Anyone had a problem with Hermes/Evri?

So I had a parcel delivered today. The Evri driver was shouting my house number outside as I hadn’t heard the door, I had the hoover on I went down to apologise and said I’d had the hoover on! He started to have a bit of a go saying I need to make his life easier if I’m not going to be in, granted I’ve missed a few parcels from him the last few weeks, I did explain I work with children doing 9-10 hour shifts and as you know you can only divert parcels when the tracking updates on the day of delivery and I can’t access my phone at work and by the time I have a break he’d already tried to deliver. I explained this and apologised again and he said I need to make his life easier he’s self employed and only earns 52p a parcel, I told him to next time leave it around the back or throw it over the fence he said he couldn’t do that! By this time he was getting I feel very rude saying I need to divert it next door. Again I said I don’t have access to my phone and o do try to arrange my deliveries around work. I told him I wouldn’t be spoken to like this and went to shut the door. He said he didn’t mean to be rude etc… I said my bye and picked up My parcel

The tracking photo doesn’t even show a picture of the parcel but my 4 year old very upset clinging to me! I honestly do appreciate he works hard and can be doing without this hassle! It has really upset me the way he spoke to me.. I do try and get things delivered on my day off or a Saturday.

has anyone else had any issues like this? Never had any issue with the lady who used to deliver for us!

I had an Evri delivery yesterday, the driver left my parcel on the doorstep and left, didn't knock or ring the bell. I found it two hours later when I went to get DS from school. There is a major shortage of delivery drivers in my area, nobody wants to work for Evri or they quit after a week - too many parcels to deliver and they get lots of abuse from Customers when they try their best to deliver them.

PuffyMcPuffFace · 27/05/2022 13:22

It's such a shame as some Evri people are really brilliant, like the guy who does our village. I will always choose Evri as I know it's in safe hands with our driver.

Mally100 · 27/05/2022 13:38

I think its you who was difficult. All the reasons you gave him isn't really his problem. Our guy is just so lovely.

OldTinHat · 27/05/2022 13:42

Oh Evri/Hermes! Bane of my life! I had a parcel supposed to be delivered yesterday, saw her on my door cam after reviewing footage but she didn't ring the bell and wandered off with my parcel. No card left as per. Have had to play the 'knock on every neighbour's door' to track it down but still haven't located it.

Today, I was expecting another parcel from them. I had to go out so left a note asking them to please leave a card saying where the parcel has been left and where did they leave yesterday's. Came home, no card and the parcel was left behind my bin. Its bin day today so that was lucky I was home in time (funnily enough, I'd gone to the sorting office to pick up a royal mail parcel that I'd missed too, came home to a royal mail card through my door saying 'sorry we missed you'...aargh!!).

nearlyspringyay · 27/05/2022 13:49

Same shit service, different packaging. They should have spent the Money on the rebrand sorting the service out instead. I won't order anything if they're the carrier.

girlmom21 · 27/05/2022 13:59

If you're rarely home for parcels have them delivered to the parcel shop instead.

It's unfair to keep ordering parcels and never being home or not being available when you are home.

Upontherooftops · 27/05/2022 14:13

I never used to have a problem with Hermes, our local delivery women are great. But I was due to have my first parcel since the rebrand delivered yesterday and instead I got an email saying it's delayed. Click through to the tracking and it just says it's with them and delayed, no info on where it is or when it will arrive, how is that useful?
How long are things typically delayed for?

SilverTotoro · 27/05/2022 14:14

Last week I had a picture of a corner of someone else’s gate - no idea where the parcel ended up. At least ASOS refunded quickly (item was then out of stock so couldn’t get a replacement).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/05/2022 14:17

So far (since the rebrand) they've lost one completely and delivered another to a random address. No successful deliveries.

Our estate a bit awkward but every other company manages.

Shakeupandwakeup · 27/05/2022 14:18

Our man is brilliant. He's quite elderly and every time he delivers I feel a bit worried for him working at his age but maybe he does it to keep busy. He's always friendly.

Fluffymule · 27/05/2022 14:20

His frustration at being paid 52p per parcel is something he should not be directing at you. You should also not feel you have to explain yourself to him, or provide personal information about your circumstances to try and pacify him.

Hermes/Evri are, at a corporate level, appalling in my experience (one that seems pretty universal). Locally it can very much depend on the individual courier, and many do a really good job - far more than Evri deserve for their 52p.

In terms of a practical solution you can try with the retailer at point of order to take advantage of any delivery point options they might have (like collect+ or Amazon/supermarket lockers) if available.

Or have you considered purchasing a secure parcel box that can be placed outside of your house for all delivery companies to use? It would mean less stress for all parties so might be worth the initial outlay. One of my previous neighbours had one and they found it worked really well.

MelonsMelonsMelons · 27/05/2022 14:20

The only issue I’ve had is their weird decision to leave parcels in the stinking black general waste bin when the dry, clean blue cardboard bin is next to it.

LampLighter414 · 27/05/2022 14:29

Wait... Those lovely ads I keep seeing for what appears to be a new delivery company... Evri. Who knock quietly and smile at the mum holding her baby... Are actually for Hermes?

Wow they are really trying to avoid absolutely any association with the former branding

I'll avoid if I see them as delivery options. Can't stand Hermes!

SnoopDogisamenace · 27/05/2022 14:30

Awful! I was in but they didn’t even try my door. Got pic of delivered parcel which was in next doors driveway. No one lives there at the minute and there’s a 6 foot gate on the drive so parcel had been flung over the gate and left lying in torrential rain! Managed to hook parcel out under gate with a rake.

Ours is brilliant too. I gave him a Christmas present!

Cas112 · 27/05/2022 14:31

They are the worst. I wont shop somewhere if I know delivery will be with them

loislovesstewie · 27/05/2022 14:34

My local delivery driver is absolutely lovely! I always give him 5 stars in my reviews of the service. However, my son had a delivery of a mobile phone that was left at an address not even in the same town but hundreds of miles away with a photo of the outside of a house that looked nothing like ours. In other words, despite the address and postcode being correct, they couldn't get it right! We were able to track the address it had gone to by looking at Google street view and had to tell Evri/Hermes where it was!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 27/05/2022 14:53

When we lived in the city, Hermes were the worst delivery company often just dumping parcels outside the door (of a very busy and rough estate). I came back to a parcel that had been opened many times although my stuff was never stolen because it was stuff that wouldn’t sell or wouldn’t be worth selling on (cheap clothes, second hand books).

Where we live now, they are fantastic. There’s been about 3 Hermes drivers while we’ve been here and they’ve always been reliable unlike DHL who can deliver DH’s parcels perfectly but never mine. Our current lady is so lovely, she just waits patiently while I sort out the chaos of my house (2 dogs and a baby) and will always give whichever dog is trying to break out and the baby a fuss. We’re definitely a lot of hassle for 52p but the lady is always lovely.

MadisonAvenue · 27/05/2022 14:55

We used to have a really excellent Hermes driver up until January who knew where to leave things if we weren’t in but he’s since retired.

We’ve had a few different ones since and the service is terrible now. Last week one came and as I opened the door he was holding the parcel and taking a photo. I went to take the parcel from him and he pulled it back and said he needed a signature. He held the device towards me and it was filthy, it had dried splashes of something on the screen.
I was CEV during the pandemic and it’s made me a bit germ phobic so I asked why I was suddenly needing to sign for a low value item when a more expensive item earlier in the week just needed a photo. He said ‘just sign’, I offered to wipe the screen and he refused - again saying ‘just sign’ - and also refused to hand the parcel over despite having taken a photo and got back in his van with it and drove off.

The photo taken in my open doorway is on the tracking but I’m still without my parcel and it’s marked as being out for redelivery for the last 7 days.

I’ve spoken to Evri via Instagram and was told that all deliveries are contactless so I shouldn’t have been asked to sign anything.

Mooloolabababy · 27/05/2022 14:58

We're very lucky as our driver is lovely! Ive had her for years and she knows where to leave the parcel if we're not in. Never had a parcel late or go missing with her.

I don’t have the option to have it delivered to a parcel shop on the shops I’ve bought from but will certainly look out for this option in the future!

Will definitely look into a security box! Thank you x

I do try and organise any deliveries on my days off, last time I done this though I paid for next day delivery for the Saturday and didn’t get it delivered until the Monday!

I don’t get a lot of parcels I had a few a couple of weeks back which he dropped at my neighbours, I don’t have multiple parcels a week!

ThinWomansBrain · 27/05/2022 15:17

I had a hermes/evri delivery that went well a few weeks ago😲
Sadly about two weeks later they were claiming my building didn't exist - err, try the one with the street number sign-painted on the wall in 2ft high letters, or asking the driver that delevered a couple of weeks ago.
I'd already included the junction that the building is on in the delivery instructions.

I usually complain to the supplier that I will not be using them again whilst they continue to use hermes/evri.
When they find the building, there are enough apartments that someone can buzz them in, but agree with PP that if you aren't going to be there and don't have other arrangements, have stuff delivered to a parcel shop.

TokyoTen · 27/05/2022 15:20

I haven't had a problem with them and we have a lot of stuff delivered. However I wouldn't start justifying myself to him. I take the parcel and go in. On the other hand if I wasn't going to be around I'd get it delivered to a locker/parcel shop.
