Ok, please talk to me about..... bath towels.

Where do you store them, how do you rotate?
I don't have an airing cupboard, so you use a towel, where do you put it? It needs to dry, where do you store it? Where are your towels kept? Where do you get a fresh towel from?

I have spent waaaay too much time thinking about this so please let me know your towel routine!

Towels kept in airing cupboard, but any cupboard would do. Everyone has their own, kids’ are hung on the back of their doors between uses, ours get put on the towel rail in the bathroom. Clean towels once a week.

You shouldn't ever need to wash bath towels - when you get out of the bath/shower surely you're the cleanest thing in the house so the towel will only ever get cleaner when it's rubbed against you.

Skin cells!!

Hallyup89 · 25/05/2022 11:04

Don't know how to 'adult'? Heaven help me. Presumably you've used a towel all your life? Makes me wonder how anyone manages to stay alive on here.

maddy68 · 25/05/2022 11:06

Over bath shelf in the bathroom

BadAtMaths2 · 25/05/2022 11:10

We have an airing cupboard now - but when we didn't.

Hang over bannister to air after use. Wash at least once a week - usually more often. Also had heated towel rail in bathroom. Don't put damp towel in the laundry basket unless they are going straight in washing machine.

Mol1628 · 25/05/2022 11:11

We have a towel each. And then a couple of spares. Makes things so much easier. They’re washed once every couple of weeks. They go on the bannister to dry out then hang up on a hook in the bathroom.

When we get the bathroom redone I’m having a big towel rail put in so they don’t need to go on the bannister anymore

thecurtainsofdestiny · 25/05/2022 11:20

Fresh towels kept in a cupboard.

Used towels dry on heated towel rail in bathroom.

Washed 2-3 times a week and dried outside on line or on pulley.

Then folded and put back in cupboard.

Fairislefandango · 25/05/2022 11:21

Towels not currently in use are kept in bathroom cupboard. Towels currently in use are hung up on back of bedroom or bathroom door. Washed about once a week.

VestaTilley · 25/05/2022 11:30

1 towel per family member, changed at least once a week, washed on 60. Mine changed more often when I have my period. I also have a small towel on the go for when I wash my hair.

Clean towels live in the airing cupboard, towels in use live on the hook on the back of the bathroom door or on the heated towel rail (we moved in to a house with these magical things; we’d never have had the money to put them in ourselves!)

Lots of people used to use wooden towel rails (freestanding) to keep their own towel in their bedrooms; this can be a good storage solution, but I think can make rooms damp unless you have heating on or windows open (expensive and often impractical).

If you don’t have a towel rail keep towels in use on an airer in the bathroom (if space allows), or on the bathroom radiator and back of the door.

If you don’t have an airing cupboard maybe buy a cheap ottoman for storage or store in wardrobes or drawers.

catscatscatseverywhere · 25/05/2022 11:44

The one I use, hangs on the radiator. My husband's on the door hook. Clean ones are kept in the drawer in the bedroom. I change them once a week.

FirewomanSam · 25/05/2022 12:00

Freshly washed towels get hung on a clothes airer to dry and then spun in the tumble drier while still slightly
damp to make them nice and fluffy.

Clean towels get stored in a lidded basket in the bathroom.

‘In-use’ towels go on the towel rail in the bathroom.

Used towels waiting for a wash go in a big laundry bag that I keep in the utility cupboard where the washing machine is, along with other household laundry like cloths, tea towels etc.

I totally get the struggle though and it’s only since moving into my current flat that I’ve had a towel ‘system’ I’ve felt happy with! Previously I’ve lived in places with barely any space to hang towels in the bathroom or anywhere to store them and it was constantly irritating me.

easyday · 25/05/2022 12:05

The ones in use hang on the tall towel radiator (now off as it runs with the central heating) in each bathroom.
Clean towels not in use are stored, along with bed linen, on shelves in the guest bedroom wardrobe.
I have a washer/dryer so they come out dry.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/05/2022 12:10

I am also not an adult in this area.
My towels live draped over the banister when in use. Or (often) strewn about the kids floors where they've been discarded.
Once a week they get put in the washing basket in the kitchen and replaced with new ones. They live there for a bit, doing service as general spill mopping and floor drying cloths, on the grounds that they're already dirty and it doesn't matter. Then they get washed and returned.
Poor towels.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/05/2022 13:10

Aha! I can answer this!

We moved in October and I treated the family to new towels. We have one bath sheet, one bath towel and one flannel per person, all different colours. I bought some personalised labels from Etsy with our names on and sewed them in loops so when not in use they can be hung up.

This was because I was fed up of towels on the floor, towels over the bannister, towels over the top of the door - basically towels everywhere other than where they were supposed to be (folded and on the radiator in the bathroom).

I have a couple of extra towels for guests and an old one for sex mopping up spills. I even got labels that say GUEST Grin. Those are kept folded in the airing cupboard but if we didn't have one I'd probably put them with my linens.

10HailMarys · 25/05/2022 14:52

Currently, a cupboard in the spare bedroom. In our old house we kept them on the shelf at the top of our wardrobe.

What do you all use when your personalised towels and flannels are in the wash, then?

emmathedilemma · 25/05/2022 15:07

Dry them on hooks on the back of the bathroom door between use.
Store them in a big storage basket in the main bathroom to free up a drawer.
Rotation is pretty much whichever comes out first although I tend to have towels that i use all the time which match the bathroom hand towels, gym towels (more like beach towels) and spare ones for guests.

mutleyschuckle · 25/05/2022 16:00

Small bungalow- no storage/airing cupboard. Annoying as my mum has 3...
1 towel each, hung outside to dry if it's nice or over the door/heated airer if not. Washed when they start to smell of biscuits- generally about 2 weeks. I'm aware many will not be impressed with this but really- just out of a shower or bath where you have used soap to wash with, you are (hopefully) clean all over - it's not going to get dirty for a while.

The penis rag? Grin

MintyMoocow · 25/05/2022 20:42

Airing cupboard, rolled up so they can be seen from one end, if you store them in flat piles they get in a terrible mess.

They get washed and dried while at work/school. And like I said we have a couple of spares should they be required.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 26/05/2022 00:13

Oh to be clear, flannels are for faces not fannies and arses! Grin We use sponges for those.

IDreamOfTheMoors · 26/05/2022 04:34

I have a teensy tiny bathroom, so I bought an above-toilet metal shelving unit.
Really inexpensive.
I keep my clean towels there & some in the cupboard.
I hang the wet towels on the rack on the wall.

IDreamOfTheMoors · 26/05/2022 04:35

Oops.
I bought the shelving unit on Amazon. They’ve got many to choose from.

Ponderingwindow · 26/05/2022 04:54

Our clean towels are on a shelf in our bedroom closet.

towels in use are tried on a towel rack in the bathroom.
