32.5 hours over 5 days (8:30-3:30) for £440 net per week approx.
Or
39 hours over 6 days, same as before plus a Saturday, for £510-520 net per week.
Every Sunday off
This is term time only so would have free time during school hols

5 days for me

Merryoldgoat · 10/05/2022 21:01

5 days. I’ve worked 6 and it’s relentless.

if you don’t have to I wouldn’t.

clippety clop · 10/05/2022 21:16

5 days a week maximum for me.

I was curious and did a quick calc based on your figures to see what that would look like for a year.

i don’t recollect seeing anything about if you have kids or not.

job 1 is approx £22,882 net. Works out at £13.54 per hour. you’d get your holidays across 52 weeks and have a shorter working day. You’d likely still have wrap around costs as the working hours are beyond a normal school day.

job 2 is approx £19, 894 net. Works out at 13.08 per hour. Usually term time means your holidays are taken during the weeks you’re not scheduled on. You’d want to check if that’s prohibitive or not for you if that’s the case. You’d need wraparound during the term.

Job one for me, even with kids as it actually pays more than job 2 based on the hours worked and more flexible - 39 hours is a lot.

Why is the sixth day paid at a lower rate than the first 5?

The figures are net so you can't really compare the 2 - I expect the gross hourly rate is the same

5 days

Sushi7 · 11/05/2022 06:25

Definitely job 1. You’d get £88 a day whereas you’d get £85 a day for job 2. 6 days a week sounds awful too. However, if you don’t have dc then why have you chosen term time? Why not work full time or part time all year round?

Teaandtoastedbiscuits · 11/05/2022 06:54

Option one. I have small kids but I would feel like I had no time off working 6 days a week

liveforsummer · 11/05/2022 16:37

Do the 5 days and get some casual work in the holidays would be my choice

Chaoslatte · 11/05/2022 16:44

First one, I’d hate a 6 day week. It would feel like such a slog through term with no work life balance.
