Leaving parties

AIBU unreasonable to think that this is a photo from a perfectly ordinary leaving do and not understand what all the fuss is about.

Indeed in my place of work we had a very similar looking event a couple of weeks ago, for the first time in 30 months, even when the boss of many years left last year we didn't have drinks.

It was in lockdown.

It was in lockdown.

It was only a short party, and they were all working together anyway.

So? They made the rules and couldn't even follow them. My DH is a keyworker, was working with colleagues, the expectation was mask on at all times and keep your distance, not have a quick knees up.

It is important to remember that those in the picture had been working extremely long hours (sometimes as much as 2-3 hours since the last piece of cake) in the middle of a national crisis and I for one think it was good that their boss took some time out of his busy (holidaying) schedule to thank them for all the work that they had done in enriching his mates.

The photos look like any old regular work meeting to me.
Look at what is on the table, just your usual meeting paraphernalia.

Five open bottles of wine does kind of resemble my desk for a lot of lockdown.

Have you seen the photo of Keir's beer, there is even an empty on the window sill.

Oh jollidee. Another one of these threads. Does he send you to whip up some support himself or does his PA pass on the messages? Get a grip ffs.

Ducksinthebath · 23/05/2022 18:21

I think quite a heavy dose of irony has been totally lost on you @YeetTheTeets

NerrSnerr · 23/05/2022 18:22

I'd disagree with you OP but as a nurse we were having parties every day in the staff room that was closed because of Covid after our shifts. Just ask Boris' chum Fabricant

There's a war on you know, and it is important to focus on the job in hand.

It looks just like so many leaving do's and Christmas parties held in offices everywhere.

Just not in lockdown

I think this is the important point that so many people are missing. The primary purpose of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister is to socialise, it is essential for him to have several glasses of wine before he does any work, so his attendance at these parties is essential for work.

Are you deliberately being stupid??!

I worked in NHS f2f role throughout the first lockdown. We were initially denied permission to wear masks around symptomatic patients because it 'hindered communication' (there was no testing available at this point unless extremely unwell). This was followed by being told masks were compulsory in a hot unit with no air circulation and it was disciplinary action if we were to remove them.

Despite this, our staff room was closed so we had nowhere to eat lunch, we weren't allowed to have it at our desk as they couldn't facilitate us being 2m apart so we couldn't take off our masks. We weren't allowed to eat our lunch with those we worked with all day yet these clowns got to enjoy drinks together.

They have then rewarded themselves with a pay rise because they worked 'so hard' while leaving the rest of the country to suffer. We clearly exposed ourselves for shits and giggles

jgw1 · 23/05/2022 19:41

Are you deliberately being stupid??!

Nope, any stupidity is entirely unintentional on my part.

I actually suspect much of the government's policy is concocted when pissed.

It certainly would be much more concerning if they came up with things like send immigrants to Rwanda and lets make the poor ride around on buses to keep warm while sober.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 23/05/2022 20:21

They might have been working together all day but if they were following their own rules then they would have been wearing masks, social distancing and reduced the number of people allowed to work in each office. So the excuse they worked together meant the could party together is rubbish.

This was a party, during a period of national lock down where families couldn't have a cup of tea together let along share multiple bottles of wine together.

SofiaSoFar · 23/05/2022 20:21

You're not as funny as you think you are, OP.

ElenaSt · 23/05/2022 20:24

Anyone with a few brain cells can understand why they had a party in lockdown and were not remotely concerned about catching Covid.

Raera · 23/05/2022 20:35

Love it OP!
