Yes, I roast pepper, garlic and onions then add them to passata, blend them and add the browned mince.

Hard-boiled eggs do not belong in a lasagne!

They do in some regions of Italy. Actually, some provinces- because the province north of me used boiled eggs but we don't.

Meat lasagna with eggplant, peas and hard boiled egg in my house.

No way! That's rank

heavyistheheed · 07/05/2022 20:40

@DazedandConcerned I know what you mean, I also have Sicilian family and they are very set in their ways. My brother makes 'lasagne' with hard boiled eggs and ham which tastes fantastic but I just wanna call it something else 🤣

I'm sure it tastes fine but I just can't bring myself to call it a lasagne 😫

CounsellorTroi · 07/05/2022 20:49

Yes, peppers and mushrooms.

pastypirate · 07/05/2022 20:50

No. Yuck. Peppers are horrid and sour.

DazedandConcerned · 07/05/2022 20:59

@coffeecupsandfairylights fair enough. It’s very popular in some regions of Italy especially Sicily. Much like bechamel being a northern Italian thing mostly (originally anyway).

if you ever get to Sicily you’ll understand 😉

Abcdefu · 07/05/2022 21:02

Always why wouldn't you put them in? Bulks it out too

SockFluffInTheBath · 07/05/2022 21:03

CounsellorTroi · 07/05/2022 20:49

Yes, peppers and mushrooms.

Same. Possibly not authentic but we like it. Does every recipe have be painfully self-aware all the bloody time?

majorquimby · 07/05/2022 21:03

What sort of witchcraft is this?! No, no and a thousand times no.

Hallyup89 · 07/05/2022 21:04

No, but I do add grated carrots instead.

I've been to Sicily several times!

I don't think I ever had lasagne with eggs in it though 🤔

jewishmum · 07/05/2022 22:46

Only in melanzane alla parmigiano, if that.

randomchap · 07/05/2022 22:48

Mine does, I like to bulk out the mince with peppers, courgettes and mushrooms. If I chop it small enough the DC don't notice and eat the veg

Imissmoominmama · 07/05/2022 22:49

I put in finely diced peppers, mushrooms and onion, and occasionally courgette. I make no apology- my kids have always loved my lasagna.

howrudeforme · 07/05/2022 22:54

@DazedandConcerned

yup same here. Actually the boiled egg makes the lasagna lighter. We don’t do a bechamel on top either. This is my ex mil style.

lol - I was planning to make lasagna (first time this year) for DS and you’ve reminded me to add the boiled egg 😀. Thank you!

bridgetreilly · 07/05/2022 23:36

So long as you cook it for at least three hours, it doesn’t really matter what you put in the meat sauce. I usually include celery, peppers, onions, and grated carrot, plus anything in the fridge that needs using up. Lentils if I want to make the meat go further.

Kite22 · 08/05/2022 00:08

I don't ever follow a recipe.
What ends up in my lasagne very much depends on what is loitering in the fridge gravel drawer when I'm making it. So yes, sometimes it will have peppers in, but other times it won't.

tuliplover · 08/05/2022 00:09

Yes. But mine also has cheddar, Parmesan and salami!

BrownStripePJ · 08/05/2022 00:18

My Italian mum uses hard boiled eggs, salami, peas, cheese, mince meat/bolognese sauce

Helloumi · 08/05/2022 00:36

Nope, absolutely not! My Grandmother would but green peppers in her lasagne and it made it taste so bitter and completely ruin it. I don't put any vegetables other than onions in my ragu. Blush

ouch321 · 08/05/2022 01:14

I put courgette and spinach in mine. Bit random but....

Red bell pepper in chilli and tomato soup

i can’t even begin to explain how many types of wrong this is.

DazedandConcerned · 07/05/2022 20:38

@heavyistheheed don’t tell my Sicilian in laws that 🤣🤣🤣

And it is amazing. I was really apprehensive at first.

I suspect your in laws are pranking you!

Or they are children - I made an ice-cream with a boiled egg for my mum on mother's day.
Can't say it's become a family recipe though...
