Batshit Neighbours - how would you respond to this message?

carolinesfrog · 20/05/2022 12:01

This message is from the neighbours of a rental property my Mum has.

Neighbours HATE the tenants, who are perfectly lovely people. Neighbours like to complain a lot. Neighbours have sent this message.

How would you reply?!

Well is the tennant running a business from the property and if so do they have correct permissions?

Did someone visiting the tennant damage the neighbours property?

passport123 · 20/05/2022 12:03

This isn't an unreasonable query - does the tenant have permission and insurance to run a business from home? The thing full of stones is a bit odd!

Topgub · 20/05/2022 12:03

I wouldnt respond.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/05/2022 12:04

What sort of business are the tenants running? Maybe they need to be telling their clients to be more careful if they have managed to bump into something on the neighbours property?: I would respond to say that they will advise the tenants to ask their clients to drive with care?

YarnHoarder · 20/05/2022 12:06

Does your mum ever intend to move back in and therefore needs to keep a somewhat friendly relationship with BSN?

If not be blunt and say you won't be interfering with their legal use of her rental property. Don't get involved just keep repeating you won't interfere with their use of the property as they are legally allowed.

If it even did happen (which is unlikely) you'd just treat it like you would any other vehicle. Also unless they're the only 2 houses on that road with exceptionally low passing traffic then it could literally have been anyone.

Notagain76 · 20/05/2022 12:06

I'd say the tenants had also contacted you as was concerned their being watched/spyed on. Also check the tenant isn't running a illegal business.

Tulips21 · 20/05/2022 12:08

Not your Mum's problem if their car is hit.
if the tennant has the right things in place to run a buisness from property, then its also not the tennants issue if neighbours car hit.
If someone hits their car, then it is on that person to engage with neighbours re insurance ect!

carolinesfrog · 20/05/2022 12:09

They are two houses with a sort of V shaped shared drive, where each line of the V is the parking for each house if that makes sense.

She's not ever going to move back in.

He has form for complaining about them, he is a horrible racist and hates having "forren" people next door, basically.

This is the first Mum has heard about them running a business from the house though, so she does need to check on that with the tenant!

taylorsdoinapart · 20/05/2022 12:10

I don't think that's an unreasonable request. Are the tenants allowed to run a business from there? Don't know why they have stones on the drive but if someone's hit it for whatever reason I can see why the neighbour is annoyed.

But what is the request, that's what we don't understand and don't know how to respond to...!

Basilbrushgotfat · 20/05/2022 12:12

Not an expert but would assume the car hitting the cage of stones needs to be dealt with through neighbours insurance like any hit and run.

I'm going to assume your parents and the tenant have correct insurance and permissions etc for her running a business from home.

PuffinMcStuffin · 20/05/2022 12:12

The neighbour may be a horrible person otherwise but it does sound like they might have a point.

Alovelydayatlast · 20/05/2022 12:12

Suggest the tenant reports them for running a business from their address. They need permission and insurances..Suggest the tenant runs a free check on any vehicles they have concerns about. Details show the MOT and insurance status
. Then if no insurance the tenant can report to the police should they wish.
Suggest they stfu maybe?
*the tenant not the ndn.

Sorry, it's the tenant allegedly running a business!

taylorsdoinapart · 20/05/2022 12:14

Well, it's hardly a batshit message is it. It's at least alerted you to the fact that they're running a business from the property, which may or may not affect the owners insurance/mortgage etc. They're making the owners aware of potential issues.

LIZS · 20/05/2022 12:14

She needs to find out regarding any business and remind tenants that any visitors need to drive and park with due consideration to neighbours' property. Then reply saying she has done so.

DolphinaPD · 20/05/2022 12:14

I'd ignore it.

They presumably want to know whether the tenant has permission to run a business from home? You need the correct insurance as well as permission from the council - do they have all of that, and if not, why not?

As the landlord, your mum could get into trouble if her tenants are reported for illegally running a business from a domestic dwelling.

This. I can't see what all the drama is about. As the property owner this is exactly how they need to respond. It's a perfectly reasonable message.

Alovelydayatlast · 20/05/2022 12:17

Ring the council for advice.

Jessbow · 20/05/2022 12:19

Suggest the tenant reports them for running a business from their address. They need permission and insurances

What permission and insurances? From whom?

We run a business from Home, we dont have any special permission or insurances- maybe the tennant should have mentioned it to your but thats all.

100's of people run businesses from home, and you dont even know.

What is the nature of the tennants business? Find out befor she jumps in feet first

holdthepineappleextracheese · 20/05/2022 12:20

Game for a juicy batshit message…. But it seems reasonable to me

your mum needs to speak to the tenant

Sockpile · 20/05/2022 12:21

I agree that your mum needs to contact the tenants and remind them they need their clients to drive and park considerately.

It may only happen once a day or could be happening multiple times a day, I can see how it’s frustrating for the neighbours. I would also see if they have permission to run the business in a residential home.

holdthepineappleextracheese · 20/05/2022 12:22

Incorrect @Jessbow
if they are having lots of visitors they do need council permission

@carolinesfrog
"But what is the request, that's what we don't understand and don't know how to respond to...!"

I think they want your mum to pay to fix the Gabion cage as they've provided the size of it.
