to ask what you buy your husband for birthday?

Buying gifts for men is difficult. What do they want? My husband likes things like expensive watches, am I meant to save up and get him one? He earns all the money, it would take me a few months to save for a watch for a few hundred pounds... is that worth it or would you need to spend thousands? I know nothing about expensive accessories.

What other types of things do you get your husbands?

Sunglasses!

I'd love that.

So do that. Saves loads of stress and wasted money. If you have to say 'buy me X from Y shop' it's not a gift and obviously most people don't want anyone else choosing things that they have to wear, use etc so if he wants a fancy watch, he buys one himself. Then you spend your money on you.

Just exchange token gifts like chocolate, favourite alcohol or whatever and have days/meals out to celebrate.

Mine's was last week - he got a home brewing starter kit - he's loving it so far and talking about the different types he wants to try next once this batch is ready (in 3-4 days as he was degassing earlier - no idea what that means but it keeps him happy)

LoveActually89 · 26/05/2022 22:51

I gave mines £150 recently. He wants an Apple watch. I can't afford the whole thing, so thought it'd be best to give him money to go towards.

Men are so hard to buy for.

FloweryCurtainTwitcher · 26/05/2022 23:09

Married 35 years. Joint money
Dont buy each other any gifts. If he wants a watch then he can buy one.

BadLad · 26/05/2022 23:09

Last birthday I got:

Bottle of vintage port.
Star Wars cantina Lego set
Binoculars
R2D2 hoodie
Video game (requested)
Weekend away

JennyJumpup · 26/05/2022 23:18

A course in something he's interested in or a stargazing weekend in a dark place (he's interested in astronomy).

If you don't have money don't buy him anything! Cook a nice meal/celebration cake and get a bottle of wine if you can afford it.

Whatever you do don't buy him a watch. (In fact never buy anyone anything that they specialise in. You'll inevitably get it wrong!)

Ragwort · 27/05/2022 07:09

To the PP who got into debt buying her DH an expensive weekend away in a hotel ... surely that's a poor decision? No present or man is worth getting into debt for. Perhaps I am boringly frugal but I would be horrified if my DH bought me an expensive gift but he couldn't afford it Shock.

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 27/05/2022 07:27

Expensive watch husband here, don't try on that one. For his last birthday I bought him a beautiful cotton kimono and a cotton dressing gown from Tom, Dick & Harry. Well made, he loves them and as a bonus he looks good in them as well. Win, win, win! 😊

BackToTheTop · 27/05/2022 07:40

Pants, socks and a nice bottle of vodka or gin. Plus we usually go away from the weekend

MrsToothyBitch · 27/05/2022 07:50

DP has just had his birthday. I got him:

  • A nice box of chocolates which heavily featured his favourite flavours
  • A mini bbq as he'd shown an interest in having one
  • A new polo shirt from Bennetton
  • Some everyday sweets & chocolates he really likes as a little extra to open.
  • Used money from the household account to do a party tea with family members.

My parents gave him £100, a bottle of his preferred booze, some nice honey for his tea and some chocolate.

Previous birthday gifts have included a marvel mug for his favourite character, a cuddly seal- we have matching ones, new socks & pants and undershirt t shirts, games vouchers and different chocolates. Probably other stuff but I can't remember- it all blends with Christmas and anniversaries and so on!

??

Not sure what you're querying

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 27/05/2022 08:41

Neither of us goes for really big presents. DH is into cycling so I sometimes get him gear or equipment. Always chocolate involved but he doesn’t drink.

IncompleteSenten · 28/05/2022 10:13

Asking what you knit I imagine.
Socks, jumper, willy warmer...

FrecklesMalone · 28/05/2022 10:19

If he's loaded you surely are too?
I got DH concert tickets one year, whisky this year.

All sorts. Hats, gloves, jumpers, hoodies, vests, socks, a very ugly tie once... Never a willy warmer though, I'll put that on the docket for this year.

AuntieMarys · 28/05/2022 10:51

We set a budget of £200 each for birthdays. All must be surprises and include something to do...eg gig tickets, theatre...I got him a proper Turkish shave one year.
We both have unusual taste so we don't buy the usual type of gifts.

TabithaTittlemouse · 28/05/2022 10:53

Dh birthday is soon.
I’ve got him a new amp, a nice shirt, chocolates and we are going away for the night.
Don’t overthink it and don’t get into debt.

Leave the watch, it’s such a personal thing.

mudgetastic · 28/05/2022 10:54

Whatever he buys himself is taken off him until his birthday

Winterhail · 28/05/2022 10:58

My DH is a cookery enthusiast, so I buy either good quality utensils or cookery books.

resuwen · 28/05/2022 10:59

MolliciousIntent · 26/05/2022 20:36

I knit DH something every year for his birthday.

This is lovely. 😊 I've bought mine a PS5 as a joint birthday/Xmas present. He doesn't know yet!

shivawn · 28/05/2022 11:01

I buy my husband things I think he'll like as I see them year round, I don't get anything for occasions like birthdays or Christmas. I will try to make an effort for Fathers Day this year though since its his first one.

Puffalicious · 28/05/2022 11:13

DH birthday is this week. I've bought him fancy, new mountain biking shoes, a new biking top, special sports pants a BAM bamboo tshirt (he loves the one I bought for Xmas) and bits for our new camper van (key-ring, stickers, travel log notebook).

He's into biking and cars so it's always easy.

Past presents include: a new roof (convertible!), special, coffee posh pyjamas, nice creams/ grooming stuff, hoody, personalised tshirts (car/ bike related), tickets, artwork, weekend away and always, always coffee! Men aren't any harder to buy for than women, I don't think.

Puffalicious · 28/05/2022 11:14

Sorry, always always chocolate!
