To be shocked I’m going grey/white at 33!

It’s been steadily building up over the past year or two, since I had my son ironically.
I look back at photos of me before I had him and I didn’t have this.
The main issue is wiry white hairs growing up on the top of my head, sticking up everywhere and looking awful.
But as I looked closer I realised I actually had white/grey in my hair now.
I am naturally blonde so they’re not REALLY obvious, but they are to me 😣

Most of my family members didn’t go grey/white until much later so I don’t know what’s happened with me.

Early 30s is pretty normal I’d say, I’m your age and pretty much everyone I know has a few greys, some more than others. The odd few seemed to start to go grey mid-20s

Talipesmum · 30/05/2022 20:36

I’m blond ish, have had a few white hairs since I was easily early 30’s, probably my a few a bit earlier. Now I’m mid 40s I’ve got a good few at the front. It’s a bit annoying but I can’t be bothered to dye it!

Thesheerrelief · 30/05/2022 20:36

Found my first grey at 24. Have about 20% grey at 41

Namechangenye2021 · 30/05/2022 20:37

Mines really gone white/grey the last couple years - just turned 34. No DC yet :(

Msloverlover · 30/05/2022 20:37

33 isn’t actually that old to get your first grey hairs. I got mine late 20s and only really built up now (40). Lots of my friends and family were very grey by mid 30s. If you’re blond, count yourself lucky!

SoManyQuestionsHere · 30/05/2022 20:41

My (40) female report at work (33) is literally greyer right now than my grand mother (88 then, now passed) was when she died. Whereas I haven't had a single grey hair in my life. My mother (67) has a few but only a few. We're also a dark-haired family, a.k.a. "nowhere as easy to hide a few greys than it is for blonds". They stand out in us!

Horrible truth: it's all genetics! My own father was practically all white at 35. My sibling and I just seem to take after mum's side.

You can dye or you can embrace it. Not many other choices left!

Fairyliz · 30/05/2022 20:43

Just be thankful you are not me; I found my first grey hair at 17! It was hard to disguise as I was naturally very dark brown.

SparkyBlue · 30/05/2022 20:49

I've been covering my greys since my mid twenties. Quite normal I'd imagine. I'm 46 now and I've had to go quite blonde as I'm so grey now

LunaMuffinTop · 30/05/2022 20:56

Both my sister and I where born with 1 grey hair that we both still have my hair is really dark brown and I have noticed I have a few more grey hairs no DC yet but I am married and I do have 6 pets so that could explain the extra grey hairs I’m only 32 I’m not fussed about my hair at all it’s only a few grey hairs compared to what I did during lockdown when I had a Brittany Spears moment and shaved it all off I think I can deal with going grey.

MuchTooTired · 30/05/2022 21:02

I got my first grey at 22. I can remember (then) bf (now dh) plucking it out of my head in wonder whilst we were on the bus on our way out out.

I'm now 36, and my DD (4) was brushing my hair the other day and announced that she was brown hair, and mama has black and lots of silver hair 😱

I'd not really noticed just how grey I’ve gone. They’re all wiry and stick up all over the place, I look like a fecking badger. On the plus side, DD wants silver hair like me and asked how she’d go about getting it too. I told her it’ll happen naturally in time, but if she wants to speed it up she should have twins like me 😏

Greenhippoblue · 30/05/2022 21:15

Got my first grey at 15/16, now 34 and am probably 20% grey but in patches - very dark brown naturally so very obvious. Much worse round my hairline for some reason. In a constant dilemma between continuing with the dye or going au naturale as I can see the regrowth within 2 weeks.

TommyShelby · 30/05/2022 21:20

I started going white at 24 - skipped grey entirely! I’m not bothered with it really - it’s only hair and if I get really bored I’ll dye it something bonkers 😂

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 30/05/2022 21:21

I got my first grey hair around 15, definitely still at secondary school. I'm 33 now and got a fair amount in the last year - I've actually started dying my hair for the first time to cover it

What do you do to hide the regrowth between dyes as mine is round the hairline too

Ringsender2 · 30/05/2022 21:42

greying is genetic but can also be accelerated by vitamin deficiency, mainly B12. B12 is depleted by alcohol and lack of sleep (! - babies!).

If you type something along the lines of the following into a search engine, you'll find lots of info: "grey hair and b vitamin"

It also mentions B6 and other vits/minerals.

Not all greys will be reversible, but some will likely go back to their original colour - you'll get hairs changing colour half way along, which is kind of fun to see.

Sleep and nutrition are your friends.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 30/05/2022 21:44

I started going grey at 18.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 30/05/2022 21:51

My 17yo has grey hairs, in amongst the nearly-black.

I dyed mine for a few years in my 30s and then gave up. I’m 50 now and my hair is completely grey/white. Young men offer me seats on the bus, it’s grand.

LatersGators · 30/05/2022 21:54

I have started getting wispy grey hairs pretty much as soon as I turned 35. They appeared so suddenly I felt like Cinderella!

GlazedDoughnuts · 30/05/2022 21:55

I'm 33 and I have found this too. I noticed in my late 20s a few strands of pure white hair, but it was just a few mixed in with my light brown hair and not very noticeable. I was at the hairdressers a few weeks ago and I noticed under the very bright lights of the salon that I had lots of grey/white flyaway strands at the top of my head so I can only assume this is my hair beginning to lose its colour.

It's shit.

ForestFae · 30/05/2022 21:57

I started going grey at 16, my father did at 9. The joys of having jet black hair, even one or two white hairs are visible. I’ve been dying my roots since I was about 19.

woodhill · 30/05/2022 21:57

Mine went in late 20s but dps didn't go grey till late

Seemed to be worse after having dc

It is a pain

ChampionOfTheSun · 30/05/2022 21:58

I've been going grey since I was 14! I'm 28 now and a significant amount of my hair is now grey. I dye it quite regularly as I have very dark hair naturally so it is really obvious and it does age me a lot Blush

myuterusistryingtokillme · 30/05/2022 21:58

I was in my teens, so would have been delighted to get to your age 🤣

This is something I’ve noticed - those of us with very dark hair go grey earlier. Either that or it’s just more noticeable due to the contrast. Both me and my husband have jet black hair and mine started in my teens, his in his twenties.

LatersGators · 30/05/2022 22:02

It's the texture of the grey hair that baffles me. I have occasionally had a one off really wiry one over the last few years, which I have plucked and has not reappeared. The ones I am getting now are really soft and silver around the hairline, mainly around my ears
