It’s been a hell of a long day …

I bet it’s not gone forever at 16 months. We’ve had spells of nap refusal and it’s always come back (now 2).

If it is gone forever - WineFlowersWineFlowers for you!

elbea · 02/05/2022 18:14

We had a temporary nap refusal around that age, it came back and twice as long!

doingitforthegirls · 02/05/2022 18:15

I have twins the same age that don't nap at the same time anyway so I'll be glad when the naps go so I don't have to police them other one from constantly trying to wake the other up 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Carpy88999 · 02/05/2022 18:17

16 months seems very early. My 2.5 year old naps some days when he asks for it but not all the time. On non nap days he's hard work after about 4pm but will conk out until 6:30am so every cloud and all that!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/05/2022 18:17

YANBU. Not only do you lose that glorious hour of peace in the early afternoon, but you gain 3 hours of misery between 4pm and 7pm while you frantically try to keep them awake.

Difficult times.

StrawberryandOrangeCreamBeasty · 02/05/2022 18:18

YANBU mine never dropped hers, she was forced to when she started school but still have 30 minutes or so sometimes during weekends and school holidays (She's 7) its blissful

Laiste · 02/05/2022 18:20

Oh YANBU.

My older 3 napped until they were nearly FIVE.

DD4 - 18 months 😫

I was gutted. I felt like writing to my local MP or something.

Porridgewithhoneyandnuts · 02/05/2022 18:24

It is very early and it’s also combined with not sleeping at a ‘normal’ time for bed - it was nearly 9 o clock when I got him down last night.

DD has done this periodically, now 2.5 i think she’s probably getting close to actually dropping it. I would power through, keep putting him down, it’ll probably come back. But yeah I dread it! I need that break in the day.

WhatsHoppening · 02/05/2022 18:51

@Porridgewithhoneyandnuts i too would not accept this. Very few 18 month year olds don’t need a nap- both of mine napped 2 hours a day until 3.5 and still slept at night. All children are different but day sleep under 2 is important. Enforced quiet time in their room/a relatively boring film could work?

CP191989 · 02/05/2022 18:55

@Porridgewithhoneyandnuts my DD did this at 18 months and I thought it would make night time easier but she didn’t!!
shes asleep by 8pm at the latest now it took a week or two but it was hard at first.

Porridgewithhoneyandnuts · 02/05/2022 18:55

He’d never watch a film. MN toddlers are a different breed to mine.

DockOTheBay · 02/05/2022 18:59

My first napped most days until 3, and probably would have continued if not for lockdown (she often fell asleep in the car)

My second has just dropped her nap aged 2 years 1 month. I am not ok with this 🤣

DockOTheBay · 02/05/2022 19:00

Oh and she's not starting preschool for another year so no time to myself at all 🤦‍♀️

She will sit and watch TV for an hour but then I feel guilty. On the plus side she goes to bed much much more easily now.

NamechangeFML · 02/05/2022 19:01

Might be temporary? Maybe next week will be better?
im still in mourning st the loss of the morning AND the afternoon one
waaaaah

declutteringmymind · 02/05/2022 19:01

Commiserations.

itstaxing · 02/05/2022 20:06

Keep putting them down op. Do not allow this to be permanent 😂

Porridgewithhoneyandnuts · 02/05/2022 20:09

Sadly I’ve never been able to just put him down for a nap!

britneyisfree · 02/05/2022 20:10

16 months is super young. Keep trying every day, probably just a sleep regression!

britneyisfree · 02/05/2022 20:11

Hahahaha mine is 26 months and I still can't just put her down!!

Strathyre · 02/05/2022 20:11

YANBU. I dread the day!

AnnaSW1 · 02/05/2022 20:12

It's definitely a shock at first!

Yerroblemom1923 · 02/05/2022 20:14

My dd napped right up till starting school and even then would come home and fall asleep on the floor. Don't give up, it may return. Keep with a daily routine after lunch of quiet time, keep bedroom dark and put them in their cot, read a couple of books. Honestly those 2 hours of peace kept me sane as meant I could tidy up, get food prepped for dinner, or just relax and watch my tv. I'm big on naps!

20viona · 02/05/2022 20:16

I think that's defo a phase my daughter is nearly 3 and still naps 5/7 days.
