To consider female sterilisation..

Posting here for traffic really!

I'm so sick of birth control. Tried everything other than coils (I'm way too much of an anxious person to cope with always knowing there was this plastic thing inside me!). Currently on the mini pill, but have 4-5 week periods followed by a couple of weeks off. Been on it 15 months now. It's also killed my sex drive.

Any experiences with sterilisation/tubes tied?

I have the mirena coil and no periods so great but it's fucking painful putting it in but go for it, if you don't want kids why not?

Alloftheusernamesaretakenn · 13/05/2022 21:04

You won’t get it on the NHS in a lot of areas now - they’ll fund male sterilisation but only offer LARC (implant, coil) in women. I rage about it regularly!

Exactly this.

They will consider it if another baby is a threat to life only according to my doctor, I’ve been refused twice despite having numerous medical issues and actually nearly dying in childbirth.

If I was male, it wouldn’t be a problem.

PartyPlan · 13/05/2022 21:08

I had it done recently during a c section. Really pleased I went through with it so far. It’s a shame the NHS isn’t funding it more.

Furrbabymama87 · 13/05/2022 21:09

I had it done at 29 but I had had 4 c sections and had it done during the last one. I have never regretted it. The downside is heavier more painful periods but its worth it to shag worry free and not have to think about contraception.

BlueIvy11 · 13/05/2022 21:10

Another child is a dangerous for me. I've had the implant in for years and have been waiting about 2 years to be sterilised. Pill makes me really sick, I have ovarian cysts so not allowed the coil. I'm also allergic to latex. I have now got an out of date implant in my arm as nobody available to change it. I hope you have more luck than I have had!

THNG5 · 13/05/2022 21:10

I had my tubes cut during my third c section. Unfortunately, I was the 1 in 200 for who it didn't work and got pregnant again.

the80sweregreat · 13/05/2022 21:11

I was so lucky to be offered this procedure in 1998 , NHS. A practice nurse suggested it to me and I thought it sounded a great idea. I had two children and didn't want anymore and I knew that Dh would not have had a vasectomy.
I often think I might have been put off if the internet had been around then , but I just went with it back then and it was fine. I was ok after a few days and just got on with it.

Noo, please don't say that.. It was my last resort 😫

I'm another one refused sterilization due to funding not being available. DP got a vasectomy within eight weeks of asking. Its an absolute travesty.

Omg don't. How long did it take you to get pregnant again? I had clips on mine rather than cut.x

Furrbabymama87 · 13/05/2022 21:18

That was to THNG

Minniem2020 · 13/05/2022 21:36

I've just had our last baby recently and myself and dp have just been discussing permanent options. I hadn't realised that it was so difficult to get this on the NHS now

InChocolateWeTrust · 13/05/2022 21:38

Posting as I'm thinking about this too. Don't mind paying for private if needed but wanted to know more about side effects/risks.

Hate all hormonal contraception & condoms do kill the moment don't they

I had my tubes removed after my second, during the section, and have had heavier periods too. Is this a thing? Also ovulation pain now too.

But, I'd do it again in a heart beat, so so freeing knowing we can have sex without any worries of surprise babies!

gunnersgold · 13/05/2022 21:42

The nhs ain't do it anymore , try a copper coil . No hormones

This is why I had mine cut out in their entirety 🤣🤣🤣

Giggorata · 13/05/2022 21:43

I had it done in my early thirties and it was excellent. No pills, no paraphernalia, no pregnancy.
I did have to argue forcefully that it was what I wanted, to get it on the NHS.
Hearing that they sterilise men and not women nowadays makes me angry.
It is couplethink.
I am the one who may get pregnant, not my partner. It solves his contraception problem, but not mine.

Lilbunnyfufu · 13/05/2022 21:54

I'm so angry that it's not easier to get our tubes tied I asked after our 2nd baby and was told I needed to be 35 or over for it to be considered. So I went on the depo injection and asked again when I was 35 got told no.
I fell pregnant with our 3rd while on the depo injection.
Was meant to have a section with 3rd and have tubes tied well that didn't happen has he arrived naturally the morning the section was due.
So after the birth I asked about having tubes tied again and was told I could have the coil fitted.
Well the coil has failed and I'm 11 weeks pregnant now.

WhateverIdo · 13/05/2022 22:20

I had mine done last year, didn't need to beg, short waiting list. It's very clearly location dependant.
I have zero regrets. No issues at all.

Imohsotired · 13/05/2022 22:25

My consultant offered it as part of my planned c-section last month. The 1/200 odds are still too high for my comfort so I don’t think it’s enough on its own so DH will be going for vasectomy.

nildesparandum · 13/05/2022 22:32

I had my tubes tied(may have been removed I was never told) 50 years ago next month during my second c -section. I was 28 years old then and had almost died in childbirth having my first one.
It certainly worked.

Ask for bilateral tubal salpingectomy, that's where they remove both tubes entirely, not just cut or tied. It's been linked to a big reduction in ovarian cancer too, which is great. Glad I had mine during my section.

ChickensandCows · 13/05/2022 22:48

Just use condoms maybe? That's all we do and are extra careful with them.

ChickensandCows · 13/05/2022 22:48

Or male partner had the snip.
