To think that if Kim Kardashian can, I should be able to do the same too and yet can't?

Apparently Kim Kardashian lost 16 pounds/7k in under a month. Reportedly she wore a sauna suit, ran, and cut down sugar and cards and ate vegetables and protein. I may not have the sauna suit but I can do the rest, right? And yes I don't think I could lose that much weight in a month (I'm a size ten, about 5'4). AIBU to think that while on paper I should be able to lose that much weight, it probably wouldn't happen? I usually watch my weight by calorie counting and that works for me - but not that quickly!

The whole thing is so stupid - no need for her to wear Marilyn's dress at all. Just wear a replica, the idea of a crash diet so she could cram her artificially giant bottom into an iconic historical costume (which I don't think she should have been allowed to do) is beyond ridiculous.
OP - I'm not sure if you are saying you actually want to lose 16lbs - but at 5'4" and a size ten, I doubt you need to lose any weight at all. By all means run if you want to get fit and cut down sugar and eat healthily for your well being, but KK is a crazy person - ignore anything she does, it's bound to be mad.

SummerHouse · 03/05/2022 16:17

Would you actually want to lose that much weight at a size 10 though? Sure it's possible but probably not a healthy plan.

Iamthewombat · 03/05/2022 16:20

Why would anyone choose to emulate that idiot?

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 03/05/2022 16:22

You want to wear dead woman's dress and/or have a heart attack?

thisplaceisweird · 03/05/2022 16:24

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/05/2022 16:09

Hang on, what is she wearing?

A replica of Marylin's dress? Surely they could have made it to her size.

She wore her actual dress, the same one she sang Happy Birthday Mr President in.

theprincessofliechtenstein · 03/05/2022 16:25

If you're a size ten already, you definitely don't need to lose 7k.

Pulling stunts like this is essentially KK's job. This is how she makes headlines and so money.

Neverhot · 03/05/2022 16:26

She said it was more like 4 weeks and you only have to look on the keto bootcamps on mumsnet to see it's entirely possible. I lost 10lb in the first few weeks with no exercise. Yes it will be water weight and of course not healthy but it was just to fit into the dress, she went and had pizza and doughnuts as soon as the event was over.

EscapeTheCastle · 03/05/2022 16:26

Marilyn fans know that dress is not a happy one.

I can't believe she was allowed to wear the real one. I'm quite impressed though. It looks great.

She only wore that one for a short time. She changed into a replica afterwards

ladycarlotta · 03/05/2022 16:31

this is KK's job so it is totally feasible for her to have devoted herself to losing over a stone in 3 weeks, probably with plenty of support and facilitation. Actors lose and gain weight for roles all the time, so I'm sure there are people who specialise in making these crash transformations happen.

It is also totally possible for most people to lose a stone in a month, say, at the start of a new diet - although a steadier, healthier rate of loss would be 1-2lb a week, ie 4-8lb a month. Pushing yourself to achieve a big loss would probably make you miserable, unhealthy and hungry though - and as a size 10 I doubt you have much to worry about anyway.

hamstersarse · 03/05/2022 16:33

Dropping a stone in weight is fine - it's not dangerous in any way

It's such a weird debate around health and obesity we have these days.

The mere fact that she was too big for a MM dress who we all happily describe as 'curvy' makes it even weirder to criticise. She wasn't trying to squeeze into a dress that was built for an anorexic - it was Marilyn Monroe!

veronicagoldberg · 03/05/2022 16:35

Women are worth more than obsessing about weight and food.

TinySaltLick · 03/05/2022 16:35

She probably also has a personal chef, a dietician and a personal trainer all on hand to take on all that admin

Also remember almost every pic of her will be airbrushed

16 pounds in a month is pretty much a calorie deficit of 2000 a day - almost inpossible without truly serious exercise, especially given the amount of fueling you'd need to do in order to actually do the exercise itself

In summary - it's total bullshit and even if it were true, it would be dangerous and extremely unhealthy

1000yellowdaisies · 03/05/2022 16:35

Im calling absolute BS on this. Her PR probably made it up as it adds to the story. People who lose weight that much weight that quickly tend to be bigger in the first place, which Kim isnt (despite all the talk of her bum and curves she is slim).

As an aside I think its so sad she was allowed to wear such an iconic dress because she degrades it. Shes about a million miles away from Marilyn Monroe

nearlyspringyay · 03/05/2022 16:35

I'm sure it is possible, you have a trainer / trainers / chefs / dieticians and a dress you need to fit into for a worldwide event.

Would I want to try, no.

Did she scrape all her make up off? That would have accounted for some of the loss!

daisyjgrey · 03/05/2022 16:37

What, you think that if she can have a horrendous relationship ship with food and think that losing an amount of weight in a worryingly short time, you should be able to as well?

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 03/05/2022 16:40

That rate of weight loss on average weight people is only achieved via insane crash diets and cosmetic procedures such as liposuction. It is generally not achievable, healthy or desirable for normal folk.

Janie576 · 03/05/2022 16:40

Why would you, logically, even want to lose that much weight in such a short time? All the evidence about crash dieting suggests that all the weight lost and more would be piled back on immediately, as soon as the restrictive eating stops. What would be the point in that? All that effort for a very temporary skinniness. Slow and steady wins the race.

TinySaltLick · 03/05/2022 16:41

Sorry but I don't think this is a reasonable thing to say - it's not totally possible for most people to lose a stone in a month. In fact for most people it would be almost impossible to do whilst living and semblance of a normal life.

Unless your statement is 'under lab conditions starving a human for a month would allow a stone of weight loss from metabolism alone'

I understand what you may mean here - but it's so unhelpful to peddle such phrases when people will take it literally and not in an academic sense

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 03/05/2022 16:42

She wore the actual dress?

I think that's unnecessary and very narcissistic. And it does degrade the dress. Sorry.

Favouritefruits · 03/05/2022 16:42

I’ve lost 31lb in 49 weeks and it’s been so bloody hard! No way has she lost 16lb in three weeks! You are a size 10 and 5”4 do you really need to loose weight?

I thought the same. I’d only ever seen the famous dress in black and white footage, so I was quite disappointed by it in real life. Looked a bit boring and meh.

ElephantLover · 03/05/2022 16:45

When I did low carbs (no sugar) I lost 1kg per week. Maybe a bit more in the first week - water etc. that made it around 5kg in 1 month. This was without exercise.
That doesn't mean K did it. But it's within the realm of 'possible' at a stretch.

Marilyn Monroe was pretty tiny by today’s standards. All the stuff about her being plus size is bs.
