To send frankfurter sausages in DS lunchbox

He doesn’t eat sandwiches, wraps etc.

I want him to eat.
I know he eats these, so is it acceptable? The other thing I thought of was cooked cold pizza slices.

I will add salad bits too and fruit etc.

It's fine!

LittleOwl153 · 25/05/2022 17:42

pizza is definately popular here!

Yourheartwillleadyouhome · 25/05/2022 17:52

They're quite a choking hazard though? How old is he?

lop32 · 25/05/2022 18:00

Are we talking about the slightly strange wobbly pinkish ones in a can? If so, I'd probably go for a 'proper' sausage.

Which I appreciate may be entirely baseless as they're no doubt as processed as frankfurters.

CuriousCatfish · 25/05/2022 18:00

It's fine.

Delinathe · 25/05/2022 18:02

Our son loves when we send cold pizza. (We live basically on the equator atm and finding things that won't turn during the course of the morning is murder!) Frankfurters are fine.

bridgetreilly · 25/05/2022 18:07

Why wouldn’t they be okay?

EcafTnuc · 25/05/2022 18:17

Would they be alright in a warm classroom?

AbsolutelyLoveIy · 25/05/2022 18:23

Can’t you at least get him vegetarian sausages which won’t go off? I had a dodgy sausage off a stall last week and was in the toilet half an hour later

BraveFaceScaredInside · 25/05/2022 18:32

When my youngest refused to eat bread of any kind I used to send him in with cold chicken nuggets, cold cooked sausages and sausage rolls. All his friends were envious lol.

Send him in whatever you think will be eaten 👌

Oblomov22 · 25/05/2022 18:39

Choking hazard? I didn't even know that!

IggyAce · 25/05/2022 18:41

I’ve been a lunchtime supervisor and it’s fine, we just want kids to be happy and full. Our school has trollies for pack lunches that are stored in a cool cupboard so no worries about warm classrooms.

Fairislefandango · 25/05/2022 18:44

Why would they be any different in a warm classroom thanham in a ham sandwich, for example? Both are cooked, processed meat.

Lots of alternatives to try.. not sure frankfurters are filling or healthy..
cold pasta
cold pancakes with fruit
quorn sausages
quorn sausage rolls
pork sausage rolls
pork sausages
Scotch eggs
bread sticks/chopped veg and hummus or cream cheese

I say this as a mother of a fussy DS who now eats a lot better!

Why would pork sausages be any 'healthier' than frankfurter?

Obvious really!

They’re not massively but I think they’re a bit more substantial. I’ve given lots of other examples!

CreamteainCornwall · 25/05/2022 18:51

He doesn’t eat cheese, he doesn’t eat egg, he doesn’t eat hummus.
He’s recently gone off sausage rolls.

I think I’ll skip the frankfurters for now, but put cold pizza in.

Pesto pasta? My son loves it and can get away with mixing in some cream cheese and he doesn’t notice. Also I have whizzed up cooked peas in to the pesto before too!

Notanotherwindow · 25/05/2022 18:53

Just stick an ice pack in there or a frozen drink and it'll be fine.

Mindymomo · 25/05/2022 18:53

For those worried about choking, you can cut them up and add with salad or pasta.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 25/05/2022 18:58

It's fine, I cut them into strips

I've sent alsorts over the years and none of them have ever had food poisoning from a frankfurter being out the fridge for a few hours . I'm sure plenty of people sent in tuna

2 children with spd means lunch boxes can be difficult sometimes. The school are aware though and have never had an issue with the odd choices!

CreamteainCornwall · 25/05/2022 18:59

He’s gone off pasta now as well!

To be honest there’s very little he will eat now!

OP posts:
RaisingAgent · 25/05/2022 19:04

Absolutely fine!

Other ideas in case any might be a match for him:

Frikadillen meatballs (pre cooked cold style from deli section)
Fridge raiders
Cold quiche
Pork pies
Cold hash browns
Scotch pancakes

Ilovethewild · 25/05/2022 19:16

Fussy eater child here too. Was chicken slices in wrap for years then went off that and ate luncheon meat wraps for years. Won’t eat cheese, ham, egg, hummus, tuna, any sliced meat, salad….

this week - rice, sweetcorn and cooked chicken mixed in hot thermos. It maybe this for some time…

once he finds something he likes he sticks with it.
also has grapes, yo yo bar and soreen cake (fruit).

I’ve told him he has to find a sandwich filling he will eat, he offered Jam! 😂

if he eats frankfurters, go for it!
