To not tell sainsburys they’ve over delivered my shopping

Don’t normally order online but really busy and short of time so thought I’d try it again. Delivered when dh here and I still at work. They have doubled up on pack of 9 toilet rolls, 1.5 litre bottle of ribena and 2 lots of cereal bars. I’ve checked the receipt and only been charged for one of each. Not checked if anything else in cupboard but it’s least an extra £10 of stuff I have so far. I feel like I should let them know but whst will they do? Will I be charged extra as I really wouldn’t have ordered the extra, I don’t want the hassle of taking them back to a store as I’m busy hence the online order, I’m happy if they collect but we work so can’t be waiting in all day

This is like one of those ethical or moral questions you used to get at school.

Like, if you walked passed a cash machine and it was spurting out £50 notes, would you grab the money and run. Or would you call the police and hand the money to them.

Maybe give them a call and fingers crossed they tell you to keep it.

ladygindiva · 10/05/2022 20:13

We had the entire middle section of our order replicated once, assumed they'd swapped pickers and communication error meant the new picker started in the wrong place. About 40 quids worth free. I called ( tesco) and they were surprised I'd rung and not interested in returns. It was the height of lock down, they were really busy.

My opinion is if the same items were missing would you ring up and demand a refund/replacement? If so then you should return the favour. Pretty sure they will say to keep it.

This. I’d at least have to clear my conscience about the error.

Might help the deliver driver out though who will be under delivering to a customer - stops them getting into trouble for not delivery goods that have been packed into the van.

Call the store. They won't ask you to return them yourself and you'd be perfectly fine to say you can't return them yourself.

Almost certainly they will tell you to keep them. If the delivery driver was still very close there may be a small chance they could return to collect them so they can deliver them to the right customer (if not already visited.)

I didn’t get home from work till an hour after he’d delivered. I don’t think it was someone else’s as it was two lots of the specific things I’d ordered

I don’t usually order online I go to the store, this is a one off as I was busy and also I’d been to the petrol station in the day and it gave me a voucher for £18 off a £60 online shop so I thought why not

My friend received someone else's (very expensive) xmas order. She phoned and was told to keep it. Luckily she had her four friends visiting as there's no way she'd have been able to store it alongside hers and we had to help her with some of the alcohol she knew they wouldn't touch!!

Seraphinesupport · 10/05/2022 20:24

they will always say to keep it anyway

Seraphinesupport · 10/05/2022 20:25

i got £30 worth of free easter eggs day before easter, bet someone was pissed the driver said to keep them as theyre fault and was labelled wrong so no idea whos house they belong too

Georgeskitchen · 10/05/2022 20:26

Dont bother. Call it a little bonus.

They treat their staff like shite anyway serves em right

Once I got a whole tray of someone else’s shopping. Dh had taken the delivery in and thought I was ‘being adventurous’ 🤣🤣🤣
I called them and they said to keep it .

it actually really cheered me up it was things I’d never buy but I thoroughly enjoyed it all🤣🤣

Same thing happened to my parents a few years back and the other person’s shopping included rum and raisin ice cream which mum and dad thought they ‘might as well try’ after they were told to keep it.

6 years down the line and the two of them are still hooked on rum and raisin ice cream 😂😂 and now they order it every time. So it sort of worked in the supermarket’s favour…

PumpkinsandKittens · 10/05/2022 20:33

They don’t always say to keep it like I said they collected it when I called them but I called straight away and didn’t waste an hour on MN before calling, the driver even came back with the persons shopping list with all the missing items crossed off! He came back within 20 mins

Delphinium90 · 10/05/2022 20:35

Since Covid, they've been reluctant to take anything back that's already been touched by the customer. I don't know if things have eased back recently, but during the height of the pandemic you had to inform the driver of any unsuitable substitutions and they had to remove them from the bag,you weren't supposed to touch them.Maybe for this reason they won't want the stuff back from you.

BaaMoon · 10/05/2022 20:37

Tweet them? They'll tell you to keep it anyway.

I would have told the driver if I’d been here but I was at work and not home for hour and half so he’d long gone

Call them, they will say keep it and you will feel better.

This.

As for people saying not to get the packer in trouble, if you don't say anything, the driver will get in trouble for leaving things in the van. If someones's made a mistake, it's better than the right person gets held accountable.

The supermarket are not going to send someone back for a bottle of Ribena, and they're not going to charge you for unsolicited goods.

IwaswhoIam · 10/05/2022 21:06

Personally I wouldn’t say anything. If you called it would be a lot of hassle explaining it and in the end they would tell you to keep it free of charge .

Quornflakegirl · 10/05/2022 21:09

This happened to me with Tesco a few months ago but with many more items, we got about 20 double items from coffee to honey and pasta. I called them and they said to keep them, it was £28 worth of double items.
