So baby brain has hit. Walked from the shop after the school run (9am) with a lovely tub of Ben and Jerry's for me to enjoy later 😃 then went to pick up son from nursery (11am) and realised it was still in my bag 🤦 it felt soft when I squeezed it. Still sealed.

I have to chuck it don't I 😭

After two hours it won't be a food hygiene risk, but it will be a quality risk - it just won't go back to the same texture it once was.

From a food hygiene law perspective you can leave something out for a maximum of 4 hours before needing to bin it.

There’s egg already in the ice-cream, but you could add a couple it won’t hurt.

You can get Listeria from melted ice cream but a lot of people are unaware of that. Obviously you could probably get away with it but it's not a risk that I'd take.

I'm also 21
Weeks pregnant and I would certainly eat it.

Aw no, OP, that's such a shame! Do you have an Aldi nearby? Their Chunky Monkey ice cream is similar to Phish Food. Admittedly, it's not AS good as Phish Food but it's still lovely and only about £1.50, if I remember rightly.

Yes throw it away. This happened to me. I refeeezed it. Ruined the texture and taste.

frogleap · 13/05/2022 17:14

I think if you try and eat it you'll realise what chemical crap it is and not worth the potential food-poisoning!

Am so confused by this thread, melted ice cream is delicious. Make it into a milkshake or a hot chocolate. I actually prefer my ice-cream semi-melted and eat it like this all the time. Don't throw it away, it's a waste!
(I do agree that you can't re-freeze it though, it goes grainy)
