I sat down on a public toilet seat today

Uhhhhh I don't know what happened. I didn't line the seat with paper and I didn't hover. Will I be ok? I'd it likely I'll catch something terrible? I just really needed the loo and just rushed in and then my bum was on the seat 😬

I always sit. Normally wipe first if it got splashed.

FindingMeno · 30/04/2022 07:52

@Kanaloa frankly, given the state of many public loos - yes.

UnicornPooPoo · 30/04/2022 07:56

It's only on MN that I've heard of people covering the loo seat with paper. Thanks to that, seems like I don't need to (and never have because I'm not bonkers) 🙄 🙄

Withdrawn at poster's request.

They used to be called Turkish loos, not sure if they still are - they’re supposed to be quite good for you I think. It’s different because you’re squatting right down, not hovering your bum above a pan that’s at knee height. Different positions.

CorsicaDreaming · 30/04/2022 05:43

It will normally stick if you sprinkle the seat liberally with wee first.

😆

Have your arse cheeks fallen off yet?

Not being funny but my mate Sharon got pregnant that way and she didn't even know she was pregnant until she went into labour and she gave birth in the lift in asda and the security guard had to deliver the baby and the bany ended up being twins and she gave one to the security guard as a thank you. Same asda that she sat on the toilet seat in as well.

No way, that happened to my mate but it was in Waitrose and it was quads 😆 They let her take home some celeriac remoulade and roasted beetroot and mint hummus to celebrate.

Why do you think a bush (where literal animals shit and piss) is any cleaner?

marvellousmaple · 30/04/2022 08:14

😂I'm calling this OP a wind-up. Some of the responses are very funny though , so thanks OP.

I am 100% sure the same people who see no problems with sitting on a public toilet seat also see no problem not showering daily and think washing chicken is repugnant. I am sure about this.

😁Surely there isn't anyone daft enough to wash chicken these days is there?

At school we swabbed the school loos and lots of other things around school to see what we could grow. By far the dirtiest items swabbed were coins. Toilets were clean in comparison. Yet no-one is bothered about touching coins (other than me, I always wash my hands after touching one).

I once sat in someone else's urine in the back of a taxi, luckily on the way home. I'm pleased to say I've survived and didn't get any sort of hideous disease Confused.

I agree with everyone who says life is too short to piss about with lining the seat with paper. No wonder there's always random bits of paper on the floor. If everyone used the toilet in the manner it's supposed to be used it would be a lot cleaner and tidier.

Wow, yet another MN germphobic thread. I'm 50, OP, and I have never in my life hovered over a toilet seat or covered one in tissue. I guess it's a miracle I'm still alive.

I’ve made it to 60, even more of a miracle. It would be helpful if the hoverers wiped up their own pee off toilet seats rather than leaving it to someone else.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 30/04/2022 09:58

Congratulations on saving some paper today!

Lining the seat with paper is wasteful, messy and unnecessary.

I hope you feel liberated! Here's to a future where you are free to sit on loo seats 🥂

Have sat/knelt/leaned in and been 'adorned' with most bodily fluids over the years, they always manage to reach the places the PPE doesn't...... 🤔

And I too, live to the the tale, arse cheeks (and other parts still intact) more's the pity as a reduction in that area would be welcomed!

newnamethanks · 30/04/2022 10:06

I went out today and trod on some paving stones on which a dog may have poohed in the past. Obviously I threw my shoes away and soaked my feet in neat bleach but have I missed something? Could there still be something from Outside attached to my feet?

DontKeepTheFaith · 30/04/2022 10:10

I have never lined the seat or hovered. Can’t quite believe the horror at the concept!

Skin is an excellent protective barrier.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 30/04/2022 10:12

Two weeks and your bum will drop off. Soz

NippyWoowoo · 30/04/2022 10:13

OP I identify with this fully, I never sit down 😂

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/04/2022 10:18

I have to use train toilets several times a day, most days. Always sit down.

Didn't realise I was so reckless!

Alwayshoovering · 30/04/2022 10:21

Is it really a thing to worry about public loos giving you disease or just a weird over exaggerated mumsnet thing like the chicken and massive salad?

emuloc · 30/04/2022 10:30

I would never sit down on a public toilet seat. I would have to be unable to stand before that would happen.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 30/04/2022 10:33

Hi everyone - we've no evidence that the OP is a troll. While we can't ever be sure about anyone's intentions, there's nothing to suggest a hairy-handed toilet hugger is at work here. As you were. 🍸

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 30/04/2022 10:40

I'm constantly amazed at MN toilet threads.
I've spent at least 25 years and hundreds of gigs/festivals etc. Happily sitting down on toilets, from Porta loos, compost loos and even long drop loos.
I'm still very much alive and well!

PenelopeLively · 30/04/2022 10:41

Not only does my friend sit on the seat she also eats pasties in the toilet

Hallyup89 · 30/04/2022 10:41

If sitting on a public loo was that bad, most people would have died by now.

Plus, you think germs can't get through a carefully placed circle of loo roll or the air?!
