To ask is anyone else has encountered this evil strain of norovirus doing the rounds?

I had norovirus six weeks ago. It was 48 straight hours of hell and then a pretty quick pickup.

I have it again now, thanks covid-depleted immune system, DS1 and I have been sick for a nearly week. We started Fri/Sat. Absolutely crippling abdominal pains, so bad they make you squirm. Both of us had those and vomiting for two whole days, my poor autistic DS just groaned throughout those, day and night. Then the beige diarrhoea. The fever finally broke on maybe day 4. I'm exhausted and still haven't eaten anything resembling a meal. Neither has DS. And now with DS1 the farting and accidents. Every time the counter ticks forward another 48 hours until they can go back to school. Yes we are recovering thank goodness but it's been a week!

Now we are hoping he will be ok for Monday. That's six whole days off school for one bug.

DH has had to give up work this week (he is self employed) because I just can't deal with being this weak and looking after DS and my poor neglected 3yo who is just tottering around like a ticking time bomb.

It's pure evil. I have never ever had a bug like this.

My NDN have tho, they had it last week. As have a few friends I've spoken to. So I'm wondering if there's a special strain of Noro doing the rounds because if there is, we have it.

Wash your hands, guys.

That sounds hell. I’m just recovering from a sickness bug. 12 hours of being sick roughly every 30 mins. My whole body hurts feels like I’ve pulled every muscle from retching. My two sons have had it too but only(!!) sick 4 or 5 times. I hope you are all better soon. My 5yo has had so much time off school this year, this is his third sickness bug.

We've had this, DD2 brought it home from nursery just as the Easter holidays began, then me, DD1 and DP all fell victim. All done and dusted in a few days or so we thought. Went on holiday, all fine apart from DD2 had a slightly squitty tummy. Theeeen it all kicked off again this week! Diarrhoea and vomiting for the kids, me and DP just feeling nauseous this time but it's pretty vile! Don't know if it's a brand new bug or somehow reinfected with the old one again but from what you say it's possible it's the same one again!

Am now fanatically washing my hands every five minutes and driving the kids mad making them do it too. Uuuurgh.

I'm pretty sure they are two separate bugs but jeeeez, unlucky!

We had this a couple of weeks a go. Absolutely horrific, I can't explain the carnage that was the house. I'm still finding vomit on walls.

Ds1 is also autistic and sickness/diarrhea causes him to meltdown and pace frantically. He was like a walking, screaming fountain the poor child. Ds2 is still young, he doesn't give any warning so it just goes everywhere, and I was also frantically trying to aim at a bucket while comforting, restraining and cleaning up the children and the house. Fucking horrific. It lasted a week here, every time I thought we had got past it there was an encore. We had covid 2 weeks after and that was a walk in the park in comparison.

TheCanyon · 04/05/2022 21:16

Our hospital has had a ward shut for coming up two weeks with it.

Peccary · 04/05/2022 21:16

Agree, DD has been in school or nursery for 4 years, this is the first time she has been off with D&V, she's usually impervious to these things. DH has been ill for a week. I have constant nausea although am the least affected. This is the first time the whole household has gone down (I also think Covid trashed our immune systems)

Twilight7777 · 04/05/2022 21:22

Just had this myself, I had projectile vomiting, both d & V. Also had tonsillitis, a chest infection as well as a temperature and severe fatigue. I’m on day 10 and I’m just beginning to feel

bbqhulahoop · 04/05/2022 21:23

There is a special strain! The baby ended up being hospitalised with dehydration and the doctor said to expect it to come and go for at least a week post discharge which it did! It then went away for 2 weeks and she had another 48h bout. Older DD has had two shorter bouts and me and DP have had one bout each lasting a week. I hope you feel better soon OP

SkyLarkDescending · 04/05/2022 21:23

Yes!
We were wiped out for all but the last weekend of the Easter holidays with the blooming thing. Horrendous. More awful was that I was the last one to catch it so I could sense it coming for me all week.
I had a fever for 4 days, ended up coughing blood and barely ate. I still have a sore throat and blocked nose 2 weeks later.

Twilight7777 · 04/05/2022 21:27

That was meant to be ‘feel human at long last’

somethinghere · 04/05/2022 21:27

I've had the stomach bug, as had my 2 year old, husband managed to avoid it somehow.
Started with vomiting for 2 days then beige diarrhoea for the next 4 days. I've never been that unwell with a stomach bug before. Horrible.

somethinghere · 04/05/2022 21:30

I also want to add that I saw my brother 3 days after my last bout of D&V (waaaay over 48hs after) and he caught it from me! And I'm always washing / sanitising hands so I have no idea how

DinoRock · 04/05/2022 21:48

Noooo I thought we'd have wiped it out with all the isolation and stuff.

Had he definitely seen no one else? I'm scared now.

fossilsmorefossils · 05/05/2022 03:33

You have my sympathies. I had noro for a whole week a couple of years ago. It completrly floored me.

Wavygravy1 · 05/05/2022 05:18

It appears we have an encore, literally 48 hours after we were last sick both me and 5yo have woken up puking. I could cry 😭

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/05/2022 07:19

Yes! It’s going through our house really violently! I’m the only one so far not to have got it but I’m sure it’ll come.

OnceMoreWithoutFeeling · 05/05/2022 08:58

And heeeeere's the diarrhoea for me! Envy Sad URGH. This is endless.

DinoRock · 05/05/2022 09:02

How do you deal with the vomit? I'm thinking of getting plastic sheeting in as it's going around round here so it's only a matter of time.

OfstedOffred · 05/05/2022 09:05

Isnt the point that lockdown meant we a missed easily a year of being routinely exposed to bugs so our immune system has forgotten how to deal with them? So we are getting everything more severely.

DonnaMae · 05/05/2022 09:07

Apparently the isolation has made it worse. According to the medics I know, two years of masks, lockdowns and isolation have wrecked most peoples immune systems- especially for babies and young children born during the lockdowns and masks who ever had a chance to be exposed to the germs and basic bugs that they usually would. They’ve all said they’re seeing people take longer to shift what would have been simple coughs/colds/sickness bugs etc because a lot of people are pretty much starting from scratch with their immune systems.

LunchBoxPolice · 05/05/2022 10:16

We’ve just had it and the stomach cramps were intense, I cried at one point.

jamoncrumpets · 05/05/2022 10:30

Well the 3yo has it now. So that's nice.

You catch it in whatever comes to hand and run your washing machine about 4 times a day.

I'm emetophobic so I understand your anxiety but honestly you can't contingency plan for this, so try not to, it will just stress you out. If you get it it's shit, but it will end eventually.

It could be c diff and that is airborne spores so washing hands won't get rid! I remember patients having it in an elderly ward. Once you've been in once as a nurse to look after them you're assigned for the whole shift. That was fun...
