To worry I’ve totally messed up our holiday

Going to France, Italy and Germany beginning Aug. I thought DD12 could get her 2 x vax 8 weeks apart, it turns out its 12 weeks. She had the first one today so will not be able to have the second one in time.... Holiday all booked and paid for, I was so sure it was eight weeks! Please, no snark about doing my research, does anyone know if this means we can’t go?

No surely it just means you need to get her tested before you travel.

Blueblisters · 24/05/2022 19:29

According to the German entry requirements unvaccinated travellers over 12 can’t come in. We arrive from the UK into Holland by boat and I don’t think Holland will let her in either. Actually cannot believe this.

What about the single dose Janssen vaccine?

Blueblisters · 24/05/2022 19:38

It’s too late for the Jansen I think as she has already had the first dose of the AZ? Thanks for the suggestion though.

Sorry just googled it and it says it’s for over 18s.

Shudacudawuda · 24/05/2022 19:38

We've just been on a trip to Holland and nobody checked or asked for any of our covid documents.
Our son is 12 and had only had one jab when we went, the rules definitely allowed him in, that was in April.
Are you absolutely sure about the German rules?

Shudacudawuda · 24/05/2022 19:42

It looks to me like you just need her to have a negative test before you go?

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/germany/entry-requirements

Travellers aged 12 or over entering Germany from abroad must possess either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative COVID-19 test prior to arrival and present this proof on request to carriers or authorities.

mum11970 · 24/05/2022 19:42

According to .gov you can have the second jab between 8 and 12 weeks apart. Try phoning your gp and seeing if they will do it at 8 weeks.

DrippyLongstocking · 24/05/2022 19:42

It looks to me like a minor, who is travelling with their fully-vaccinated parents, does not themselves need to be fully vaccinated.

Are you sure you can't just do a travel PCR 3 days before you go?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/05/2022 19:43

Why has she had AZ at aged 12?

TheGetaway · 24/05/2022 19:43

Hopefully the rules will have changed by the time you go. Alternatively, she needs to get it!

givememarmite · 24/05/2022 19:45

Travellers 12 and over need to be tested, vaccinated OR recovered. This is the current advice from the German RKI website:

Ignore me. I think that might not apply to tourists

Sorry posted too soon!

So she will just need to have a LTF or PCR within the correct timeframe before entering Germany. If you check the RKI website regularly before you go that will give you the correct German advice in English.

They gave her AZ? That is not what children should be having. They should only be having Pfizer

That’s a point. Children don’t have the AZ.

I think I misunderstood the link, sorry, they just don’t need to fill out the declaration…

Cuphalffullor · 24/05/2022 19:51

call round different vaccination centres. Need one with a Dr on site. Likely you’ll find one who will agree.

mum11970 · 24/05/2022 19:52

They moved the time scale up to 8 weeks from 12 weeks in May last year so there is no reason why she shouldn’t get then second in 8 weeks.

Boysnme · 24/05/2022 19:52

She can get it between 8 & 12 weeks. My 12 year old DS got his 2nd at 8 weeks. We went to a walk in clinic.

givememarmite · 24/05/2022 19:53

I'm really sorry, reading the link above from the German embassy it states UK nationals are only allowed entry if fully vaccinated. I didn't realise that, I live in Germany and thought I had been following this closely but obviously not!

AlwaysLatte · 24/05/2022 19:56

We're in the same boat!! My Dad died around the time that our 11 year old became eligible for the first jab. He's had it now but the 12 week wait for the second plus 2 extra weeks required by the country we're going to on top mean we can't do it before September. We've written a letter to the GP to see if she can give authorisation for an 8 week jab. 🤞

BonnyandPoppy · 24/05/2022 19:56

We just came back a week or so ago. We were asked at Hull ferry terminal if we had all been vaccinated but she specifically said she didn’t want to see the proof. After that not a single person asked or checked. We went hull to Rotterdam. Then stayed overnight in den Hague then drove to Germany and stayed there a few days. No border checks were around anywhere.
