Did your kids start sleeping through? We are only three weeks in but im already dreaming of the day when dd will stop feeding every few hours, then spend the same time again fussing before going back to sleep! She is formula fed so hoping as she gets bigger she will have bigger feeds and sleep for longer periods. How old were yours when they started doing this?

Also what age were they when you introduced a bedtime routine? We are still very much in the newborn haze but I'm craving some routine and structure already.

DD was sleeping through at 4 months. DS on the other hand didn't sleep through until he was 2 years.

12 weeks !

The trick is to get enough milk in them in the day and eek it out at night !

TokenGinger · 14/05/2022 12:14

He was about 2.5 years. He still does wake but that's to get into our bed then dozes off again.

Pyewhacket · 14/05/2022 12:15

12 weeks, all three of them.

MumFromDownUnder · 14/05/2022 12:25

Both of mine suddenly started ‘sleeping through’ at about 8 weeks - by which I mean last feed was around 10pm and then they would sleep
till 6ish. By 12-14 weeks both were sleeping 7-7. Both were breastfed.

Pootle40 · 14/05/2022 12:26

Both consistently from 9 months. Not much before that.

Svara · 14/05/2022 12:30

DS slept through (about 11 hours) at two and a half when I nightweaned him and moved him to his own bed. Before that he was 'waking' to breastfeed every couple of hours (no fuss, just feed then sleep).

Stickworm · 14/05/2022 12:31

1st woke about 6 times a night until age 2, then about 2/3 times a night until 5. Finally sleeping through.

20 month old wakes once or twice.

Fizbosshoes · 14/05/2022 12:34

First child: 6 years
Second child: 6 months

I don't have a favourite child but....😂

rainbowandglitter · 14/05/2022 12:38

Ds was 5 weeks old. He still loves sleep now and I get him up about 11am on weekends at age 12.

Flumo · 14/05/2022 12:44

My 2 year old still doesn't sleep though 😖

ladygindiva · 14/05/2022 12:45

Definitely varies. My 3 dc slept through approx 7/8 to 7 reliably (without dream feed!) at about 8 weeks, 6 months and about 13 months. And I don't think you can do much to affect it tbh!

RollOnWinter · 14/05/2022 12:46

My sons (now 40 and 38) didn't sleep through the night until they started nursery! I was permanently knackered.

YouHaventDoneAnyWork · 14/05/2022 12:46

From 6 weeks they were in a routine of waking every 3-4 hrs for feeds but very quickly went back to sleep. This dropped to 2 night feeds and then 1. EBF and I went back to work FT at 11 months. By 14 months sleeping though with no feeds and minor sleep training (ie. I stopped giving feeds at night). I could have done that from 12 months but with going back to work just left it a bit longer.

so whilst technically it was 14 months, I was literally up for say 15-20 mins twice a night from 4 months and personally didn’t feel tired by that as I wasn’t at work and otherwise easy baby who slept a lot.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 14/05/2022 12:53

7 and counting? OP every baby is different, definitely get a routine going but don't get your hopes up. You do get used to it and it does get easier. Babies are meant to wake up and it won't last forever.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 14/05/2022 12:53

6 years old

BiscuitLover3678 · 14/05/2022 12:54

Still waiting with my 2.5 year old but I has got a lot easier. You learn and adapt.

BiscuitLover3678 · 14/05/2022 12:54

Most people don’t sleep through, baby or adult. You learn ways to make it work :) just do a month at a time op and do what feels right with you and your baby.

easyday · 14/05/2022 12:55

I think properly from about six months. It definitely improved after the three month mark, though my son was always fairly easy to get down and after waking for a sleepy feed at about 11pm only woke once after that, though he was an early riser (if he made it to 6am that was a good day).
My daughter much harder to get down but once she discovered her thumb at three months that resolved itself.

snowday01 · 14/05/2022 12:56

Both DS started sleeping through around 15/16 months, this is also the age they both moved to 1 nap for slightly longer (1.5 hrs) in the day - it was all very strange, up constantly at night and total nap refusal unless being held from birth - 16 months then overnight good sleepers - although DS2 is a very early riser around 5am but I will take that over every 2hrs at night!

DeePlume · 14/05/2022 12:58

First one 8 weeks, second 5 years!

TenoringBehind · 14/05/2022 13:03

Ds1 about 20 weeks
ds2 4 years 9 months (and still not reliably then)

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 14/05/2022 13:05

15 months ish but still get some night wakings now at 2

TenoringBehind · 14/05/2022 13:05

I introduced a routine at 16 weeks with ds1 (and ds2 from day 1, having to fit in with ds1, small age gap). It was a godsend for me as I like routine.
