Creme Caramel etiquette

Paprikapommes · 31/05/2022 13:57

Weekly food delivery substitutes went a bit retro and we've got a pack of creme caramels

AIBU to be outraged that DH does not serve them on a dish as any civilised person would do?! Shock

He spent his whole childhood ignoring the little silver tab on the bottom. Not only that, he also drinks the sauce before eating it out of the pot with a spoon. Animal!

wrong!

you eat these standing by the fridge, spoon in hand, peel the lids off. Throw cartons in the bin. Then pretend they were never there.

I think I've found my spirit animal.

LakeTiticaca · 31/05/2022 15:22

LTB.......ASAP

THIS.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2022 15:25

@Anyfeckinusername has it and the rest of you are heathens.

Plates are for when you make your own and ponce at other people. When you eat them for yourself, the only way is spoony.

I am (not really) very sorry to say this....

I slurp the little bit of sauce off the top, and spoon it out, making very sure it comes out with the grooves still intact and becoming enraged if any sticks to the side of the pot. Followed by sucking it through my teeth off the spoon. Then drink the rest of the bastard down.

Satisfying.... 😌

@KeyboardCat I think you’re me! Every detail is how I usually eat a creme caramel, even the rage when a bit clings to the grooves.

Occasionally I will bother getting a little bowl and tipping it upside down (pulling the silver tab does amuse me), but we don’t have a dishwasher so I try to avoid extra dishes!

comfortablyfrumpy · 31/05/2022 15:50

LTB definitely.

It’s the sweet equivalent of an oyster. You tip them into your mouth, suck and swallow! 😉

Your husband is eating them the correct way. You sound a bit lardy dar with your plate.

WiddlinDiddlin · 31/05/2022 16:28

ValBiro · 31/05/2022 15:09

Off track but have you tried the posh Bonne maman ones? They are so good! No plate required for eating of either, unless you are going to lick the plate clean you will undoubtedly lose most of that sweet sweet caramel to the plate...

... why wouldn't you lick the plate?

Of course you would lick the plate... not licking the plate is a huge waste of delicious caramel sauce!

Lesperance · 31/05/2022 16:40

Repulsive. Obviously your sex life is over.

Abra1d1 · 31/05/2022 16:45

How can people bear to make a sad, sad world even WORSE??

Clovacloud · 31/05/2022 16:49

Surely you are making them from scratch(ish) with the Green’s mix, old gu pots, and then hiding them in the fridge from your family?

Or even better, just making a giant one the size of a Christmas pudding?? 😋

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 31/05/2022 16:52

Nope. You eat them (a serving is 2, obviously) with a teaspoon out of the pot. Carefully eating round the edges so the grooves stay intact, then once you've eaten all the creme you drink the caramel. Luckily DD doesn't like them so I get them all to myself. Did used to have a cat that would fight you for one though.

I do buy the cheap ones without the release tab though. I eat them too fast to justify the dearer price...

Cherryblossoms85 · 31/05/2022 16:56

Well annoyingly, I got some recently from Sainsbury's, and the tab was gone! Very disappointing, as I hate eating them out of the pot - not because I care about it being proper, but because otherwise you always lose bits in the ridges. I just tastes better if I can start the slice from the bottom, iyswim.

My parents call them "better in a dish" because they most definitely are better in a dish.

Your DH is vvvv U

OneTC · 31/05/2022 15:02

out the pot is the way.

Tunnel down one side until you get to the juice, drink the juice, then eat the rest

I'd just like to report that I tried this and whilst it was tasty I did end up with creme caramel on my face

MushMonster · 01/06/2022 21:53

On a plate LOL
Mine disappear before ever touching that plate

underneathleaf · 01/06/2022 21:54

You can buy these in Britain?! I thought they were a French holiday treat only. Feel my parents might have told a mistruth there...

FallopianTubeTrain · 01/06/2022 21:56

TinySaltLick · 31/05/2022 15:06

Upside down, tab removed to eject quivering tower, then suck it up in one go and swallow in one motion

Spoon not required

This is how proper champions do it.

RewildingAmbridge · 01/06/2022 22:05

Why are there two ready made creme caramel threads today? It's it French bots trying to detail the current trifle focus?

Also the ready made ones are not nice

RewildingAmbridge · 01/06/2022 22:06

Derail

Giraffesandbottoms · 01/06/2022 22:08

This is giving me 90s flashbacks

Giraffesandbottoms · 01/06/2022 22:09

@Cherryblossoms85

100% correct re the ridges and the tasting better!

gigglinggirl · 01/06/2022 22:46

There is still a slot though in the Sainsbury’s ones which means you can still tip them onto a plate, despite no silver tab.
