To think women can "get rich easy" compared to men?

This is more of is HE being unreasonable.

My male colleague said to me earlier that he wishes he were female because then he would be rich. He seems to think women can just show off their bodies and get rich. He always tells me I should get on OnlyFans as I'd make a killing. Or be an Instagram "influencer".

I can see his point in a way but I don't think it's as simple as that. First of all, I wouldn't make an OnlyFans account, and second of all, even if I did, I highly doubt I'd be able to generate any traffic as I don't have a big social media presence as it is.

As for being an influencer, there are so many good looking women out there who post on Instagram and the majority AREN'T influencers, nor do they make a living or even any money out of it.

Am I being naive or is he?

A lot of men fail to understand that getting money/advantages from your looks isn't some sort of female superpower. Even if you have those looks, not that many women want to basically put themselves out there as a sexual performer, leaving them vulnerable to weirdos and stalkers.

Libertaire · 19/05/2022 16:54

He has got a point, in that Only Fans’ success has demonstrated that millions of men are prepared to pay good money to look at images of naked women but women have more sense than pay to look at men.
The flaw in his argument is that only the top few % of women actually earn significant sums on OF, and those who do work hard for their cash, so it’s nonsense to suggest they can ‘get rich easy’.

PetersRabbitt · 19/05/2022 16:54

So get on onlyfans and sell your body or get on Instagram and sell your soul!!! Nice!!

Men can get rich without having to sell anything.

123ROLO · 19/05/2022 16:58

Perhaps not only fans. But making money online really isn't a female specific thing.

I know a man who makes a killing through YouTube and a patreon account by just uploading reaction videos to watching old movies or TV series.

I know of a man in his early 20s who streams himself playing video games, he's made enough to get on the housing ladder and have a flash car.

I reckon he is just recognising the women more, that and being extremely sexist.

StaunchMomma · 19/05/2022 17:16

What a chauvinistic div he is!!

What, so because he classes you as attractive you're supposed to get your baps out for strangers online?!! Is he mental?!!

I have nothing against women who have OnlyFans pages but it takes a certain type of woman (a confident one, for starters!) and for them to really want to do it.

It also takes a certain type of man, A DICKHEAD, to come out with shite like that - particularly at work!!

Risky conversation, that. I can see him having issues with HR in future!!

Echobelly · 19/05/2022 18:58

Also, for any man who says women can make money easily, ask him to ask some female business founders with great ideas and track records how easy they found it to get any funding... especially compared to how it is for some mediocre white dudebros...

namechangedtoday22 · 19/05/2022 20:38

I work in a small civil engineering firm. Unfortunately this is typical behaviour within a lot of the construction industry. And being a small firm, there is no HR department. I wouldn't say I "allow" the conversations to happen, they just happen. I listen but don't engage. The last thing I need is conflict in a very male dominated environment.

I agree. He's a pig, for sure, but he's correct.

spirit20 · 19/05/2022 20:53

Please show this guy all of the men earning money on only fans by doing gay porn and suggest he follows their lead. Then point out that actually to do that he'd need to be somewhat good-looking.

QueenCamilla · 19/05/2022 21:13

Incel at his best

Stealth boast much? Grin

My first thought😂

I do see his point tbh. Look at those WAGs. It's rare you get a super rich woman marrying a poor man.

This isn’t making the point you think it is 🤣

orwellwasright · 19/05/2022 22:01

Lol. He's an incel and you need to stop internalising misogyny.

FinallyHere · 19/05/2022 22:03

just show off their bodies and get rich.

I am seriously, hardcore feminist but that really does make me laugh out loud.

Is there anything about him that suggests his body would be worth that much?

There is no money on earth that would persuade me to get money in that way. Fortunately I have not been cursed with that kind of body either but mostly it's because I don't like the idea of that kind of relationship.

User0610134049 · 19/05/2022 22:05

I’m really not sure that conversation was worth the thinking and typing time that you put into it

josil · 19/05/2022 22:15

Not sure why people are so offended - sadly it's true that women can get rich by doing these types of work.

If women stopped doing it maybe he wouldn't be making the point.

josil · 19/05/2022 22:16

However I will add he is still being a bit a dick. You could say to him why doesn't he start a business and make a killing like so many other businessmen? See how he would like that one

If men stopped providing a willing audience maybe women would stop doing it.

tttigress · 19/05/2022 22:19

Have you considered a new job, to get away from your "colleague".

Pawtriarchal · 19/05/2022 22:20

Well he’s sitting at work, getting paid for sexually harassing you. So I’d say it’s still a man’s world.

josil · 19/05/2022 22:20

@orwellwasright just because there's an audience doesn't mean you should do something.

I'm sure there's an audience wanting to see many things doesn't mean you do them because there's an audience.

Ottersmith · 19/05/2022 22:34

There's a market for gay porn too. Why doesn't he strip off and show everyone his dick and balls? Has he heard of the gender pay gap or of women's unpaid work load? Dick.

LicoricePizza · 20/05/2022 04:35

Tbh it sounds like he’s bringing it up as an way of commenting on your looks & body. Telling you he has thought about your body in an Only Fans way. You may find this flattering or you might find it sexist, unnecessary & typical of usual male discourse. What’s stopping him using his body to cater to other male or female appetites/fetishes/& or do porn too online? Why is that not even a question therefore it’s perfectly acceptable for you? He’s sexualising your conversation IMO. You may enjoy it though & see it as harmless/a compliment.

TorringtonDean · 20/05/2022 09:16

Revolting man. Report him to HR, it’s harassment.

Antarcticant · 20/05/2022 09:20

A case of unattractive women being invisible to this man - as, indeed, we so often are. Even in my prime (such as it was) I didn't have the sort of body anyone would pay to look at.
