To not tell sainsburys they’ve over delivered my shopping

Don’t normally order online but really busy and short of time so thought I’d try it again. Delivered when dh here and I still at work. They have doubled up on pack of 9 toilet rolls, 1.5 litre bottle of ribena and 2 lots of cereal bars. I’ve checked the receipt and only been charged for one of each. Not checked if anything else in cupboard but it’s least an extra £10 of stuff I have so far. I feel like I should let them know but whst will they do? Will I be charged extra as I really wouldn’t have ordered the extra, I don’t want the hassle of taking them back to a store as I’m busy hence the online order, I’m happy if they collect but we work so can’t be waiting in all day

Call them, they will say keep it and you will feel better.

AmberHeardsTurd · 10/05/2022 19:04

I wouldn't worry about it. I work in a supermarket and it is too much effort to either collect or have you return it and then process stock. I bet if you tell them, they'll tell you to keep the stuff (we would!)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/05/2022 19:04

Honestly I’m with you OP but MN will be up in arms about theft from a poor conglomerate

BrieAndChilli · 10/05/2022 19:04

My opinion is if the same items were missing would you ring up and demand a refund/replacement? If so then you should return the favour. Pretty sure they will say to keep it.

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2022 19:04

Well in the time it took to post this you could have called them. Grin But to be honest they probably wouldn't be that bothered if it's just a tenner's worth of stuff.

SnowWhitesSM · 10/05/2022 19:05

I'd be worried about telling them and getting the packer in trouble!

PumpkinsandKittens · 10/05/2022 19:06

People will tell you they always tell you to keep it but that isn’t true! I was delivered stuff that wasn’t mine once and called Tesco’s and they DID come back to collect it! I was surprised as always read they never come back

Chouetted · 10/05/2022 19:08

Call them - they'll say to keep it.

The only extra thing I've ever had was an entire head of broccoli, which I don't even like.

LemonDrizzles · 10/05/2022 19:12

Happened to me once years and years ago. I called and they said to keep it.

Don't get the frigging packer in trouble. It's all non-perishable. Donate it to a food bank.

Yes I was thinking that, my mum helps at one so I could just give them to her

Once I got a whole tray of someone else’s shopping. Dh had taken the delivery in and thought I was ‘being adventurous’ 🤣🤣🤣
I called them and they said to keep it .

it actually really cheered me up it was things I’d never buy but I thoroughly enjoyed it all🤣🤣

thinkfast · 10/05/2022 19:30

You're lucky OP. My last Sainsburys delivery was dripping in bleach. Dropped on my hall carpet and all over my kitchen before I noticed. Most of my order was unusable. They didn't care at all. Eventually, after much complaining to head office I got a £25 voucher from them.

Jammysod · 10/05/2022 19:35

Tesco delivered 2 punnets of grapes last week, I'd only ordered 1. Told the driver who said to just keep them.

britneyisfree · 10/05/2022 19:41

Fuck then. Sainsburys made huge profits this year, they will be more than fine.

newnamethanks · 10/05/2022 19:51

It's too expensive for them to collect it. If it's fresh food they'll bin it. Tell them, they won't want it back.

Might help the deliver driver out though who will be under delivering to a customer - stops them getting into trouble for not delivery goods that have been packed into the van.

Call the store. They won't ask you to return them yourself and you'd be perfectly fine to say you can't return them yourself.

Almost certainly they will tell you to keep them. If the delivery driver was still very close there may be a small chance they could return to collect them so they can deliver them to the right customer (if not already visited.)

tkwal · 10/05/2022 19:59

Let them know. It was their fault and it would probably cost them a fortune to collect it, so they most likely will tell you to keep it, but you will have done the right thing

HollowTalk · 10/05/2022 20:00

I would tell the store because I wouldn't want the driver to get into trouble if another order was short.

DrBrennerFan · 10/05/2022 20:02

Happened to me once stuff I hadn’t ordered told them as worried someone else was missing bits they said keep them

billybear · 10/05/2022 20:05

Sparklingbrook · 10/05/2022 20:08

From what I can gather it's not the driver who would be in trouble, they just deliver what's picked in crates designated for particular customers. So if anyone it'll be the picker, unless they actually delivered someone else's crate to a customer.

CuteOrangeElephant · 10/05/2022 20:09

I work in the deliveries department for a major supermarket. AFAIK they never take back shopping and especially not cooled stuff because they have no way of checking what customers have done with the items.

JollyWilloughby · 10/05/2022 20:10

Oh I love a good freebie. I certainly wouldn’t lose sleep over it 😂.
