I’m an adult but hate wasting anyones time so I’m asking mumsnet for their opinions. AIBU for considering a and e?

I’ve had an ear infection for eight weeks: my ear is incredibly swollen, leaking pus and blood daily and smells like fish. (sorry TMI).

In the past 6 weeks I’ve has 5 doses of antibiotics, and steroid drops and it’s remained the same. My ear is still as it was eight weeks ago.

My GP has done an urgent referral to ENT but this is nine weeks away even as urgent referral.
I went to my GP a few days ago and was given another set of antibiotics and sent on my way.

But the issue is I’m getting even more poorly over the past day, my glands in my mouth have now swollen, saliva glands and it’s hard to swallow, my ear is still swollen and red and bleeding, and I’m shivering and clammy, waking up with wet hair and a wet back with sweat. I’ve also slept 15 hours but I can barely keep my eyes open at work. I don’t have a temp however.

im just a loss of what to do, I’m feeling so unwell within myself I can hardly function and do my normal activities but I cannot bear a 6th sent of antibiotics, and without a temp, I doubt they’ll do anything:

Does anyone have any advice? Even ibuprofen isn’t touching the sides.’

I would go to A&E, the infection may have spread.

howler21 · 12/05/2022 16:01

Please, please go to A&E right now OP! The infection is clearly spreading and could reach your brain, you also may be developing sepsis.

Greenqueen40 · 12/05/2022 16:01

Go go go!!!

howler21 · 12/05/2022 16:03

A&E won’t mess around with potential sepsis.

BlanketsBanned · 12/05/2022 16:03

I agree, you should go to hospital but do not drive, get someone to take you.

Notanotherwindow · 12/05/2022 16:05

You need to go, this is potentially the start of sepsis.

steppemum · 12/05/2022 16:06

I was in two minds until I got to where you said how much worse you have been over the last day or so.
The oral antibiotics are not enough, it sounds as if you need intravenous antibiotics, and you could possibly have sepsis.

Go to A&E

BingeBitch · 12/05/2022 16:07

yes go to a&e sounds awful, get well Op.

Ladywiddio · 12/05/2022 16:08

Of course go to AandE,go now.

Wishing you well OP.

steppemum · 12/05/2022 16:09

I think I am right in saying that low temp but evidence of fever = sepsis.

So the fact you have no fever is actually one of the signs

bloodywhitecat · 12/05/2022 16:09

Go. Good luck, I hope they can sort you out

tootsierubs · 12/05/2022 16:11

A&e now, this is serious!

urrrgh46 · 12/05/2022 16:11

Yeah - you need to go to A&E.

MintJulia · 12/05/2022 16:11

A&E now. They won't mind.

CaptainCallisto · 12/05/2022 16:11

Hardly being able to keep my eyes open, shivery and sweating is exactly how I presented when my dental infection spread (during lockdown when I couldn't see a dentist for weeks after my filling cracked) and I ended up with sepsis. Definitely A&E!

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 12/05/2022 16:11

Please go straight to A&E. It sounds like sepsis.

Namechangenora52 · 12/05/2022 16:11

You poor woman. Yes, definitely A&E.

ZenKaleidoscope · 12/05/2022 16:12

Please go to a and e. I hope you will be OK. 💐💐

Lamplightlady4 · 12/05/2022 16:13

Thank you! Would I have sepsis without a temp?

Thank you! Would I have sepsis without a temp?

A low body temperature can be a sign of sepsis. You're also showing several other symptoms. Please go - let them work out what's wrong and treat you!

FAQs · 12/05/2022 16:15

Goodness yes, you could also end up with permanent hearing loss in that ear.

JimmyShoo · 12/05/2022 16:15

Go!

Lamplightlady4 · 12/05/2022 16:13

Thank you! Would I have sepsis without a temp?

Yes you can, there is also cold sepsis, just go to hospital, they will treat you.

FAQs · 12/05/2022 16:17

NHS website says low temperature is also an indicator of sepsis.

Snorkellingaround · 12/05/2022 16:19

Make sure you tell them you are worried about sepsis- they should take it really seriously.
