"Have a nice rest of your day"

I know it's not a common phrase but loads of people say this on the phone at work and it irritates me so much!

Nelliephant1 · 30/04/2022 15:27

Reach out 😡

Would OF instead of would have

Worst of all!!!

I/he/she/it/whatever was sat
I/he/she/it/whatever was stood

drives me absolutely up the wall 🤯🤯🤯

He was sitting

I sat

I was standing

I stood

Honestly where are the very basics of language nowadays, they seem to have disappeared.

breadwidow · 30/04/2022 15:28

Def agree about the 'we are pregnant', if you want to use we say 'we are having a baby'

I find several phrases used at my work (civil service, not sure how much they are used in other office settings) very irritating and i hate that I sometimes use them too. Eg '[INSERT PERSON'S NAME] is leading for [INSERT TEAM/ORG NAME] on this' (= [INSERT PERSONS NAME] has been lumbered with all the work on this (usually annoying) problem/pointless task and of course 'levelling up' (stupid meaningless guff created by a govt that doesn't give a shit about poor people)

sweatervest · 30/04/2022 14:40

if that makes sense
so i turned round and said and then she turned round and said

Hahaha! I was going to post that. So much turning round they must be dizzy. I've also heard people say "I Turn't roun' an said".

FredaFox · 30/04/2022 15:33

Ducks in a row really winds me up, I hate it!!

FredaFox · 30/04/2022 15:33

Mrswobblethewaitressiatired · 30/04/2022 15:33

To be honest, if I'm being honest etc. It just makes me want to ask them if the normally lie.

This!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 30/04/2022 15:35

I "literally" cannot stand people who use "literally" when they mean metaphorically.

Also people who, like, use the word like in every sentence. Because, you know, like?

SirChenjins · 30/04/2022 16:12

“I done…”

“I seen…”

I die a little inside every time I hear these.

SirChenjins · 30/04/2022 16:14

Oh - and pointless swearing. I love a good swear and it’s brilliant for emphasis, but the mindless “I was at the fucking supermarket” type swearing does my nut in.

worriedaboutmoney2022 · 30/04/2022 16:18

I have an "ex" friend I binned her off as she drove me mad
She does NOTHING is the laziest person you'll ever meet
Her now husband has his own business works really long hours to support both of them - she's capable of working just lazy

She used to say "yeah we're really busy"!! You mean your husband is really busy not you lazybones!!

Drove
Me insane

Dunno. 'Choice' can also be defined as a range of options...

Fizzyfish · 30/04/2022 16:55

So many...😬

This is my 'go to' (insert item)
'game changer'
'Super' anything
'On point
'All the feels'
'Touch base'

I'm sure I'll think of more but these are already making me cringe

MardyOldGoth · 30/04/2022 17:20

It finally seems to have died now but unfortunately it had a very long life: yummy mummy. 🤢

Honestly where are the very basics of language nowadays, they seem to have disappeared.

My husband sent me a message today saying that he ‘was sat next to’ the bassist from his favourite band in the hairdresser today.

I was tempted to reply ‘it’s interesting that you were sitting next to him’, just to make a point.

I hate counting sleeps for anyone of any age. Kids can count days just as easily as sleeps, or they’re too young to count anyway. It’s just twee and annoying. I’ve never said it to my children.

GooglyEyeballs · 30/04/2022 18:46

'im not being funny but...' - worst phrase ever.

'we're pregnant' doesn't bother me. I actually think it's good, especially when the male says it because it puts the responsibility on both of the parents and not just the female. Appreciate not everyone will see it that way though! I obviously understand that only a female can be pregnant and males won't have to suffer in the same way that females do, ie. carrying and delivering a baby, but I think it's a good reminder to the male that it's their responsibility too.

Izzy24 · 30/04/2022 20:03

Has anyone mentioned a picky tea yet?

foxlover47 · 30/04/2022 20:09

Cooking up a storm really makes me feel angry for some reason
Picky tea is absolutely something I've luckily only read on Mumsnet that is really irritating
It is what it is ... always seems such a cop
Out and low effort way of excusing bad behaviour

But they can - accurately - say ‘we are having a baby’.
