DS just told me she’s a wee girl!!!!! I’m shocked

I hadn’t heard of this so googled and was struck by nearly everyone rating it a 10

JenniferBarkley · 22/05/2022 08:45

Bluey is excellent, watchable even without kids in the room.

But yes I thought she was a boy too - boys are always the lead, she's blue, looks like the dad. It's depressing really.

What's even worse is that even though I know she's a girl I can't stop myself saying he. Blush

Deargod89 · 22/05/2022 08:50

So if you look at the end it's actually produced by the Australian government and so much is about tackling stereotypes. The dad is always doing the washing and is super hands on. The mum is often seen going to work. The kids are girls etc. I think I have thought about it too much.

elephantmarchingin · 22/05/2022 09:02

We love Bluey here. I made the same mistake as you did and was corrected by DH and DS who looked at me like I was mad!
Again as Bluey is a carbon copy of her dad I presumed! Naughty me!!

Flavabobble · 22/05/2022 09:06

And there I was thinking Bluey was an Australian cop from the 70s.

MagnoliaPrimrose · 22/05/2022 09:06

I've only watched it a few times with dc, and never paid much attention, but I also assumed Bluey was a boy. Don't know why.

RibNSaucyArseCrack · 22/05/2022 09:10

Me and my husband also thought she was a boy until a few days ago!

TheGriffle · 22/05/2022 09:16

The first time I watched it I thought she was a boy. We love Bluey in this house too but some of the stuff the parents put up with/allow the girls to do is unrealistic!

Butchyrestingface · 22/05/2022 09:19

I had a budgie called Bluey as a child and he was definitely ALL MALE.

Changechangychange · 22/05/2022 09:21

DS5 refuses to accept she’s a girl Hmm

Bluey is great but is currently banned in our house because DS basically wants to re-enact every episode, and I am not playing fucking magic statues ever again.

NetflixMom21 · 22/05/2022 14:58

That’s definitely news to me… shows how much attention I pay to things 😬😂🤣

Crankley · 22/05/2022 15:00

A clue re what you're talking about would be nice for the uninitiated.

TooMuchBluey · 22/05/2022 15:04

I thought she was a boy when I first watched it too. But love the fact that both Bluey and Bingo are girls.

It's a great show! Definitely our favourite to watch with our 2 year old

Bluey is a cartoon about a family of dogs who live in Australia. Dad (Bandit), Mum (Chilli), and their two kids - Bluey and Bingo. It's basically about family life with small children but, like PPs said, it challenges stereotypes. It's focused on a child's perspective of the world but there's lots there for adult issues too (in one of the episodes Chilli feels like a shit mum when all the other babies are hitting milestones faster than Bluey).

It's ace, recommend watching it.

As an aside, the suburb in Melbourne where they live has property starting prices of roughly $1,000,000 and a house the size/layout of what they have would easily be around $2 million. There is no way they could afford it on Bandit's archaeologist salary (around $80,000 a year if full time which he doesn't appear to be) and Chilli's airport security salary (around $40,000 full time which, again, she doesn't appear to be). The only way they could afford it would be via nefarious means which isn't that much of a stretch when you realise that one parent has insider knowledge of where to find ancient (and valuable) artifacts and the other has knowledge of how to smuggle them out of the country.. ..

I love bluey but I also thought it as a boy until I read online it was a girl.

Favouritefruits · 22/05/2022 16:28

@Changechangychange we also play statues on loop, it was fine the first 50 times but after that it wears a bit thin, we also play veranda Santa ALOT!

Crankley · 22/05/2022 16:43

headofpotsandpans

I don't care enough to google it.

Oysterbabe · 22/05/2022 16:46

It's genuinely a fantastic cartoon that I'm happy to continue to watch when the kids have wandered off. The Baby Race one made me cry.

We play that too 🙄

andtheycalledthewindmoriah · 22/05/2022 17:45

Just asked my 6yo and she said 'two girls, a mum and dad, and their dogs'

Hortensiateapot · 22/05/2022 18:40

We have had to hide the "magic xylophone" in our house too.

But "bum worms" is our favourite episode Grin

Hospedia Grin Grin Grin

Just a word of warning for anybody old-fashioned like us who still uses DVDs and wanted to get some of this series (which they seem very slow to release in Region 2 format, for some reason): If you search for 'Bluey DVDs', you may just get results that have nothing to do with an all-ages cartoon about an Aussie dog family and which you most certainly would not want your kids to see....

I should have just saved time and said 'grey nomads' Grin
