To think that if Kim Kardashian can, I should be able to do the same too and yet can't?

Apparently Kim Kardashian lost 16 pounds/7k in under a month. Reportedly she wore a sauna suit, ran, and cut down sugar and cards and ate vegetables and protein. I may not have the sauna suit but I can do the rest, right? And yes I don't think I could lose that much weight in a month (I'm a size ten, about 5'4). AIBU to think that while on paper I should be able to lose that much weight, it probably wouldn't happen? I usually watch my weight by calorie counting and that works for me - but not that quickly!

Marilyn Monroe was pretty tiny by today’s standards. All the stuff about her being plus size is bs.

And that says a lot about our standards today! Obesity is the acceptable standard and any attempt to seriously lose weight by limiting / changing food is 'disordered'. You apparently can only lose weight by taking up running, despite the fact that it is absolutely proven that you do not lose significant weight by running. It's madness! What do you want her to do? She wanted to wear that dress, we all have our own version of this whether it is going on holiday in 3 months time, getting married or being a bridesmaid - we all have this in our lives at some point. She decided to do something about it, and all she gets is complete vitriol.

There is a lot of hate towards KK on this thread. I can't help but see a lot of nasty jealousy that she actually did it.

I believed it because you hear of people losing astonishing amounts of weight in short periods of time. I didn't read anything myself but heard it while queuing up at the post office so I thought maybe I didn't have all the details. I just googled it and she did look stunning though.

she always does look stunning because shes got vast amounts of money to spend on improving her apperance and pay plastic surgeons , as someone upthread has already said its probably not true , dont forget her sister kylie denies shes had any plastic surgery at all yet is unrecongnisable from how she was when she was younger , you cant believe anything they put out there as gospel

lljkk · 03/05/2022 17:35

Apparently Kim Kardashian is studying to be a lawyer, had one of her "baby" bar exam questions chosen as model answer. Wants to work professionally to achieve sentencing reforms (better equality for marginalised social groups).

I don't care about her weight loss, but KK could achieve a lot of good in criminal justice legal world.

SunshineCake · 03/05/2022 17:37

Famous for having sex and filming it. Why would you take any notice of anything she says about anything ?

breakdown19 · 03/05/2022 17:49

If you are a size ten I wouldn't have thought you have 16lb to lose

That's because all the many people who lose weight sensibly and healthily at the rate of around 1lb a week aren't going to shout from the rooftops about it, are they?

The only time I've managed to lose half a stone in a week was when I had salmonella poisoning.

CallMeNutribullet · 03/05/2022 18:01

Marilyn is an icon but her personal life was a disaster and she made no secret of the fact she was no stranger to the casting couch. Her life was very sad but I wonder if she'd be viewed THAT differently to Kim Kardashian if she was a celebrity today.

megletthesecond · 03/05/2022 18:04

Even if she did do something so reckless she would of had a doctor and personal trainer keeping an eye on her. Don't copy her. Lose weight sensibly.

I really don't think it was Marilyns actual dress though, she was much smaller than KK. And the material must surely be too fragile to be out on the town.

hamstersarse · 03/05/2022 18:05

I find this a really dishonest statement. Someone who is obese can and should be losing more than 1lb a week. I think you are saying that highly restrictive diets are bad for health, but what KK is talking about here explicitly says that she did not starve herself. Such is our 'education' on weight loss, we believe that if we don't eat carbs we are going to somehow die of a nutritional deficit when the truth is that there are no discernible nutrition benefits from most carbs that most people eat. She explicitly says that she was eating protein and vegetables. That is healthy. And a healthy way to lose weight.

What nutrition do you think you get from pizza and doughnuts?

MargaritasOnMe · 03/05/2022 17:03

Rumour has it she had her butt implants removed which is why there are no shots from the back. And she had lipo. I don't doubt she lost the weight but I imagine it was in a completely unattainable way for most people.

I believe this. She no longer needs to look that enhanced, so she rid herself of that costume.

fallfallfall · 03/05/2022 18:09

Well, depending on a few things women have 5-10lbs of poop in their intestines.
sweat suit probably can dehydrate you another 5-10lbs so really she dropped 5 lbs MAYBE of weight in six weeks.

Topgub · 03/05/2022 18:11

Why would anyone want to do anything that waste of space does?

IheartJKRowling · 03/05/2022 18:22

I've flushed away things with more class and talent than KK.

Why would you want to aspire to that?

Just be nice to your body, don't starve it and don't over feed it, job done.

Titsywoo · 03/05/2022 18:25

I was quite ill recently and barely ate anything for 3 weeks (no more than 500-600 cals a day) and I lost 10lbs in that time. I looked like shit and felt really weak. I wouldn't advise it and if you are a size 10 why do you need to lose so much weight? Kim may have been telling the truth but it will mostly be water from the excessive sweating. She was irresponsible saying that on TV to be honest.

1000yellowdaisies · 03/05/2022 16:35

Im calling absolute BS on this. Her PR probably made it up as it adds to the story. People who lose weight that much weight that quickly tend to be bigger in the first place, which Kim isnt (despite all the talk of her bum and curves she is slim).

As an aside I think its so sad she was allowed to wear such an iconic dress because she degrades it. Shes about a million miles away from Marilyn Monroe

Hang on, Marilyn Monroe, affairs with both JFK and his brother, addicted to barbiturates, had numerous overdoses and in fact died of an overdose. Had an affair with second husband while married to her third - in fact many affairs with co-stars and others, nude photo shoot at the height of her fame (which was shocking at the time). I think Kimmy is practically a saint compared!

Yes, I agree with this.

I love MM and am no fan of the Kardashians. I was very surprised that KK was allowed to wear the dress and my initial thought was that it was inappropriate and that she's tarnished it.

However, I do think a lot of the love towards MM is due to nostalgia for a bygone age and rose tinted glasses.

I believe at the time she was probably regarded by many the way a lot of us view the Kardashians today. I've read of a lot of very scathing remarks about MM by her contemporaries.

jolietomate · 03/05/2022 18:34

Looking at pictures of KK, you can see in her face and the outline of her figure she has dropped quite a lot of weight. I also concur that given her draped fur jacket, the back of the dress wasn’t done up fully. Even so, she lost weight doing keto and a lot of exercise. Is it body fat, probably not, but she’ll have lost a lot of water and also glycogen from her liver.

16 pounds is a dress size, maybe even a dress size and a half depending on the individual. Will KK keep the weight off, probably not, so OP, it all depends if you’re looking for a short term loss or looking to keep it off long term. I’m also 5”4 and a size 6. I was an 8 (pandemic weight) but lost 11 pounds in less than a week thanks to feeling so nauseated after my Covid booster, I could not eat. By some miracle I have managed to keep the weight off despite eating properly again.

I do think people on here have strange ideas of weight and dress sizes. I felt enormous at a size 8. And besides, today’s size 8 is much bigger than it used to be thanks to vanity sizing. If OP isn’t happy at her current dress size, that’s her business and I hope she finds the results she’s looking for.

This was my thought. I'd argue Kim K is far closer to Marilyn in terms of scandal than Marilyn was to, say, Audrey Hepburn!

steff13 · 03/05/2022 18:36

I've lost 13 lbs using Noom since last Sunday. But, I weigh a lot more than KK to start with, and it comes off faster at first when you're heavier. I'm just keeping my calories at 1500 or less per day.

diamondpony80 · 03/05/2022 18:51

I doubt she lost that much, but it’s doable if you’re super strict. Eat very little and exercise a lot - not sustainable at all but possibly was necessary to fit into her chosen dress. A lot would be water weight and would be put straight back on again.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/05/2022 18:41

Did she? She basically did a Lindsay Lohan, being fired for absences from her final film, and then overdosed.

She was more covered up day to day because it was the 1960s. I'm pretty sure that if MM was born 50 years later she'd have ended up like Britney.

PeekAtYou · 03/05/2022 18:54

I thought she only ate tomatoes and water for 3 weeks?

I also thought she went to the gym every day at 5/6am ?

Either way, now that the event is over she'll probably go back to her usual diet and exercise routine which seemed to work for her.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/05/2022 19:05

I think those people (the Kardashian's) OWN the dress paying about £5million quid for it

There body types and measurements are completely different - Marilyn was 35,22,35 and KK is 36,26,39

That's 9 inches

And as we all know 9 inches is a lot GrinWink

EatSleepReplete · 03/05/2022 19:17

I've lost 13lb since April 4th on Dukan. I'm 5'3" & haven't done any exercise except for some relatively intermittent walking (& I spent 4 days in bed over this weekend due to my monthly migraine). I don't count calories, I eat when I'm hungry. Low fat & low carb, vegetables & protein. I alternate protein days (just lean meat, eggs, oily fish such as salmon/mackerel/tuna, other seafood, low fat dairy, low carb noodles etc) & days where I add a lot of vegetables & reduce the protein. Although some people have more vegetable days & not so many protein days & find it still works for them.

I wouldn't ever go into a diet with a weight loss goal in a set time period. Taller, heavier people do find it easier to lose more weight, especially at the beginning of a diet. And I imagine it helps if someone is super rich & can pay for a personal trainer & individual nutritional advice & personalised dietary supplements etc to help them with cravings or deficiencies caused by eating less.
