To disturb cat or drink tea?

Basilbrushgotfat · 31/05/2022 11:14

The kitten grown cat who-was-rescued-almost-dead-and-hand-reared has curled up under a blanket and gone to sleep on my foot.

The blanket just sneezed.

My cup of tea (important first one of the day) is the other side of the room.

What do I do?

YABU - don't move, how can you consider being so evil and cruel

YANBU - you can't function without caffeine and it's now a pampered adult cat not a half-dead ball of fluff

Sorry you can't drink the tea. You're gong too have to stay there for as long as the cat deems necessary.

pigsDOfly · 31/05/2022 11:16

You really need to ask?🙀

OnlyLosersTakeTheBus · 31/05/2022 11:16

You can always microwave the tea later. Obviously the cat could just nap later - and will anyway - but will carry the pain of the vast injustice you have inflicted like a shard of glass through his bitter soul. And start shitting in your shoes to pay you back.

Disneyvillain · 31/05/2022 11:18

Ha ha I’d go for the tea but DH wouldn’t, he’s a softy. I love my cat but that first cup of tea …

BlueKaftan · 31/05/2022 11:18

Why oh why did you get yourself into this predicament? I would normally say to not disturb the sneezing cat, but you can hardly be expected to provide soothing comfort without having a cup of tea. Let this be a lesson!

violetbunny · 31/05/2022 11:19

Yabu. You are now in-cat-pacitated.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 31/05/2022 11:22

Can you text your husband to come home from work to bring you the tea? I actually thought it was illegal to move a sleeping cat. That's what my cats told me.

Chocoqueen · 31/05/2022 11:23

Ahh, I have the same dilemma at least one a day... but in my case it's a baby and coffee. Whenever I decide to disturb the baby to get the coffee I regret it because I end up with a still tired baby who wants attention (so can't drink the coffee anyway). Moral of the story, leave the cat and microwave your tea later. Or, alternatively, if there is someone else in your house, call them and get them to bring you your tea. (This may be why DH hates doesn't like working from home...)

ifonly4 · 31/05/2022 11:25

Definitely stay put. Surely you should know you're bottom of the pecking order😂

5128gap · 31/05/2022 11:26

If my cat deigned to honour my foot with the presence of any part of his body, I would rather shrivel to a dehydrated husk than fetch a drink.
I adore him and he despises me in equal measure.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 31/05/2022 11:27

Surely you know the expression Let sneezing cats lie?

Basilbrushgotfat · 31/05/2022 11:31

All very good points...Do I really need my left foot? Maybe I should amputate...

@Disneyvillain never have I seen a more apt username!

You'll need to get your DH to bring you tea.... perhaps peeled grapes too and wine if you're still there tonight 😝

Onemoresleeptogonow · 31/05/2022 12:01

You should have been more organised and had a flask..

twoshedsjackson · 31/05/2022 12:08

Although not a Muslim myself, my esteem for the Prophet (peace be upon him) rose when I was told how he once cut the sleeve of his garment, pinned down by a sleeping cat, as he wished to move.

MasterOfOne · 31/05/2022 12:15

Onemoresleeptogonow · 31/05/2022 12:01

You should have been more organised and had a flask..

This 100%

I always make sure my bladder is empty and a drink in reach if ever the cat deems my lap an acceptable place to sleep.

Sahara123 · 31/05/2022 12:20

Well this is an easy one . You cannot disturb a sleeping cat even if your leg falls off.🙄

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/05/2022 12:23

What kind of a cat parent are you to even be considering answering this question???

Know your place! You are merely staff and have no right to tea.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/05/2022 12:24

*asking, not answering.

it has been a long day.

thecurtainsofdestiny · 31/05/2022 12:28

Yabu.

Surely you know that, as a cat servant, you will always be in the wrong while His or Her Majesty will always be right.

Even I know this, and I do not have a cat.

😂 this is like my relationship with my cat! 💔

Loginmystery · 31/05/2022 12:33

I would never ever disturb my cat. He comes first at any cost

axolotlfloof · 31/05/2022 12:35

We have a "cat on the lap" rule in our house. If you are incapacitated by the cat everyone else has to do your bidding.
Even my grumpy teenager will make me a cup of tea or get my phone if I have the cat on my lap.
Can you call for help?

@LidlMissSunshine got it spot on, in the first post. Of course the cat's need for a comfortable sleeping place comes first!

CuriousCatfish · 31/05/2022 12:40

I need to hoover upstairs but the cat is fast asleep in his the spare bedroom. So until he wakes up I will have to leave it.
