To worry I’ve totally messed up our holiday

Going to France, Italy and Germany beginning Aug. I thought DD12 could get her 2 x vax 8 weeks apart, it turns out its 12 weeks. She had the first one today so will not be able to have the second one in time.... Holiday all booked and paid for, I was so sure it was eight weeks! Please, no snark about doing my research, does anyone know if this means we can’t go?

Sorry, Pfizer! My DH took her.

Thanks for Germany link. It does look as though that will be ok with a negative test.

The Netherlands do look as though she doesn’t meet their criteria though. We have a ferry booked there - I’d be quite anxious about risking it in case they did check.

What about the single dose Janssen vaccine?
We asked about this at the vaccination centre but only Pfizer is authorised for children here.

BonnyandPoppy · 24/05/2022 19:58

Oh and we came back via Calais Dover through Belgium and France as well. No checks anywhere

AlwaysLatte · 24/05/2022 20:01

We're going to Canada and US - both of which require 2x vax plus 2 weeks on top. Interested to hear of people have managed a walk in appointment at 8 weeks...

Blueblisters · 24/05/2022 20:04

Even if we could get the 2nd one early at 8 weeks, it takes 14 fucking days from then for it to be valid, which is too late.

Travelling to Netherlands: "Children under 18 travelling with their fully vaccinated parent(s) or legal guardian(s) do not have to be vaccinated themselves."

Your daughter does not need to be fully vaccinated if you both have.

Well then she wouldn’t have been eligible anyway when you originally booked thinking it was 8 weeks?

Why do you think this? We have just been there with an unvaccinated 12 year old, he didn't even need a test.

I know. I’m so angry with myself. I didn’t realise about the 14 days.

THANK YOU. i didn’t read as far as that bit. That does look ok. What a relief.

Still seeing conflicting stuff about Germany though, some websites saying a negative test will be ok and some saying not.

Does anyone know if there’s a border check between Germany and Holland by road?

According to the German entry requirements unvaccinated travellers over 12 can’t come in. We arrive from the UK into Holland by boat and I don’t think Holland will let her in either. Actually cannot believe this.

Holland should, there's a part in the Dutch website that says anyone under 18 travelling with a vaccinated parent is exempt. I also rang the travel operator who confirmed she will be fine as long as her parent is fully vaccinated. I'll attach the screenshot.

Dd actually couldn't have her second jab because she tested positive over Easter and can't have her second one yet. She doesn't have a recovery certificate because at the time there was no restrictions and she just told the one person she'd been in contact with and isolated over the holidays.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/05/2022 20:47

What's the schedule in Holland? Could you get her jabbed when you arrive?

Tiredalwaystired · 24/05/2022 20:59

AlwaysLatte · 24/05/2022 19:56

We're in the same boat!! My Dad died around the time that our 11 year old became eligible for the first jab. He's had it now but the 12 week wait for the second plus 2 extra weeks required by the country we're going to on top mean we can't do it before September. We've written a letter to the GP to see if she can give authorisation for an 8 week jab. 🤞

Does that mean your son will be 12 by Sept then? If he’s still under 12 I don’t think there will be a problem.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 24/05/2022 21:20

I know this purely anecdotal, but we flew to Germany last month and no one, either in the UK or at the German border control asked us for any covid documentation. It was a totally different experience to when we flew in December!

doradoo · 24/05/2022 21:26

You'll be really unlucky to be stopped on the DE/NL border - there are often police/customs parked just into Germany, but no actual checks.

Over the whole corona time I only know of one person being checked DE-NL and that was a UK car going back from Germany to NL, we cross weekly to put it in perspective.

Blueblisters · 25/05/2022 06:53

Thanks for sharing Germany experiences- very reassuring.

Unfortunately no, he turns 12 just before we were due to go, and the age 11 jabs were only made available last month.

givememarmite · 13/06/2022 16:43

@Blueblisters just wanted to let you know that as of 11th Kune all travel restrictions for entering Germany have been lifted, no longer need to be fully vaccinated to be (officially!) allowed in 😊

givememarmite · 13/06/2022 17:00

Or even 11th June!

NotMyDust · 13/06/2022 18:05

I'm in the same boat but f0r another country so I think we could get away with a test thank god. a vaccine does 2 would he preferable though. I can't ring our GP they're really not helpful.

op let me know if you were able to find someone to administer one to your kid, g99d luck x
