To take an 11 year old to a rock concert

I was a lot older when I went to my first concert and it was a relatively small venue.

My 11 year old wants to attend an arena rock concert (hard rock) with me (and I have a spare ticket) but I'm a little worried he may be a bit young, would you take an 11 year old to a rock concert?

Do it! He will have an amazing time. I have taken my child from 12 and they love it. Are Creeper supporting at your gig? They are brilliant, I'm jealous 😁

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 24/05/2022 18:52

We took ours. They loved it. Still talk about it. Just make sure to buy some proper earplugs - they are cheap enough on Amazon. and make sure he wears them. don't listen to people who say they have ear plugs behind the bars at the venues. They often don't. Children's ears are much more sensitive to damage than adults. Have a good time!

BigMamaFratelli · 24/05/2022 18:53

I'd take him. Although check your ticket- the last couple of gigs I went to had age restrictions- no under 14s for one, no under 16s at the other

jimboandthejetset · 24/05/2022 20:03

He'll have a blast, OP. I took my DS to his first gig when he was 8 and he loved it. We've got a few lined up for this summer and he's super-excited.
I'd only be happy in the seated section right now, but I think all the ones we have been to / are going to only allow over 14s in the standing area anyway.
I love the fact that my kids love music and am hoping that will continue and they'll be taking themselves in a few years time. Live music is one of life's absolute joys.

notacooldad · 24/05/2022 20:57

Based on the advice here I did check about entry, the venue have confirmed as it is all seated he'll be fine with entry
All seated gig? Seriously? Which venue?
I’m thinking about going to see them and haven’t decided which venue. I definitely don’t want to be sitting!

WatermelonSugarEye · 24/05/2022 21:01

God Yeah, by 11 mine had seen The Killers, Stereophonics, Imagine dragons and Stormzy.

Music is life.

kierenthecommunity · 24/05/2022 21:35

My DH took DS aged 9 to see Roger Taylor when his friend flaked out of going with four hours to go. We were supposed to be seeing Lindsey Buckingham with him last week but it was cancelled 😫 They were small venues though

DH is taking him to the Leeds Arena to see Quo later in the year

He’d love to see the Lancashire Hotpots but they’re usually in not seated/pub type venues which don’t allow children

kierenthecommunity · 24/05/2022 21:44

@WatermelonSugarEye my son would kill to see Imagine Dragons he adores them. I did look to get tickets for MK but they’d sold out.

He’s trying to learn Believer on his keyboard

hennaoj · 24/05/2022 21:54

Take ear defenders just incase. Just took my 11 year old with us to see Whitesnake, Foreigner and Europe last week. He had a great time but got tired towards the end. He had ear defenders on but we were seated right near the front and he's autistic. He saw Kiss when he was 9.
If he's not disturbed by mild horror then Alice Cooper should be fine.

Profanasaurusrex · 24/05/2022 22:54

Yanbu.
id love to take DC to a rock gig but nothing quite right has come up yet. She really wants to see Rammstein.
I’d just get him to wear ear plugs to protect his ears.

HerMajestyTheQuern · 24/05/2022 23:07

I see it’s the Cult, then no don’t take them. Saw them a few years back and they were over an hour late on stage and then completely awful!

SkiingIsHeaven · 24/05/2022 23:09

Sodie · 24/05/2022 10:17

Definitely. My 9yr old son is going to see Elton John next month.

He must have been really naughty to be given that punishment!

Twinsarehardwork · 24/05/2022 23:12

Oooh I’d take an 11 year old. I’ve seen Alice twice and lost count of the number of times I’ve seen The Cult. It’ll be awesome

Twinsarehardwork · 24/05/2022 23:14

@hennaoj how did you find it? I thought Coverdale was really struggling with his voice (Glasgow).

Honeyroar · 24/05/2022 23:18

I went to see The Levellers last week. There was a ten year old on either side of me! (not with me). Very excited to be at their first gig. Their parents had kept them away from the mosh pit and on the balcony.

I quite fancy the Cult tour. I just don’t know much Alice Cooper, so was put off.

spiderlight · 24/05/2022 23:18

It should be fine. We took ours to see Joe Bonamassa when he was 7, and by the time he was 11 he'd also seen Def Leppard and the Pretenders with us, amongst others.

barcodescanner · 24/05/2022 23:19

Absolutely I would. Took my son to see Kaiser Chiefs when he was 10 at Brixton and my daughter to see One Direction when she was 8.
I started going to gigs when I was 13 with friends. Didn't have to have an adult with you back then.

Check age restrictions first and enjoy. My cousin's going, wish I was

Floralnomad · 24/05/2022 23:32

My daughter has been coming to concerts since she was about 8 , she’s seen all sorts . I went to my first gig at 10 , with my 11 yo sister - my dad waited outside in the car - those were the days .

SleepingStandingUp · 24/05/2022 23:35

Glad you're taking him, seated I'd have no concerns at all. Admittedly my niece saw Olly Murs at this age but I'd have taken her to Alice Cooper if she'd asked😂

notacooldad · 24/05/2022 23:55

I see it’s the Cult, then no don’t take them. Saw them a few years back and they were over an hour late on stage and then completely awful!
That sounds like a bad one ofc6!
I've been seeing them for decades without issue. I did see them at Bearded theory 3 years ago and Ian Astbury started singing Rain while the band was playing shes sells sanctuary ( or something like that ) and realised he had ducked up. Laughed it off and then started again with the right song to the right music. That's been the only incident in over 30 years!!

notacooldad · 24/05/2022 23:56

Ducked up!! 😀auto correct doesnt like me swearing!

hennaoj · 25/05/2022 07:51

Twinsarehardwork · 24/05/2022 23:14

@hennaoj how did you find it? I thought Coverdale was really struggling with his voice (Glasgow).

It was great, his voice is different now. It will be as he's older but the only song from his new album really suits it. He deeper tones sound brilliant.

Rubyupbeat · 25/05/2022 08:08

Mine went from babies. Around 18months. They wore ear defenders, we went to mainly black metal, death metal festivals, some here, some Scandinavia. They loved it. I think the first stadium concert was at 2 and 4.
12 is easily old enough.

Rubyupbeat · 25/05/2022 08:14

@Profanasaurusrex
Rammestein are amazing live, We've seen them well over 10 times, better when they were not so well known and in small venues, you really felt the heat from their pyrotechnics.
Last time we saw them was at a festival and they were staying in the same hotel as us, rather comical seeing them come down for a full English the next morning.

Bickles · 25/05/2022 08:18

DS is nearly 10 and is coming to see Queen with us next week and Duran Duran in July. He’s very excited!
