To ask if I HAVE to throw defrosted ice cream away (and I am pregnant)

So baby brain has hit. Walked from the shop after the school run (9am) with a lovely tub of Ben and Jerry's for me to enjoy later 😃 then went to pick up son from nursery (11am) and realised it was still in my bag 🤦 it felt soft when I squeezed it. Still sealed.

I have to chuck it don't I 😭

I will add I am 21 weeks pregnant.

I wouldn't eat it. Once I bought an ice cream that was kept in dodgy freezer in a shop and I had food poisoning. You're pregnant, so I wouldn't risk it.

catscatscatseverywhere · 13/05/2022 13:06

Unless you decide to eat ice cream soup now, then it's fine. Just don't freeze it again.

EverydayIsPJday · 13/05/2022 13:06

I know the answer but I'm slightly crushed. Ffs. My only joy after a very shitty week at work.

Apart from potentially making you ill it will never go back to being the lovely texture ice cream it once was. You'll have to chuck it.

CutesyUserName · 13/05/2022 13:07

Yes. I certainly wouldn't eat it once it's been defrosted for 2 hours. I had food poisoning from defrosted ice-cream years ago when I didn't know any better. Re-froze it, ate it and was sick as a dog. I learnt my lesson not to risk it. Sorry, Ben and bloody Jerry's too!

godmum56 · 13/05/2022 13:08

I agree....slurp it up but don't refreeze

EverydayIsPJday · 13/05/2022 13:08

😭 life can be cruel sometimes. What a waste of money.

Ah, that’s a shame - go and buy yourself another one!

EverydayIsPJday · 13/05/2022 13:10

Honestly, it was a ray of hope for the end of the week when basically you can have no sodding treats as a pick me up alcohol

OP posts:
EverydayIsPJday · 13/05/2022 13:11

I could but that would make it a very expensive treat. I only brought it as it was on offer tbh.

Ah well. Thanks for confirming in any case. I will let my husband walk it to the bin 🤣😭

heldinadream · 13/05/2022 13:21

Stop! What flavour? Make it into a hot cocoa/caramel/whatever drink - if you boil it it'll be fine AND STILL DELICIOUS.
And go and buy some vanilla ice-cream and pour the hot stuff on as a gooey sauce.

CorsicaDreaming · 13/05/2022 13:22

@heldinadream - love your emergency ice cream rescue post solution 🤣

StrangeCondition · 13/05/2022 13:23

Just get a straw and have it that way, like a milkshake, add a bit of ice if it's still a bit warm - no need to chuck it

heldinadream · 13/05/2022 13:24

@CorsicaDreaming I can't bear the waste of quality ice-cream, if it was cheap muck I'd be like meh. 😂

EverydayIsPJday · 13/05/2022 13:24

Phish food 😭

Any boxed cake mix in the house?

Beat the melted ice-cream with three eggs, add to cake mix and bake per box instructions.

catscatscatseverywhere · 13/05/2022 13:25

Maybe make some frapuccino? Or some shakes? So you won't have to put it to the bin.

posalie · 13/05/2022 13:27

What on earth! This has happened to me many times and I've never thrown it away! Drink it! Or heat up and use as sauce as pp says. No bin 🙅🏻‍♀️

RestingPandaFace · 13/05/2022 13:29

You can’t refreeze it and eat it, but you could either

make it into a milkshake, or
pop it in a bowl, throw about 150g self raising flour in it and mix it all together, then into a greased cake tin and bake it like a cake at 180.

Cherryblossoms85 · 13/05/2022 13:31

If you weren't pregnant I'd say go for it, certainly from a health point of view. I used to sell ice cream from a stand that always caught the afternoon sun, so when there were no customers, I would sit under a tree eating the melted stuff I couldn't sell (yes, best job ever). Problem is, it's horrible when it's fully melted and then refrozen.

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 13/05/2022 13:31

Do you have a straw? Lovely ice cream milkshake. Sorry for your loss.

CorsicaDreaming · 13/05/2022 13:34

@RestingPandaFace - no eggs?

TakeMeToYourLiar · 13/05/2022 13:37

www.benjerry.com/flavors/recipes/bake-cake-with-pint

this will work even if it’s melted. It’s pretty goid

or add milk and make a serious milkshake.
