I can’t leave the house in the morning until…

I’ve made the beds and opened the curtains, it just doesn’t feel right to leave them, also I can’t go anywhere until I’ve had a cup of tea, I could be running late for work and I’d still need a cuppa while rushing round! Partner doesn’t quite understand why but I think it’s pretty normal stuff

It's normal for me. But I expect it's what your mum did when you were little, so it's your normal?

We pick up the weirdest of habits from our parents without realising.

thebluehen · 29/05/2022 11:48

Those that are saying you don't make the bed, does that mean you do it in the evening when you get home from work or not at all?

Op - I'm like you, curtains, tea, feed pets, breakfast, make bed, make up, tidy up, make sure I have ingredients out for dinner etc before I go to work. DP doesn't do any of it so would probably say I'm unreasonable 🙄

I think I'm also more of a "get up & go" person.

If I sit with a hot drink I'll take too long & be late!

On the rare occasions I have to rush to get up without my morning coffee, I feel horrendous all day.

No point denying my obvious caffeine addiction 😂

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2022 11:58

The only curtains that get closed in my house are the bedroom ones anyway - so those are open when we are dressed.

However I wouldn't like to claim that's every day. Because we close them again when home from swim training to get dressed for work/ college. Then we both change again before I take him back swim training in the evenings. Then close them again when home to put nightwear on.

It's a waste of time tbh!

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/05/2022 12:16

I can leave the house 3 mins after I get up if needed.

I wish I had a bit more decorum though, especially as I age and look more ghoul like without 10 mins of mirror action 🧙‍♀️😱.

Although fuck the beds..

VaVaVoombangabang · 29/05/2022 12:17

Lots of the above esp the bed but have to do the cushions and tidy around the sofas (glasses plates etc) but side tables away, I really cannot leave them...also straighten the rug in the hallway...

BeggyMitchell · 29/05/2022 12:31

Can I ask about the need to open curtains?

Don't get me wrong, I do plan to open mine - (blinds in my case) but it's not the end of the world if I rush out & forget.

Tea, for example, is far more important.

Someone else would probably do it but even if not what's the issue if it doesn't happen until someone gets home?

StepAwayFromGoogling · 29/05/2022 12:36

Bloody nora. Coffee only for me. I just about get out with my knickers on let alone making beds/putting a wash on/writing a thesis before work.

BeggyMitchell · 29/05/2022 12:37

Ah,

But are your curtains open StepAwayFromGoogling? Grin

TheChosenTwo · 29/05/2022 12:43

My bare essentials would be shutters open, bed made, shower and teeth brushed.
I don’t eat breakfast, usually buy lunch out, don’t drink tea/coffee, can feed pets later, there are no cushions on my bed and no elaborate things like blankets etc so it’s a matter of shaking out the duvet and straightening up the pillows - 15 seconds if even that.

musicviking1 · 29/05/2022 12:59

I have to have a coffee, I wouldn't care about the beds and curtains if meant I was going to be late. I have to have a clean kitchen before I go to bed.

Dumbo18 · 29/05/2022 13:05

Currently on maternity leave so can be as late as I like. Regarding work, I very rarely am late for work but on the odd occasion I am I’ll still have my cuppa while rushing round getting dressed, doesn’t make me any later than I would be anyway…. Multi tasking is great! Yes the beds and curtains are a must, hate walking into the bedroom in darkness and messy bed. My dad was the same so must get it from him

For me, it just helps air the room out and I can't stand the smell of a musty room, especially a bedroom where people have been lying their snoring, breathing and farting all night 😂

Our bedroom windows are open year-round but I always open the curtains to let a breeze through. I also air out the downstairs before I go to work and have the windows etc open.

Mydogisagentleman · 29/05/2022 13:06

Most days I’m up at 5.45, shower, coffee and cig, walk the dog and feed him, more coffee and cigs, possibly a wash on so DH can put it out to dry once he is up

BeggyMitchell · 29/05/2022 13:08

Lol 😂

I always have a couple of windows open or ajar at night (not big ones that someone could climb through though) Sleep is better with that breeze of fresh air.

A580Hojas · 29/05/2022 13:14

I open all the curtains even before I've had a cup of tea. In my bedroom it's literally the first thing I do every day.

I need one cup of tea, face washed and moisturiser on, teeth brushed and hair brushed before I will go out anywhere.

Wouldyabeguilty · 29/05/2022 13:19

I am with you on the bed, i could never leave the house if my bed was not made.

PatAndFrank · 29/05/2022 13:32

if I hadn’t washed my hair the night before (as I do) and I woke up and hour late for work I would still have a bath, wash and dry my hair…been to work once when I didn’t wash it and it made me feel so not me.. daft as it was only one day of not washing it! We all have little things
