FrankLeeSpeaking · 30/04/2022 13:29

Misuse of myself/yourself. I suppose the speaker thinks they sound intelligent?
"Needs done/gone" makes me irrationally annoyed.

CatLadyDrinksGin · 30/04/2022 13:30

“Everything happens for a reason”. Really? Kids with cancer? Natural disasters?
“what’s for you won’t go by you”. So I can just sit on my arse and wait for the universe to bring me a job/partner/house etc?
All the grammatical mistakes, spelling error ones.

People who confuse the words 'choice' and 'options'
You can only have one choice but you may have several options so when someone says "You've got two choices" I want to correct them. No, I have one choice and two options..

Thank you for this @Sidisawetlettuce
I say this all the time and never realised until now. Be happy that you’ve stopped one person saying You’ve got two choices any more.

AnyCakeButBattenburg · 30/04/2022 13:35

You guys. (I'm a woman, not a "guy")
Can I get... (no, you MY HAVE but the person behind the bar/counter will GET it)
At the end of the day
...get my head round it
there/their/they're confusion with some (thick) people.

RecoveringShopaholic · 30/04/2022 13:36

When someone has said something really ordinary and logical in plain English and then queries "do you know what I mean/do you understand/do you know what I'm talking about?"
One of my friends will say things like "it was really busy in Tesco today, do you know what I mean?"
Yes I know what you mean, it isn't some abstract brain teaser communicated in morse code!
Makes my blood boil! 😬

That's not correct.
Options are limited, and based on a specific context.
Choices are limitless.

You're correct. The other poster isn't.

@PAFMO well it would appear I have two choices or options regarding this 🤔

ChazzaGirl · 30/04/2022 13:42

jeanne16 · 30/04/2022 13:46

Saying ‘you know’ constantly.

saggyhairyass · 30/04/2022 13:50

Saying, "like" all the time. "You know, she said, like, she was going shopping, and like, buying new shoes".

Can I Get...

Blud.

Bruv.

Get the hump.

Blackcountryexile · 30/04/2022 13:52

At this moment in time
Making memories
Reaching out .
I had to say something.....no you didn't. You could have been polite and kept quiet!

stopringingme · 30/04/2022 14:03

I didn't want to read and run - why do you have to put that in your message, it makes no difference to the OP either post or run along.

You are incorrect.
If someone asks me what I would like to drink, I have one choice but several options.

genie10 · 30/04/2022 14:26

The thing is is..
So at the start of every explanation.
The reason why. The reason is why and why is the reason.

Tone deaf
Meds
Anything twee about crying, “I appear to have something in my eye”
You do realise…
When talking about visiting places and people say they are ‘doing’ somewhere or have ‘done’ somewhere, I hate the way it sounds.

Yes!!! “We’ve done Italy”….can’t stand that. Especially when they probably were there for about a week, if that. Over here it’s even worse with people talking about going to places and saying “we want to hit Paris and London” or “hit all the major sights”

  • sounds like they want to bomb the place.

My sister went on a cruise that called at St. Petersburg for one day. She tells people she’s “done Russia”. No, you haven’t.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2022 14:32

He is 28 months no he's 2 just stop it !

Woodsie54 · 30/04/2022 14:34

Its amazing.............currently the most over used word in media Tv you name it its there..........annoying.

Outside a medical setting, this is bonkers. Yes, a doctor/nurse may need to know that your baby is 15 months old, for anyone else who asks, one is fine!

sweatervest · 30/04/2022 14:40

if that makes sense
so i turned round and said and then she turned round and said

howdyhey · 30/04/2022 14:57

'I've got your back' - I hate this with a passion. It makes me cringe.

'Just putting that out there!' - no, you are just being goady but not admitting it

'My bad' - why don't you just apologise like a grown up

mum2jakie · 30/04/2022 15:03

PlumPearPud · 30/04/2022 12:53

At the moment I’m gritting teeth at my teenagers’ use of:

‘Oh my Godddaaaah!’

’Can you NOT?’
e.g. ‘Why are you in my bedroom, Mum? Oh my Goddddddaaaah, can you just NOT?

‘You’re doing the most’
Seems to be a replacement for ‘I can’t deal’ (another annoying phrase!).
e.g. ‘Oh my Goddddaaaah, Mum, why did you put my hoodie in the wash when I need it today?! You’re doing the most right now, oh my Goddaaahhh’

There are others but right now those are testing my patience.

You must live in my house or have my kids on a timeshare basis or something! This is all I hear from my 11 year old lately!!! "Can you not?!!!"

ChickenRat · 30/04/2022 15:10

I agree with a lot of these 😄 I used to find "we are pregnant" infuriating until DH and I started trying for our first child. We had fertility tests, he turned out to be extremely fertile whereas I was infertile. Before we got the test results he repeatedly told me "if one of us has a fertility problem then we both do because we're in this together". We already knew at this point that the problem was mostly likely me for various reasons. At no point did he ever say "actually only one of us is infertile" so when our fertility treatment was finally successful I never felt the need to point out that actually only one of us was pregnant. I understand why "we are pregnant" annoys a lot of people but it was the right way for us to describe our experience given our history.

Agree with pp about "it is what it is" - infuriating is what it is
