To be sick of Which? recommending everything

Lilaone · 28/05/2022 19:04

Every product/service and advert seems to have a 'Which?' recommended sticker slapped on it at the moment. If it's not Lidl advertising they're Which?'s cheapest supermarket it's Jet2 saying Which? thinks they do the best holidays. Is there anything Which? DOESN'T recommend?

Also where did Which come from? Apparently you have to pay a tenner a month to see their reviews but hello... there are millions of free reviews online?

Of course - they test things, independently, and publish the results for subscribers. There are loads of things they don't recommend and actively advise you not to buy.
I wouldnt buy a big appliance without checking the which reviews. They aren't like random reviews online because you can be sure they're genuinely independent and they are far more thorough in most cases.

MagnoliaPrimrose · 28/05/2022 19:08

Obviously the products which aren't recommended as 'best buys' or are designated 'don't buys' don't advertise the fact so you wouldn't notice it.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 28/05/2022 19:08

Which do “do not buys” all the time. People need to look more in to Which, it’d save a lot of bloody time and money.

they safety test everything basically.

orwellwasright · 28/05/2022 19:10

Huh. There's loads they don't recommend but these products aren't slapped with a big label saying NOT RECOMMENDED BY WHICH? are they.

Companies are using it as an accolade, understandably so. That's why you're seeing it. Jeez.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 28/05/2022 19:13

How fucking dare they tell me this product won’t electrocute me!

YABU

Mumwantingtogetitright · 28/05/2022 19:14

As other posters have said, the "Don't Buys" tend not to advertise themselves as such, so if you don't subscribe, you won't see them.

I never make a big purchase without reading the Which reviews first. I trust them far more than random reviews on the Internet from people who haven't tested a range of products across the market.

I haven't been disappointed with any of their recommendations so far so I'm happy to pay my monthly subscription.

Most products bought these days through legit retailers will not electrocute you. It's 2022.

Which? has been around for donkeys years. My dad used to get it delivered when I was a kid 40-odd years ago!

It does seem to be more common to see companies using the Which? Seal of approval though.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 28/05/2022 19:16

Also where did Which come from?

What do you mean by that question? Which? Has been around for decades as an independent product reviewer and isnt the same thing as online reviews

RoseAndRose · 28/05/2022 19:18

I always consult Which? for major purchases. They actually test things, and tell you what they've done and what the results are. Way more useful than online reviews

ouch321 · 28/05/2022 19:18

I really rate Which for unbiased reviews.

This is the weirdest whining I think I've seen in a long while...

Idontevenknow · 28/05/2022 19:20

I think Which is brilliant, YABU

orwellwasright · 28/05/2022 19:21

Lilaone · 28/05/2022 19:15

Most products bought these days through legit retailers will not electrocute you. It's 2022.

Amazon is a legitimate retailer. Hundreds of products are regularly taken off their site because of electrocution or other risks, ironically often identified by Which

Lilaone · 28/05/2022 19:21

But I could have told you all that Lidl is the cheapest supermarket, and for free!

OP posts:
Mumwantingtogetitright · 28/05/2022 19:21

Apart from anything, it saves me so much time!! Because someone else has done all of the work!!

RoseAndRose · 28/05/2022 19:21

It's a way of cutting through all the online shite and having something evidence-based. I'm not remotely surprised that companies are proud to be recommended and draw attention to that

MoggyP · 28/05/2022 19:22

Lilaone · 28/05/2022 19:21

yes, but can you give all the other info?

Mumwantingtogetitright · 28/05/2022 19:23

Lilaone · 28/05/2022 19:21

Sure, but could you also tell me which is the best budget laptop? The most reliable washing machine in my price range? The best car for my needs?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 28/05/2022 19:24

Without being rude Lila you could tell me that but you aren’t an independent committee of industry experts.

they do their own car safety testing, are you an engineer?

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 28/05/2022 19:25

As to where Which? comes from - it’s owned by the Consumers’ Association, which is a long-standing charity that promotes consumer rights.

Exactly. I value the Which verdict because I trust it. I couldn't give a toss what some random on the Internet thinks.

orwellwasright · 28/05/2022 19:29

Also where did Which come from

It's been around for 65 years. Have you only just heard of it?

I can't think of many weirder things to get bent out of shape about than a consumer rights organisation. Stick to the reviews on Amazon, OP. They're free and the odd few might even be real.

RidingMyBike · 28/05/2022 19:30

It's independent, evidence-based reviews of all kinds of things. We had access to an online subscription via DH's work but some local libraries have it? It's been a big help to us for all kinds of purchases - household appliances, baby stuff etc.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 28/05/2022 19:32

Which? have been around for over half a century - they're not new!

orwellwasright · 28/05/2022 19:32

Which? does a lot of class action in courts, resulting in law change and millions in compo.

If you're going to moan about something then at least bother to find out what that thing is first.
