I can’t leave the house in the morning until…

I’ve made the beds and opened the curtains, it just doesn’t feel right to leave them, also I can’t go anywhere until I’ve had a cup of tea, I could be running late for work and I’d still need a cuppa while rushing round! Partner doesn’t quite understand why but I think it’s pretty normal stuff

i have two teas
and two coffees
sometimes i have to have half a coffee, or a small cup as my second one

ElenaSt · 29/05/2022 08:36

Our house could be on fire but I would still put my make up on!

I can do it very quickly though.

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 29/05/2022 08:39

I’m one of those people who are now wfh 4 days a week. My morning routine has now got really long - empty dishwasher (runs overnight), put wash on and fold yesterday ‘s wash, draw curtains and tidy up house generally, make beds, feed and water guinea pigs, wake up DD and encourage her to be on time several times, sit with her while she eats breakfast and we do the Wordle together, drive DD to school, drink at least 2 mugs of tea.

But on actual commuting days I’m up and out in 30 minutes and rarely do any of the above. But I find it hard to sit down and wfh if I haven’t done the chores first. If I’m running late, I concentrate on getting out the door properly washed and dressed, with my work pass and laptop, anything else is gravy.

Benjispruce4 · 29/05/2022 08:40

@ElenaSt absolutely!

Dashdotdotdash · 29/05/2022 08:50

I love my tea in the morning, but I absolutely wouldn't insist on it if I was running late. You can always make up for it later.

itsgettingweird · 29/05/2022 08:57

Coffee yes.

Making beds - No!!!

I literally leave home at 4.45am 4/5 days and apart from 1/2 hour twice in between I'm out until 7.30/8.30 those 4 days.

sammylady37 · 29/05/2022 09:03

I mean, how long does it take open curtains? Unless you live in a mansion, this is a matter of two or three minutes, surely?

and I don’t think it’s acceptable to be late for work because you wanted a cup of tea, tbh.

SunshineCake · 29/05/2022 09:26

It is better to leave beds unmade.

ChocolateHippo · 29/05/2022 09:27

Each to their own, but your work must be very relaxed if you think it is ok to make a cup of tea when you're running late. I'm assuming we can rule out you being a teacher, a doctor, a police officer, a prison guard or a university lecturer then 🤔?

Fadeout83 · 29/05/2022 09:32

Definitely not the OP I expected to read when I read the title 🤣

starfishmummy · 29/05/2022 09:58

YABU to feel you have to open curtains and make beds (and beds need airing anyway)

YANBU to insist on a cuppa first.

balalake · 29/05/2022 10:02

Seems normal apart perhaps from making beds. If you are having to rush around, then perhaps you need to think about your sleep patterns and the time you allow in the morning.

I won't leave without a bowl of cereal.

So what?

it's easy bothersome that the stupid posts asking what the AIBU is. If you want to be thread police, apply for a job at MNHQ.

ATadConfused · 29/05/2022 10:09

It used to be a shower, but I feel so absolutely dreadful in the mornings now, so I shower later.

other than that, duvet gets thrown back & as long as I have car keys & phone and I'm adequately dressed I'm good to go.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 29/05/2022 10:15

Before I leave for work, I always make sure the house is spotless - DH thinks I'm weird, but I love coming home from work and knowing I have nothing that needs doing, so I can just put my feet up and chill out.

I have an hour between waking up and leaving, and I always make the bed, feed the cats, sort their litter trays, sort the water bowls, vacuum downstairs (the cats track litter everywhere), wash the dishes, sweep the kitchen floors, clean the loo and often put on a load of laundry too. Plus I have to give one cat his tablets. Before anyone asks why DH doesn't do anything - he leaves at silly o'clock so he does all the evening housework instead, and often walks the dog early doors too.

I still have time to have coffee and breakfast, get changed etc. without too much rushing about.

JennyWren87 · 29/05/2022 10:31

Opening all the windows. I leave the house with a toddler and a baby most mornings for playgroups, parks, shopping etc. It's the perfect time to air out the house and it always makes me so happy to come home to a fresh smelling house.

Threetulips · 29/05/2022 10:40

Three teens finished school for summer - not a cat in hells chance of made beds or curtains open!

Dishwasher on or emptied - wash in or wash hanging out and that’s my limit.

If DD has an early shift none of it gets done as we’re out early and I go straight to work.

Passanotherjaffacake · 29/05/2022 10:49

Curtains and beds here, also DDs room nice and tidy and ready for when she comes home. Can be ditched in an emergency but rarely have those!

yesterdaytheycame · 29/05/2022 10:58

Of course. Routines, rituals, comforting preparations for the day, are all important. I don't get up and just go! I have at least two cups of coffee before I will do anything for anyone.

diddl · 29/05/2022 11:00

I don't get the not being able to leave the house without a tea/coffee tbh, especially if you're going to work & can have one when you get there.

For me, it's because I don't work in one place, so if I don't have one before I leave, I end up drinking it on the go in the car which isn't as relaxing and I often find it's gone cold by the time I get round to drinking it.

In my last job, it's because my commute was nearly an hour and I didn't want to be doing that drive without my morning coffee hit 😂

diddl · 29/05/2022 11:31

I think I'm also more of a "get up & go" person.

If I sit with a hot drink I'll take too long & be late!

Mellowyellow222 · 29/05/2022 11:41

so the work thing? You are okay being late for work because you need have a cup of tea? Is your work flexible? I imagine folk saying around a board room table waiting to start a meeting and you sat at your kitchen table drinking your tea😂
It’s okay to have routines but once they start interfering with day to day life that could be a problem.

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 11:43

Make bed
Toilet ,
Wash face teeth
Coffee
Breakfast mostly
Few minutes to compose. I like 1,5 hrs in the morning. I have 2 little ones

Mammma91 · 29/05/2022 11:44

cup of coffee, all washed dressed and teeth brushed. Anything else is a bonus! I do try to open the curtains and blinds in the morning - especially the livingroom ones and have a window slightly open to let some air in.
