It’s been a hell of a long day …

My 20 month old doesn’t nap easily now but is horrendous and doesn’t sleep at night if she doesn’t nap. Some days I have to drive her round in the car for 20 mins until she drops off if she refuses all other attempts.

MadameDragon · 02/05/2022 20:24

It’s a phase, he’ll go back to it. Both mine did this and then continued napping until 4.5.

qpmz · 02/05/2022 20:24

It does seem young so hopefully it's temporary as others have said. What happens when she's in the car or pram? Will she drop off then?

BobbinHood · 02/05/2022 20:26

I still miss naps and it’s been 2 years! Wish I had one of those that napped till reception, she gets up bloody early enough.

Only 16 months - really did not anticipate it for many months!

Oh wow you did well. My three all dropped naps by six months. Count yourself lucky it gives you more awake home with Turk which is fantastic 😃

User3568975431146 · 02/05/2022 20:27

** them 🙃

PregnantAgainOhMy · 02/05/2022 20:32

Mine's 2 and 2 months and hasnt napped in the day for about a month now. I still put her in her cot though at about 1. She usually happily just plays with her stuffed toys and I still get a bit of a break. Definitely gonna try and keep this 'quiet time' going for a bit longer!

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 02/05/2022 20:42

Both of mine dropped their naps at 18 months so I feel your pain. Enforced quiet time in their cots still worked for a bit though (until DS found out he could climb out of his cot).

My two boys dropped their naps at around 22 months but I was a SAHM and had them in bed by 7pm every night .I even discouraged them sleeping during the day and used to drive home in late afternoon evening from outings and open the windows and turn on the radio really loud to sing songsAt home quickly something to eat and then bed .I had the evenings to myself which was important as my husband travelled most of the time.

cptartapp · 02/05/2022 20:56

DS1 dropped his nap at twelve months.
I persevered with DS2 and he napped for two hours every day until he was three.

ChocolateHippo · 02/05/2022 20:58

At 16 months I would definitely treat it as temporary. And take him out and run him absolutely ragged in the morning so that he's exhausted by nap time. My 4yo will still have a nap if we've been swimming in the morning but never any other time.

DoctorZog · 02/05/2022 21:03

16 months is really young. Mine tried to drop her nap at 2 years. She refused to go to bed but would still nap at nursery. We went through a couple of hideous months of no naps, but I've recently started taking her out for a walk in the pushchair after lunch and she's out within around 10 mins, usually for an hour or so.

MadameDragon · 02/05/2022 21:32

Agree, I did pushchair naps for months, it was worth the effort for the vastly improved temper in the afternoon

addictedtotheflats · 02/05/2022 21:33

Yep saddest day of my life. The days are sooooo long.

boonducks · 02/05/2022 21:35

Mine dropped it at 14 months.
He's very partial to a nap now though. He's 24.

YANBU. Not only do you lose that glorious hour of peace in the early afternoon, but you gain 3 hours of misery between 4pm and 7pm while you frantically try to keep them awake.

Difficult times.

And you cannot go in the car after 3pm or they then have a danger nap and won't sleep until midnight 😑 ⚠️

Datsandcogs · 02/05/2022 22:09

I agree that you could kill the nap by changing routine. I would really try to maintain a quiet time, in bed with books and hope they drop off.

mycatisannoying · 02/05/2022 22:21

Gah, it's a bummer for sure. I always felt like I could actually breathe during that time!
