to ask what you buy your husband for birthday?

Buying gifts for men is difficult. What do they want? My husband likes things like expensive watches, am I meant to save up and get him one? He earns all the money, it would take me a few months to save for a watch for a few hundred pounds... is that worth it or would you need to spend thousands? I know nothing about expensive accessories.

What other types of things do you get your husbands?

I got my partner a flying lesson last year, it was £180, he loved it and I was so excited to see his face

merryhouse · 26/05/2022 20:24

I think if he "likes expensive watches" he's likely to have several at a couple of hundred already.

I usually get H a selection from
-a novel he'll enjoy more than I will (high fantasy or Technical Ropes)
-an interesting bottled beer (not whisky because we'd end up both drinking that)
-something based on dark chocolate, which I don't really like
-a fancy shirt or a formalish jacket
-a mug (Christmas he got history of bikes, birthday DC superheroes)

I got mine the Lego space shuttle for his last birthday. He loved it.
A couple of years before I got him Lego Saturn V rocket, Apollo 11. He was over the moon. 😁

My husband is a foodie so I’ve bought him accessories for his ooni pizza oven and an outdoor pizza table for him to use. I know he’ll love them and use them a lot.

IncompleteSenten · 26/05/2022 20:28

Depends how much money we've got at the time.

Over the years I've bought him hot sauce selections, aftershaves, clothes and alcohol.

thefirstmrsrochester · 26/05/2022 20:29

Books and red wine usually. Always gratefully received.

Nosetickle · 26/05/2022 20:30

I ask him what he wants, he sends me links because he’s very specific about what he likes. It’ll be something around £50ish. I usually buy him a couple of surprises too, something consumable and some kind of momento from the children.

Blurp · 26/05/2022 20:30

Usually books here as well. Budget of about £20 or so.

FreezyFreezy · 26/05/2022 20:30

I bought him some cheese last year. We also visited a Cold War bunker.

Mostly though we don't give gifts.

RampantIvy · 26/05/2022 20:31

DH is a wine and real ale enthusiast, so I just buy him wine and beer. It sounds boring, but he takes his wine especially seriously and really appreciates a nice bottle of wine. His birthday is straight after Christmas so getting yet more presents has kind of lost its novelty

oioimatey · 26/05/2022 20:32

I bought DH a canoe last year. I've also bought him an Ooni pizza oven and an armchair.

1FootInTheRave · 26/05/2022 20:34

Fancy top/tee shirt, aftershave, designer boxers, socks, fancy vodka, fave chocs , nice smellies etc.

Big birthday next time so he's having a v v expensive watch.

elQuintoConyo · 26/05/2022 20:36

My dad has a bunch of watches, albeit not expensive ones, I bought him a jewellery box that only holds watches - a watch box, I suppose you'd call it. He and his partner go on loads of cruises and he has a watch for every outfit, loved his gift.

For DH recent years I've bought him:
Books
Blueprint poster of our classic car (from Redbubble), it went down a storm.
I've recently cross stitched three of his favourite TV series (Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Colombo). They're awesome, if I may say so myself.
I'll buy him cool shoes he wouldn't buy himself, the odd t shirt, spongebag for Xmas (his was knackered, and this one can hang in the shower when we go camping, also it's not too big cos he only carriess toothbrush and deodorant, no shaving stuff).

We only buy small cheapish things , because we both work and buy the things we need. Flying lesson sounds great, but we couldn't stretch to that

MolliciousIntent · 26/05/2022 20:36

I knit DH something every year for his birthday.

Titsflyingsouth · 26/05/2022 20:37

Bought DH a beginners archery course at a local club last birthday.

AppleBirdBrush · 26/05/2022 20:39

I would say expensive watches are £5k plus.

What does he get you for birthdays and Christmas?

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 26/05/2022 20:39

My husband sends me a list.

Antarcticant · 26/05/2022 20:40

What he asks for. This year it was walking boots. Last year it was DVDs of some American sci-fi series. I think the year before it was a watch (not a designer one).

PurpleFlower1983 · 26/05/2022 20:41

Good whisky and an experience of some kind.

Louise0701 · 26/05/2022 20:41

Clothes
airpods
aftershave
tickets / voucher for an experience
weekend away / night away

if he likes expensive watches I wouldn’t bother with one at a couple hundred quid.

NewYorkLassie · 26/05/2022 20:42

I too find it difficult. I usually opt for a weekend away (sometimes with, sometimes without the kids), something food related (have done Fortnums hampers a few times) or sports tickets.

Ragwort · 26/05/2022 20:44

Nothing Grin .. married over 30 years and we've long given up buying each other gifts, we've always shared a bank account ... if we want something (& can afford it) we tend to choose something for ourselves. We celebrate the occasion with a meal out or day out ... but neither of us are interested in 'surprises'.

Libertaire · 26/05/2022 20:44

Mine loves whisky, so he’s easily pleased. Test match tickets always go down well, too.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 26/05/2022 20:44

Cycling or fishing stuff - he sends me a link.
Socks and underpants.
I'll pay for a meal out or similar.

RandomQuest · 26/05/2022 20:45

Obvs depends on his taste but I’d class an ‘expensive watch’ as at least 5k. I don’t get DH anything. I organise the baby sitter, book a fancy restaurant I know he’ll love and a swanky bar for drinks.
