The latest post on her instagram is a two minute video of her impersonating her therapist and I can't quite tell if it is genius (kind of comedy genius but then it is so traumatic that I'm not sure we should see it as a joke) or if it is something else.

OP posts:

Exactly. She's not mental just because she isn't sitting quietly in her box being kind.

@DolphinaPD

i don’t think anyone would want her “sitting quietly in her box” but there is a big difference between that and the uncontained mania she displays in the second half of that Instagram post

Nothappyatwork · 22/05/2022 16:48

was Demi Moore mentally unwell when she posed naked… and all those who went after her, Anne Hathaway et al.
If taking your kit off is a sign half of my friendship group would be rounded up 🙄 … the female half obviously

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 16:50

Where did she post that?

I thought she was taking the piss.

Probably out of threads like this, too.

I don't see why people should be pathologised, drugged or have their agency removed because their behaviour doesn't conform to what people consider societal norms.
She doesn't appear to me to be a danger to herself (she's a healthy weight and appears fit) and there's absolutely nothing to suggest she's a danger to anyone else. So what would you all have done to her? Someone to step in and drug her into submission?

Well, exactly. Taking away someone’s freedom and agency is MASSIVE. It requires a reason far bigger than ‘she’s behaving strangely’.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 22/05/2022 17:37

Hasn’t she just has a miscarriage? After being on forced contraception for 13 years?

lots of “if i was mentally unwell I wouldn’t be doing x,y,z” as if they are comparable to Britney Spears.

MissChanandlerBong80 · 22/05/2022 17:43

I have no doubt she’s mentally ill. Hardly surprising for someone who was so heavily sexualised by men all around the globe from such a young age.

CandyLeBonBon · 22/05/2022 17:58

Interesting take. There are often very compelling reasons why people who don't conform to societal norms might need their agency removed.

The problem is working out who, and how much of a threat they are, either to themselves, or others.

Britney Spears is reacting to years of an enforced conservatorship but it's understandable that people watching her erratic content are wondering what's fuelling it, where it's coming from, and more importantly where it's leading.

Arguably, constant exposure on social media is probably the least effective way to heal.

Scianel · 22/05/2022 18:02

But until there is any actual evidence, then she's an adult with agency. The snapshot we get from her social media posts may be of someone behaving a bit unusually or eratically, but it's absolutely nowhere near any sort of theshold for involuntary sectioning or treatment.

Quirkyme · 22/05/2022 18:20

Yeah putting it frankly, she is mentally unstable and has been for a long long time.

Before her miscarriage and everything prior, she has never actually looked okay on her Instagram I find it difficult to understand how people follow her.

As a Britney fan , from back in the day, I don't follow her because unfortunately she doesn't look well in her posts.

MyrrAgain · 22/05/2022 18:38

She could have been like this the whole time but we didn’t see it cause she didn’t have control of her media. So we don’t know if this is a deterioration or her normal.

orwellwasright · 22/05/2022 18:57

coffeecupsandfairylights · 22/05/2022 15:14

I find it really disturbing how many people support state conservatorship over other people.

Agreed. Nor can differentiate between a temporary intervention to protect someone who can not protect themselves and literally owning another person and forcing them to continue being your cash cow.

DashboardConfessional · 22/05/2022 21:53

DolphinaPD · 22/05/2022 16:35

Whys that? Because no one is making money off it/her?

I think that's her point/reasoning for posting them.

Er, no? I accept a lot of famous women like doing artsy fartsy pregnancy photoshoots to capture what their body looks like (temporarily) and they get paid a lot of money for them by Vogue or whoever. I was questioning the use of "celebrity mums" posing nude being the same, because she may be a mother of late teenagers but she is currently, sadly, not pregnant. Her grainy spontaneous nudes are nothing to do with being a "mum".

PixieLaLa · 22/05/2022 23:17

Oh F off she is clearly taking the piss! After hours of forced therapy I’m not surprised she feels that way….Also everyone is a little crazy but she gets massively over analysed, leave the poor women alone!

JetTail · 23/05/2022 07:27

It's criminal what her fucking father has done to her. Forced therapy. Forced treatment. Forced admissions. Not allowed to be herself! Jesus Christ. Have any of you ever felt controlled before? Did it upset you? At work? As a child? As a multi-millionaire sell-out star but apparently she can't make her own decisions? It would be insane if she just shrank into the background. Her life has been controlled permanently by her father. From the childhood star right through to the still successful mother.

JetTail · 23/05/2022 07:29

I would be going online taking the piss out of the forced therapy too!

JetTail · 23/05/2022 07:33

The world is made up of a myriad of different people. Some are conformist. Some get tattoos and piercings. Some become lawyers, doctors, some drink Dutch Gold and pick up a few quid from UC. There are stars, shrinking violets, wallpaper, idiots, fools, gobshites, geniuses, journalists, influencers, quiet, 'normal', shy, bubbly, 'strong', 'stable', nutters etc.. She is a star. Her father however falls into the cnut category.

JetTail · 23/05/2022 07:34

How terribly British to find nudity a sign of insanity!

Dreamstate · 23/05/2022 08:08

People should just leave her alone and stop judging her. She can do whatever she wants, if she wants to dance around half naked or post naked pictures who is anyone to say stop. Don't look at it, if you don't like it. Stop forcing people to fit into what you think is 'normal'.

I am just glad she is free to live her life as she wants to and make her own decisions.

mummabubs · 23/05/2022 08:32

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 22/05/2022 07:46

Can we PLEASE stop pathologising her? She has been under state sanctioned coercive control and abuse for 13 years. Her behaviour isnt "mental illness" it's a reaction to trauma. And what caused it? A haircut. And lashing out at a photographer.

Yes. All the above

GlitteryGreen · 23/05/2022 09:05

It’s quite clear from her declining mental health and manic episodes on social media that the conservatorship was very much needed.

I disagree with this.

I think Britney clearly does have her issues, probably combined mental health and trauma, but I wouldn't say she's hugely worse/more odd than a lot of other celebrities who would never even be considered for conservatorship.

I'd say that things that have come out about Johnny Depp have been far more extreme than anything Britney has posted on instagram, but it's just the way some people live.

Or more still - Amber Heard! Now that is one crazy lady!

GlitteryGreen · 23/05/2022 09:30

@JetTail Exactly! Both of them, and many other celebs whose lives and behaviour we would all consider massively dysfunctional if they were our friend or nextdoor neighbour.

I mean, even someone like Katie Price...in and out of rehab and court, child after child living in her derelict home, always causing drama with her exes....she is far more of an obvious danger to herself and others than Britney (from what we can see).

JetTail · 23/05/2022 10:08

It's horrific abuse of her. Who the fuck does her father think he is??? Jesus Christ. Let her live!
