Dog walkers taking their dogs to poop outside other peoples property

LyricalBoudicca · 04/05/2022 13:09

Frequently I see dog owners/walkers taking their dogs to regularly poop outside other peoples’ homes. They are generally good at clearing up the mess ( although tend to dump the poop bag in the nearest private bin). However, I’ve concluded that this is a contrived strategy to avoid any pooping on their own patch. ( I WFH and my office directly overlooks my street…. I can’t help but notice). It’s generally public land so I can’t see any legal issue but isn’t it rather cheeky?

Er. How do you suggest they get the dog to poo, if not by walking it and getting its guts moving around etc? I’m no dog-owner, don’t particularly like dogs, but I do not think chasing their dog around the garden would work. Plus going for a walk is nice for both dog and owner.

At least they clear it up. A mean cat lives opposite me (fights with my cat) and most nights it swings by to crap on my front step. Have seen him do it, plus he sprays my car wheel. Which then seems to encourage a fox to poo nearby. I would happily swap this dick of a cat and his stalker fox for your dog-walking neighbours!

So they’re walking their dogs on public land, their dog poops, they pick it up and dispose of it in the way expected of them? Are you having a slow day at work OP?

wetotter · 04/05/2022 13:15

Dogs don't like to poo in their own territory. it's a hard-wired instinct.

So the owners aren't doing it because they are the ones who choose.

But utterly wrong to dump a poo bag anywhere other than a public litter bin or you own bin.

Beamur · 04/05/2022 13:15

Dogs need walking, for their overall well-being, not just toileting. Some dogs won't 'go' until they've been walked for a while.
Not everyone has a big garden.
As long as you clean up afterwards I can't really see what the problem is.

Coffeeholix · 04/05/2022 13:17

Ah, missed the bit about the private bin… yes that’s a cheek, but better than leaving it on the pavement I suppose.

Scarlettpixie · 04/05/2022 13:19

Our dog poops in the garden and also on walks. Dogs need exercise and will go when they need to. I really don’t see the issue so long as the owners clean up.

Peterpiperpickedwrongagain · 04/05/2022 13:22

Ours had certain spots where we could guarantee she would poop, be that on a woodland walk, the dog park or a trip around the block. I figure it’s kind of like going to the staff toilets in work, you always tend to pick a certain cubicle if it’s free.

dumping it in someone’s wheelie bin is a bit grim, I’ve had people do that to us, but I’d rather it was in the bin than not picked up/dumped on the street/slung in a bush.

CollieDug · 04/05/2022 13:24

If your theory is hypothesis is correct Is it not the case that these external poos are cancelled out by all your neighbours taking their dogs to poo in other neighbourhoods?

rainbowandglitter · 04/05/2022 13:28

Our dogs poo in our garden, never on walks.

catscatscatseverywhere · 04/05/2022 13:30

As log as it's picked up it's fine, but putting the bag to someone's bin. How rude. It actually annoys me more when dogs foul someone's fence or plants.

RealBecca · 04/05/2022 13:31

@Coffeeholix pavement and bin arent the only choice, taking it home is the only right answer.

RealBecca · 04/05/2022 13:36

Putting dog mess bags in private bins or bins in childrens playparks which are clearly marked no dog mess is disgusting.

I dont want a dog because I dont want to deal with dog shit. Dont put it in my bin. Its beyond filthy. Its happened even when I've brought my bin fully down the driveway away from the street and I cant do anymore until DH is home due to mobility issues. Bins left out are not public or fair game.

My King Charles was like that, no matter how long you walked him he would come home, go straight to back door and poo in the garden.

Weepingwillows12 · 04/05/2022 13:40

There is a local dog owner who always let's his dog onto my lawn to piss on a tree. It's no huge thing in the scheme of things but it's a patch of land where all the local kids end up playing as central to their houses plus it stops the grass/ bulbs growing. Drives me nuts. One of those things that just gets under your skin when logically I know it's not a big deal.

2bazookas · 04/05/2022 13:44

You don't know much about dogs and their digestive system.
Taking them for a walk stimulates the bowel/gut system and promotes a bowel movement. It commonly takes around 10 minutes of brisk walking to trigger the poo.

Most people don't have a garden large enough for a 10 minute brisk walk, that's why dog owners take the dog out for a walk. Then they pick up and bag the poo so you have nothing to worry about.

2bazookas · 04/05/2022 13:47

*But utterly wrong to dump a poo bag anywhere other than a public litter bin or you own bin."

How is securely bagged poo dumped in "your own bin" any different from any other? It's all collected by the same trucks and taken to the same disposal site

Wheelz46 · 04/05/2022 13:50

So what would you suggest when someone is out walking their dog and it needs to đź’©

I have a dog, he does his business in the garden and also while we are out walking, I can't just drag him away because it happens to be outside of someone's house. I would never deposit the poop bags in a private bin though, only a public one or wait until I get home to put it on our own bin.

A few dog walkers have used my private bin, which I do find unbelievably cheeky, as dog owners it doesn't make too much of a difference in the grand scheme of things but still find that cheeky!

serenghetti2011 · 04/05/2022 13:51

Better putting it in a bin - any bin than leaving it on a wall or bush like some do. My dog walks far so I can’t control where he will poo. It’s picked up and put in the bin i wouldn’t usually put it in someone’s own bin though. No one is deliberately taking their dogs to poo on your street.

daffodilandtulip · 04/05/2022 13:54

Dogs stop and poo when they need a poo. Not entirely sure how we can control that Hmm
I always take it home / red bin though!

Soubriquet · 04/05/2022 13:57

I am so sorry OP. I’ll stick a cork up my dogs bums and them they can only poo in their own yard

Seriously though, as long as it’s picked up, and disposed of (not hung from a tree or dumped on the sidewalk), is it really an issue?!

Lightningrain · 04/05/2022 13:58

My dog won’t poo in the garden unless absolutely desperate so we have to take her for a walk.

She also will only poo on grass so I make sure I don’t let her walk onto grass that’s directly outside someone’s house.

I do find putting poo in other people’s wheelie bins quite cheeky but I’d rather someone did that rather than leave the poo or hang the bags from trees.

LyricalBoudicca · 04/05/2022 14:03

With one dog owner I suspect an act of micro aggression towards another neighbour. I’m wondering if he trained his doggie to poop in a particular spot.

Feel this thread is another sneaky way for the mumsnet dog haters to come out in force🤔…but I shall continue…

As long as the dog doesn’t do it’s business on anyone’s private property such as someone’s driveway/front garden then it’s fine for them to do it on the pavement as long as it’s cleared up. I do agree that the bag should be disposed correctly and not in private bins.

Always amazes me people feel it’s cheeky that dogs do it on the pavement where a majority of the time it’s picked up by owners yet they have no problem for cats and other wildlife’s poo in their gardens? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I haven't worked in an office for YEARS AND YEARS, but this has made me properly LOL because that's exactly what I used to do, and I assumed I was weird!

nearlyspringyay · 04/05/2022 14:18

Ddog only poos when our, won't poo in the garden. I don't take him to certain places to poo and when he does I pick it up, take it home and put it in our bins.

Unlike the cats and foxes that seem to love shitting on my front doorstep.
