The three children over the road are allowed to play out each morning from 7.30am. They are out there noisily playing on the road now, riding their bikes and shouting.

Normal kid noises is more tolerable than worker radios, motorbikes, jack hammers or whatever works are going on, hammers, sirens, dogs barking constantly, cats fighting, couples arguing, or so many other noises you get in the morning.

Agreed! By 8am most mornings, I’ve heard the garbage truck go by, the screeching brakes of the fire truck that belongs to the station down the road and of the local school bus (they never fix those bloody brakes!), my neighbours on both sides slamming their car doors closed, and sometimes even construction workers drilling and jack-hammering. These things annoy me, a little bit, but are also just part of city living.

Things like playing children and chirping birds (…those birds like to start around 4:30am…) are a genuine delight in comparison. I actually really enjoy the sound of children playing. I think it’s cheerful.

SlickShady · 10/05/2022 15:37

Do yourself favour and buy an aircon. Then you can keep your windows closed and to heck with the neighbour's kids.

Chaoslatte · 10/05/2022 15:43

@Tryhard40 it’s possible to play outside without making excessive amounts of noise. I don’t think the children should be stopped from playing outside, I think they should just play in a way such that their shouting isn’t disturbing people.

The windows were closed. And no, I won't have air con.

Then you need double glazing. I slept next to a front window facing a busy road and was almost never disturbed by sounds from outside.

Why won't you have aircon?

The number of threads I see of people complaining about their neighbours who are inconsiderately noisy and believe any request to be quieter is an infringement on their rights...

And then I read 2 threads in a week about how cruel and unreasonable it is to teach children to be mindful of their neighbours!

There is no hypocrite like a MN hypocrite 🙄

DogsAndGin · 10/05/2022 17:13

No I don’t think that’s okay. Weekdays are shift workers weekends.

If the rule is 10am on a Sunday (as was suggested in another post last week) it should be the same every day

Chaoslatte · 10/05/2022 17:13

@Kat1953 I’m not a hypocrite - I think everyone should avoid making noise that disturbs their neighbours whether they are an adult or a child (babies excepted, they can’t help it!). For example, I don’t use the washing machine after 8pm as my NDN’s kids are in bed and when I moved to a mid terrace I quit playing violin.

I missed that post. 10am????

Where I live people are often up and out mowing their lawns or power washing their driveways by 7:30 on weekend mornings.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply you were a hypocrite - I meant it generally about the posts on the two threads!

I have perfectly good windows but children shouting loudly is beyond most windows. As for air con, there's this thing called the environment and anyway I like my windows open when possible.

I like it when they aren't shouting before 8am. We live in a quiet rural area and don't have all the city noises, it's just birds, animals and children which I enjoy but draw the line at early morning shouting.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the unicef rights of a child let them play. Telling them to keep quiet etc breaches that right. It’s normal for kids to get up at 7-ish, not bad parenting. They are allowed to play within normal children’s waking time. If it was 11 at night then that would be a welfare concern, but anytime between 7am to 8pm suck it up!

Amazing. Whether it's sincere or troll, amazing.

Tbh, there are very few people likely to have sympathy for you when you're not up and about at 8am on a weekday.

I didn't realise there were rules about what time you 'should' be up in a morning! I'm not even sure there's a societal norm anymore now so many of us don't work 9-5.

Fairisleflora · 10/05/2022 20:42

Yup. We had a whiney neighbour, I spoke to the Council ‘noise police’ who suggested - in slightly more polite language - that I told the neighbour to f-off. As long as the child is not being neglected (I.e. not being put to bed at a reasonable hour etc) they are free to live their childhoods without adults telling them to shhhh.

Fairisleflora · 10/05/2022 20:43

There are rule for when trades people can start. I think it’s 7-6 weekdays and slightly later Saturday and not at all Sunday?

MajorCarolDanvers · 10/05/2022 20:46

Weekdays ok, Weekends not before 9am.

🙄🙄🙄

What ever fecking happened to manners?

Why would children play out before school anyway?

Teaching a child to be considerate is a life lesson not against their rights. I wonder how many school rules break these rights then?

Entitled.

For all you know, OP is a nurse who didn’t get to bed until 5am.

mellongoose · 10/05/2022 22:10

Sheesh 🙄 poor kids! I'm pleased they're playing out before school rather than addicted to screens.

Assuming the road is safe 🤷‍♀️ I would be encouraging play at breakfast time.

Sorry OP but you sound a tiny bit miserly.

Even if that's so, outside noise at a reasonable time of 730+ on a weekday is to be expected and something she'd have to manage.

No different to if we were ill in bed and neighbours made noise at that time, these are every day living noises.

Blue4YOU · 11/05/2022 04:08

I’d be admiring their energy! As a kid I really struggled to get out of bed
