If money was no issue, what work would you do?

Stressful week at work!

I think I’d set up a little food business/buy a small cafe and do a ‘one meal feeds two’ idea where one person’s regular priced meal funds a second one for someone in need. Obvs wouldn’t be profitable so hence the ‘money not being an issue’

I think I'd do a consultancy version of what I do now, so I could pick and choose to only work with really interesting clients on a good day rate, meaning I would only need to work here and there. I'd volunteer for some causes that support the local community too.

ExMachinaDeus · 13/05/2022 19:41

I'd still do the job I do now, minus some of the onerous admin bits. If money were no object, I'd have a PA-come-housekeeper to organise my paperwork, pay my bills, organise & tidy my house, put my papers & books in order and do my ironing.

ButtockUp · 13/05/2022 19:45

Reading for the Blind.
Going to their homes, reading any mail.
Reading anything they'd like me to.

Thinking of taking this up very soon.

LillethCrane · 13/05/2022 19:45

A year ago I would have said the job I have now. It looked like a dream on paper! And actually, when I’m doing it, I love it. But my anxiety seems to overwhelm me every morning before I leave home and I don’t know how to get over the imposter syndrome. If I could, I would adore going to work each day!

If money was no option though, I’d own a bookshop. Simple.

ExPatHereForAChat · 13/05/2022 19:45

Those saying that they would work with animals; it ain't all it's cracked up to be! You're often left to deal with the snappy, anti social, anxious pets. Owners expect a lot for not much money. Obviously you'll meet some lovely pets, but it won't all be cuddling puppies and kittens.

I wouldn't work but would definitely own lots of my own (perfectly well behaved!) pets.

Aniita · 13/05/2022 19:46

Guide/hearing/therapy puppy boarder.

LillethCrane · 13/05/2022 19:47

Or, I would volunteer in a prison, teaching inmates how to read. I’d love to do that.

rosegoldivy · 13/05/2022 19:47

I'd work really hard at doing fuck all 😂😂😂

PuzzledObserver · 13/05/2022 19:47

I’m sort of doing this…..

I retired (very) early last year. After about six months of uninterrupted leisure, I started volunteering for a charity which provides community transport for older and disabled people who struggle to access public transport. I take people to appointments, shopping etc, using my own car. I also do a few hours in the office, putting jobs on the computer, allocating them to drivers (including myself - I get to choose), phoning clients to tell them who their driver is etc.

At first I just did everything they asked me to unless we actually had something in the diary. Then I wised up. So now I do 2 days a week roughly 9-4. I get to drive (which I love) and since we’re semi rural the traffic is usually fairly light. I get to meet interesting people - and any I don’t like, I can always make sure I don’t take them again. I get expenses for all my mileage.

If I’m too busy one week I just say I’m not available, and there’s no limit to the number of holidays I can take. And if I get totally fed up with it, I can just pack it in.

Aposterhasnoname · 13/05/2022 19:53

Either a tour guide or something to do with dogs. Not sure there’s much call for a guided tour of Rome, accompanied by dogs, but if there ever was, I’m your woman.

goingback · 13/05/2022 20:07

write a blog called "My Week in ...." for the rest of my days

UggyPow · 13/05/2022 20:09

@Antarcticant I am a dog walker, just do it - it is physically hard work but you will love it.
If money was no object I wouldn’t ‘work’ as I am also a carer

Antarcticant · 13/05/2022 20:13

I'd love to, @UggyPow but I don't think I could do it on a large enough scale to to pay my mortgage etc. Sad

Enidcat5 · 13/05/2022 20:18

I work in animal rescue and I love it! I wouldn't want to do anything else

Colourmeclear · 13/05/2022 20:20

Psychologist. I already have a degree in a completely unrelated topic so would have to fund myself but can't afford it.

Itshothothot · 13/05/2022 20:28

I would own a barefoot shoe shop for children

childrens shoe shops are a dying breed so I don’t think it would be very profitable but it is something I would love to do

PBJTime · 13/05/2022 20:33

Cat rescue. I'd love to it just don't have the space!

Shinyandnew1 · 13/05/2022 20:33

I am a primary school teacher, but I’m the verge of quitting after twenty years because, despite loving being with the children, I have come to hate the rest and sadly, that ‘rest’ is the majority of the job now.

I would like to work in an EYFS class or nursery, but volunteering. I don’t want to be writing up any pupil observations, filling in forms or dealing with PMRs or Ofsted, I just want to be working with the children.

RadFad · 13/05/2022 20:35

Being paid to read books would be pretty sweet.

CMeredithC · 13/05/2022 20:36

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 13/05/2022 19:06

My exact same job but I’d move to live a 5-10 min cycle ride away, with all the money that is no object.

This (but a 15-20 min walk for me please). I’m a professional musician - classical - and it doesn’t feel like work, it’s what I love doing, all day long. But I’d like to reduce my commute, and be able to afford much better clothes for all the concerts I have to play. Designer suits, you said? why thank you…

teleskopregel · 13/05/2022 20:36

Start up and perform with a chamber music ensemble.

carefullycourageous · 13/05/2022 20:37

Maybe go back to campaigning.
Or be a tour guide at our local beauty spot.
Or I could do a PhD into something obscure.

flumpadump · 13/05/2022 20:41

I would probably set up some kind of service that spent time chatting to and helping elderly/ vulnerable people that had no friends and family.

FusionChefGeoff · 13/05/2022 20:41

TA in Reception or Year 1

MassiveSalad22 · 13/05/2022 20:43
