DD eaten chicken without reheating- will she be ok?!

Sorry posting for traffic as I'm panicking a bit.

On Friday night I made chicken fajitas and there was chicken leftover so we put it in the fridge in a Tupperware. DD(15) has just informed me she was hungry so made herself a wrap with the chicken on, but didn't reheat it, just ate it cold from the fridge.

Please tell me this safe?! 🙈

yes

Momicrone · 22/05/2022 22:07

Have you never had a chicken salad or a chicken sandwich?

safer than if she'd reheated it poorly

lancsgirl85 · 22/05/2022 22:11

@SevenSeedsOfRye

Yes they do. They mostly don't talk about it though, because there are many ignorant fucks who make shitty comments about it. And since it usually stems from trauma - in my case, as a small child witnessing my mother vomit profusely in my presence before she died - the comments from the ignorant fucks are even harder to stomach.

What's your point? Of course they do. I was emetophobic long before I joined mumsnet.

TheKeatingFive · 22/05/2022 22:12

Whaaaaat?

You've never eaten cold roast chicken before? This place is always throwing up surprises.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/05/2022 22:13

What an insensitive comment.

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 22/05/2022 22:14

Coke chicken?? Heaven forbid! Best just to throw this child away and start again

I am so sorry. I have a friend who is similar and for similar reasons.

COLD CHICKEN 😱😱😱

I don't fancy it myself. I did tell DD it would have been nicer heated up, but there you go! This is what happens when she's left to her own devices in the kitchen ... 😂

You've never had a chicken sandwich or a chicken based salad Shock You are aware these things exist yes? How do you think they're made....?

LoveLarry · 22/05/2022 22:14

I've only ever eaten chicken hot. Cremated, in fact 😂 DP hates when I cook chicken as it's dry as a bone.

Well said OP

JayAlfredPrufrock · 22/05/2022 22:17

Hate to tell you but I think partially heating pre cooked chicken can be problematic.

lancsgirl85 · 22/05/2022 22:18

What's the theory behind partially reheated chicken being less safe than cold? Does anyone know? Seems counterintuitive somehow...?

OP posts:
titchy · 22/05/2022 22:24

Because chilling meat stops any small amounts of bacteria such a listeria from reproducing. Heating thoroughly will kill bacteria. Half heating means some parts of the meat will be warm enough for any small amount of bacteria to reproduce ferociously.

gavisconismyfriend · 22/05/2022 22:25

It’s the bacteria. Cold chicken safe, hot chicken reheated to 85 also safe. Warmed through chicken - perfect breeding ground for bacteria - they don’t like cold, they don’t like hot, but they LOVE warm! Warm chicken, reheated rice - 2 of the best ways to get food poisoning.

RewildingAmbridge · 22/05/2022 22:25

Bacteria thrive at warmish temperatures, cold fine, piping hot right through, fine, long enough to almost be warm, potentially iffy, but to be honest I am very laissez-faire about food , reheating, use by dates etc and never get ill from it and fwiw my mum is emetephobic and was terrible for panicking about things around food when I was young, it clearly hasn't rubbed off on me!

comealongponds · 22/05/2022 22:31

Cold cooked chicken is absolutely fine and a completely normal thing to eat.

your DC absolutely will pick up on your fears, you need to try and get it under control. Just because they don’t have your childhood experiences doesn’t mean they won’t get the same issues if they see their mum freaking out over stuff like this. That can be a different kind of trauma.
