32.5 hours over 5 days (8:30-3:30) for £440 net per week approx.
Or
39 hours over 6 days, same as before plus a Saturday, for £510-520 net per week.
Every Sunday off
This is term time only so would have free time during school hols

Second one. As quite a difference in income. Most people will chose less hours but I guess it depends how much you need the extra cash versus family time and if you have weekend childcare

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:08

Don't mind 39 hours but don't know if i can face 6 days

Bigthicksliceoftoast · 10/05/2022 20:09

5 days for me now that I have children, but I would have picked the 6 days before I had children.

user1471464218 · 10/05/2022 20:11

All school holidays off? Like Halloween, Christmas, Feb half term, Easter, all summer?

For all school hols I would do the 6 days.

If not all school holidays then I'd only want 5 days.

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:11

Yes all school holidays.
Maybe it's worth it yeah

Well it would depend what I could afford, how old the children are, whether I have childcare for the saturday, if theres any commute?

Does the 3.30 finish mean being able to pick kids up at school and do homework with them?

If it's the only income I have, that extra £300 or so a month could be pretty essential in times like these.

However, if money isnt a big issue, I'd prefer to have a clear weekend.

Ilikewinter · 10/05/2022 20:11

5 days for me, having only 1 day off a week wouldnt be enough of a break away from work.

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:12

I don't have any children so that's not an issue

i would plump for 2 if I needed the money, and no working during any school
holiday - they often ask you to cover 4 days dotted over the holidays.
but if the money wasn’t needed eg not sole earner or I was a parent, I would go for option 1, experience says schools are the one place you will not get a break or lunch and will often be asked to join a meeting after hours etc. those two day weekend soon become a necessity even with the prospect of a ream every 6?weeks.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 10/05/2022 20:13

Break not ream.

CambsAlways · 10/05/2022 20:15

First one

confusedlots · 10/05/2022 20:18

Unless you really need the money, I would go for 5 days. 6 days in work is a lot, even if they're shorter days. You'd feel like you're only starting to shut off then you'd be back in again

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:20

Yeah, i do feel that 6 is a lot. Plus it would mean less time with partner and family.

5 days...no balance of life with 6 day working. Sometimes it's not about the money.

Samanabanana · 10/05/2022 20:29

Option 1 for sure!

2pinkginsplease · 10/05/2022 20:33

Definitely 5days. 2 days off gives you a better work balance. Working 6 days doesn't give you a good quality of life, free time etc .

I've gone from working 3 days(24hrs) to working 5 days (40hrs) and I'm knackered. I'm going to try and cut down to 4 days with either 32 or 36hrs depending on shift pattern.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 10/05/2022 20:36

Definitely five days.

Six days is a lot - they might be shorter but it means you never get a proper break.

NotYourOscarSpeech · 10/05/2022 20:38

Would you still be getting that income over the school holidays when you’re not working? Be careful with term time only contracts.

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:39

No i wouldn't still be getting the same income sadly but I can pick up other work during the holidays luckily

MarJau26 · 10/05/2022 20:41

Option 1. It's not even that much of difference money wise but time wise it is.

getsanta · 10/05/2022 20:42

Absolutely the first one. 6 days a week is no life.

ystaberia · 10/05/2022 20:46

If you don't have kids, I wouldn't opt for term time only. Holidays are cheaper and places quieter during term time. I also don't think long holidays make up for a 6 day working week.

Aria999 · 10/05/2022 20:49

6 days is a lot. I guess it depends how much you need the money.

I have been working 4 days recently and my non work to do list went through the roof.

gothereagain · 10/05/2022 20:52

First one. It's a marginally better hourly rate and I wouldn't work 6 days a week. On those hours I'd be able to collect my kids from school as well.

Cheeseontoast32 · 10/05/2022 20:57

I think I'm going to go for option 2. 32.5 hours feels like a dream lol, usually do 39-41
