To think gender should be seen as personality?

Over simplistic maybe?

No one at all should have their life made harder because of how they present, be it goth, Disney fan, tattooed, cottage core.

But keep spaces segregated by something that is absolutely definable, and welcome diversity of presentation with kindness and unbias.

AIBU to think this would be a simpler world?

I have no issues with people presenting/identifying however they like. I do have issues with sharing certain spaces with people with penises, however they present or identify. We used to call those people ‘men’ but now that those lines are blurred, it makes the whole area of ‘simply accepting other people’s choices’ a lot more difficult.

For at least 200 years, until the water were muddied fairly recently “gender” unambiguously referred to societal expectations of each sex. That is what the word means.

If we remember that, but drop the societal expectations of gender as much as possible, all that will remain is biological sex. Here’s hoping.

I think perhaps we need to dial back on the whole " bring your whole self to work" thing.

I mean you really wouldn't want me to bring my whole self to work.

Many of us have to either wear a uniform or wear clothes that we wouldn't usually wear to work or school. I'm.not a suit person but if I had to wear one to work I would. There are times and places for many aspects of our personality. Especially when it impacts others. And controlling speech /words is a right no one has and certainly not something that anyone should have . Not when that speech is merely reflecting reality.
