Can you order contact lens online?

CornyContacts · 19/05/2022 22:01

I used to have a contract for monthly contact lens with Specsavers but I just can't keep up with their constant contact lens checks requirements. I know I should attend them but it's not easy for me to get to a store so every once in a while they stop delivery of my lenses till I can make the appointment again.

Anyway, is it possible to order them online? I think I have a prescription from last year or from 2020. Don't they need to check your eyes first for sizing or something?

My prescription is quite straightforward. I don't need tauric or any other speciality lens (though I am quite severely myopic)

Could you recommend a reputable online company please?

Thanks tons!!

Not without a contact lens check. They are compulsory. Annual, I think. Feels constant. I sympathise. I don’t wear mine every day so it’s a lot of extra faff for maybe 80-100 wears per year.

Sortilege · 19/05/2022 22:05

Should have said, I think it’s mainly eye health they are checking. So previous details won’t cut it.

CusheyButterfield · 19/05/2022 22:06

I buy mine online from daysoft.com

I still have regular eye tests, but I have to confess that I don't get regular contact lens checks.

Hugasauras · 19/05/2022 22:06

I use Vision Direct.

Discovereads · 19/05/2022 22:06

You can order contact lenses online. But any reputable seller abiding by basic safety regulations will require you to have a current prescription from an optician to do so. Most prescriptions last 1 year. So you would be endangering your eyesight if you plan to go years with no eye sight and health checkup and get contact lenses from the dodgy online sources.

Iamnotamermaid · 19/05/2022 22:07

Yes, try lenstore www.lenstore.co.uk/. You can order lenses direct from them...

NewPapaGuinea · 19/05/2022 22:07

You’ll need an in date prescription. What do you mean by their constant lense check requirements?

CusheyButterfield · 19/05/2022 22:08

I forgot to say - they're very reasonable and really comfortable.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 19/05/2022 22:08

I get mine from Boots Opticians and you get half price glasses.

ThorFull · 19/05/2022 22:13

I’ve just moved. There isn’t a Scrivens near me so I’ve ordered a few online from FeelGoodContacts. It was half the price of my lens plan. I have an up to date prescription and had a recent eye check. I think I’ll do this for a year then go back to an opticians as my eyes are complex and I know I need regular checks.

GNfan · 19/05/2022 22:13

I also use www.lenstore.co.uk/ordering-lenses-online
I order different prescription strengths, e.g some for if I'm going to the theatre, some for if I know I'll be at the computer all day. I've never been asked whether my prescription is current. I just enter in the numbers and they take my word for it.

RedSoloCup · 19/05/2022 22:21

My daughter has with Specsavers and they've never called her in for a check! Like 2-3 years now

CornyContacts · 19/05/2022 22:25

So how does it work with the eye checks? Do they ask you for proof that you've had your eyes checked?

I had a thorough eye check last year but I'm not sure o have any documentation from that.

Speaking as someone who has had an eye infection, please don't take the risk.

Your eyesight is worth the hassle of a 20 minute appointment every year.

TruthHertz · 19/05/2022 22:28

They only check once a year. If this is too frequent for you, then how regularly will you get your eyes checked if you have to arrange and pay for it yourself rather than just turn up at the appt.

You need an annual eye health check up to continue with your contract. If you are overdue for this checkup for a few months they stop delivery of your lens.. I'm not saying that they unreasonable to do this. Of course it makes sense to get your eyes checked regularly. I'm just saying that it's too difficult (or maybe just too much effort) for me to keep up with these appointments. I've been without Lens for over a year now and I don't want to go back to Specsavers to do the eye check just so they send me my lens.

Most prescriptions last 1 year.

No most last two years.

I would recommend getting contacts fitted and, then ordering what it says in the boxes.

I neve had any probs with daysoft.

Good point. Unless I'm forced to do it probably never.

But then I do get a thorough check whenever I think my prescription had changed so probably every few years.

You ought to be having an annual contact lens check regardless of where you get your lenses OP. Seriously, these are your eyes.

I’ve ordered my lenses on line for years (use Vision Direct currently) but always get the annual sight test and contact lens check.

MrsPnut · 19/05/2022 22:34

I order mine from vision direct, I have never had to upload anything since my initial prescription and I can order just what I need.
I do have an annual contact lens check but I can fit it around my schedule not when I need lenses.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 19/05/2022 22:34

Even purchasing online you need to have a recent contact lens eye health check and honestly if anywhere isn't asking for that they are dodgy and should be avoided.

I'm banned from contact lenses, opticians will not sign me off for them because I'm severely visually impaired in one eye, infections are more prevalent in contact lens wearers, infections can cause blindness and no optician will take the risk of me losing sight in my good eye and ending up legally blind.

Furbaby2842 · 19/05/2022 22:34

I use feel good contacts. You don't have to enter the date of your last lens check. Delivery is quick and they send a little packet of haribo too!!

Wherehasthecommonsensegone · 19/05/2022 22:35

You can order online if you have a prescription. They don’t check it, you just need to put the details in.

I use Lenstore or Feel Good Contacts. I usually put my contact lens brands into google and then go with one of those two based on who has them on offer as usually one if not both will have 10% off if I access via google.

If you have an up to date prescription then definitely worth it. If your last eye test was 2020, I’d get one first then order online.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 19/05/2022 22:35

Daysoft are the ones to go for. You don't have to prove that you've had a checkup Nd they are the most comfortable I've ever used in over 30 years of wearing lenses.

I might still have an old box of my.specsavers lens. It wouldn't be older than a year. Could I use that?

Also if I use the prescription, I know that the values they use for contact lens are slightly different to what they use for glasses if I send the prescription would the online optician adjust the value required for the lens automatically or do I need to calculate that?
