seasons

zafferana · 31/05/2022 17:42

Yeah, you're right OP. The winters can be rather rubbish - dark and grey and damp for months on end. Spring, summer and autumn are pretty good though.

MintyCedricRidesAgain · 31/05/2022 17:43

Haha! I know what you mean...I love the fact we have a mixture.

Ideally I'd like a little more warm and sunny, less humid and some proper snow of a winter (and a huge late night thunderstorm a couple of times a week to freshen everything up and just because I love them!).

Meraas · 31/05/2022 17:43

I like having seasons but it is annoying how dependent we are on nice weather.

U2HasTheEdge · 31/05/2022 17:45

We are having a storm right now! In May I would like sun and some warmth!

DressingPafe · 31/05/2022 17:48

I agree. There is something I like about every season. My worst nightmare would be to live somewhere that was always more or less the same.

There is one thing I’d change though, and that’s how light it stays till late in the summer. I went to Japan and the latest it stays light there is 7pm. I loved it. It meant that there was time for the heat to cool down before bed. You could enjoy twinkly lights in warm weather! I have garden lights but never use them as I’m always in bed before it gets dark in summer! So that I would change given the choice.

worraliberty · 31/05/2022 17:53

I agree although I miss the crisp, frosty, sunny Autumn mornings we used to get here in the South East. We rarely get them now.

Crunchymum · 31/05/2022 17:54

Come for a visit in mid January. See what you think then! 😂

CruCru · 31/05/2022 17:58

Yes I know what you mean. My Dad used to live in Washington DC and for quite a lot of the year it wasn't actually sensible to spend much time outside. UK weather is not particularly extreme.

BritWifeInUSA · 31/05/2022 17:58

i guess it depends what part of the US you live in. Where we live we also have 4 seasons, a good mix of all weathers. Given the vastness of the US I find this an odd comment to make. We have more variety of weather than the UK. I couldn’t live in Florida but I couldn’t live in Alaska either. Fortunately large parts of the country are a happy medium between these extremes.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2022 17:59

YANBU. I love that we have different seasons. Yes, January and February can be shit, but it's like the mood of the whole country changes when the sun comes out. I don't think I'd appreciate it as much if I lived somewhere that was sunny all the time.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2022 18:00

Yanbu

i love our weather. Clearly defined seasons. Nothing too extreme. Perfect.

Bsaunders4231 · 31/05/2022 18:00

i live in Texas!! It’s one of the hottest states all year round so I just loved the weather in the uk because it was just perfect.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 31/05/2022 18:01

YANBU I love our temperate climate.

MangoLipstick · 31/05/2022 18:01

I agree with you op, although our winters tend to be grey and dull (& feel long)
We get the odd lovely frosty , crisp sunny day which is lovely.

I really like how we have definite seasons in the UK. Spring being my favourite.

I live up north now and we get more rain here then when we lived down south, but it’s greener up here too because if it. It was always warmer down south which I liked, but the humidity was too much sometimes, especially in London.

Antarcticant · 31/05/2022 18:07

I like the different seasons but I don't like the unreliability of the weather in summer. Your plans can be completely ruined if it decides to tip down with rain or blow a gale in the middle of July.

There was a brilliant anecdote on a thread a couple of months ago from a Mumsnetter who'd travelled to Italy on business - her continental colleagues found it hilarious that she made a point of carrying a waterproof coat on a lovely sunny day - but most of us Brits rarely discount the possibility of 'rain later'!

CoralBells · 31/05/2022 18:11

Yes it's not bad at all. We had a lovely sunny spring. (SE) Gorgeous. I was having to hose the garden as we didn't have any rain for weeks. It's rainy at the moment. Winters aren't too cold. Last summer wasn't too hot but previous summers 2018 onwards had been too hot and humid in parts for my liking. But at least it doesn't last too long. Not bad really.

Gherkingreen · 31/05/2022 18:11

@Bsaunders4231 I'm from the UK but lived in TX for a few years and I completely agree!
I was so excited about the thought of all that lovely sun but the weather in TX was just so BIG! Big sun, big hail, big tornadoes, big thunder and lightning, big ice storms😁.
I really missed the dampness of UK weather, I swear my skin is better for a bit of drizzle

TiredButAlive · 31/05/2022 18:16

Yes I love it. Never too extreme and if you don't like the weather when you wake up it will probably be different by mid afternoon! The east of England is better if you like more sunshine though. Some bits of the west are a little damp!!

CustardySergeant · 31/05/2022 18:16

"I love our weather. Clearly defined seasons. Nothing too extreme. Perfect."

I agree. That's why I love it too. Also, it's not "always raining" as some people abroad seem to think. However it does rain just enough to keep our countryside green and beautiful. I'd rather that than live somewhere hotter and dryer with brown arid landscapes.

ChompChamp · 31/05/2022 18:25

I disagree.

I’m from the UK and was in a LDR with an American for a period of time. They came to stay with me for 6 months, which included the whole summer. I was working Mon - Fri.

We did not have one, single nice sunny weekend-day during the whole 6 months (even dry/overcast days were rare). Plenty of sunny weekdays, of course.

Obviously it’s not like that every year and we had bad luck, but the weather being so unreliable/changeable can be a real drag.

I will say that I’m good with the range of temperatures, I just wish we had more consistent summers.

SometimesMaybe · 31/05/2022 18:27

I live in Scotland. The weather here is pish. 12 degrees today and it’s the last day of May.
The weather in the south of England is usually 3/4/5 degrees warmer than here and that would make a such a difference in terms of heat and feeling like we don’t just have Autumn for 10 months of the year.

artisanbread · 31/05/2022 18:31

We have very safe weather - you are unlikely to be physically harmed by weather-related incidents in the UK. It's also good for growing things. It would be nice to have a bit more reliable sunshine though!

pilates · 31/05/2022 18:33

I agree
